Uh, as a 10' er i have no idea who this firerain tittyking huge avatar that i envy guy is, someone inform me please.
He's the seventh guy to join FacePunch. I'm not sure about the giant title or anything though.
Firerain was the troll to end all trolls. The troll king, the titty king.
For some reason (apparently it was Garry's alt) Garry told the mods not to ban him under any circumstances. So, where there was Firerain, there was chaos.
Eventually, although I never personally saw the thread, he was permabanned.
Then when FP changed servers, or whatever happened, and moved over to the new FP, along with the smartness being abolished, everyone's ban's were lifted. Firerain came back briefly for one thread, where he said something about never doing Garry's taxes again, and was banned. Forever.
I think that's the right story?
can anyone PM me anything about why compwhizzi was teased like that?
Asking around on the labs didnt help

Can I ask, have the police tracked down MUFC yet?
Details don't matter, just interested
They have suspects
They have suspects
That's a start, at least they've got something to work with.
Don't we have his IP?
He may have posted from a private proxy/something..
Ip isn't the best help.
They have his name and address, but he's one of many suspects and they need a warrent.
It's being dealt with.
There's no need to discuss it in this thread either, so leave the questions at that.
If something happens and all Facepunch needs to know, Hezzy will create a sticky.
If that doesn't happen, he won't.
cant you take a hint
Can't you look at his name, posts, and join date?
Here's my question about the forums:
Do you think that, in this era, bans are the best way to handle things like trolling/flaming/memes?
Here's why I ask..
For a while, I left FP and frequented Reddit instead (if you're not familiar with it, imagine a civilized 4chan full of smart grownups)
They have over 300,000 registered users. They have no moderation at all, and they don't ban people (except for serious abuse like spam). Shitposting seems pretty much non-existent at first sight.
On Reddit, you can upvote or downvote a post or comment. Highly upvoted posts are visible, while downvoted posts are hidden away.
Sometimes I feel like FP is behind the curve, because the vote system is a successful form of self-moderation that doesn't require a force of e-police.
What does the current system offer that makes it a better solution?

You don't understand how FP works evidently. If we were to implement a system that allows the community to self moderate itself...
I shudder at the thought.
It's better to deal with the issue than hide it
I don't believe it's behind the curve at all, I wish more forums were like it.
Posting is a privilege, not a right. If you're a good member, you won't get banned. If you see flaming, spamming or warez posts, report them, that's "downvoting".
Banning as warnings shows that the forum doesn't stand for shit posting and it shows you what you're going to miss when you are banned.
Bad posting here is fairly uncommon tbh, but the cases of it are rather high profile. It always gets stamped out though.

In a vote system, bad posts are voted down until the poster looks like a total asshole and his posts aren't visible. That, to me, is better than taking someone's privileges away. It's a passive resistance to douchebaggery, as opposed to the active resistance of banning someone.
So I'm not saying that a forum should put up with idiots, but the Digg/Reddit/Slashdot way of managing it is pretty cool, because the staff only need to focus on dealing with abusive users & don't need to spend so much time worrying about who's stupid and who's not (as a community scales up, you just don't have the resources for that either).
If there are any Slashdot readers here, you probably don't see a lot of shitty comments there, but if you look at the hidden ones, there's a ton of racist trolls who sit around getting no attention in every article. It's great.
Difference is the users on this site mean much more, this isn't like 4chan where everyone's anonymous (and if not anonymous then you still don't know them) and you can vote down depending on the content of the post alone, on FP there are many more factors. Bandwagons, "clubs", grudges, knowledge of the person you're "voting", and god knows what else.

Bad posting isn't common, it's just every fucktwat decides to post in the spam/stupid threads instead of reporting them and letting them fall off the front page.
Long post
Basically, what you're saying is instead of getting rid of known bad posters, like Doug for example, as soon as we can. We should let him keep posting until he gets buried, which could take hours or days.
Wait for users to down vote, or simple permaban?
There's always the possibility that users will upvote simply to annoy other users.
A permaban fixes the problem until they make their next account, and then that get's perma'd too.
What's the whole point of not being able to edit your posts in the news section ?

There was some exploit in the news forum's coding a while back.
Had to be disabled.
What was the exploit?
I don't know what the particular exploit was, but it did do some naughty things to people.
I think there was some HTML exploit which allowed account hi-jackings..
I'd gues you were able to edit frames in.

Something happened that caused all the posts in threads between a specific date to disappear, however the threads were still there. If you posted in the thread you would become the OP with the original OP's text. You could then edit the link in the OP to whatever you wanted to be in the iframe, and then link people to that thread and bad stuff would happen.
