Whay can't we have smartness?
Cause the smartness quit :clownballoon:
As I said before, Smartness should be less strict and more about pointing errors out such as spelling and basic grammar such as their/they're/there.
Basically, what you're saying is instead of getting rid of known bad posters, like Doug for example, as soon as we can. We should let him keep posting until he gets buried, which could take hours or days. Wait for users to down vote, or simple permaban? There's always the possibility that users will upvote simply to annoy other users. A permaban fixes the problem until they make their next account, and then that get's perma'd too.
It really depends on how the community is run, and how active it is. I see what you're saying - maybe dickheads can simply be removed, and that will solve everything. I don't think it really works that way, but it's subjective. On a vote-based system, I love seeing a dickhead post, because downvoting it is satisfying. In other words, the problem isn't a problem anymore, because I can do something about it. In a staff-moderated forum, you can't do anything except report tasteless posts. After they're reported, the moderators ban them, which = attention from a staff member. So, from an asshole's point of view:
-Write a dickhead post -Watch people get pissed off -LOL a mod banned me
OR
-Write a dickhead post -Joe Smith downvotes you and feels better -10 more Joe Smiths downvote you -You're buried, asshole! -No more attention for you!
I guess it's a matter of preference. All I'm saying is that it's not a matter of theory anymore. We can all name several enormous communities that wipe out trolls using self-moderation.
You still need to address the fact that many people would down vote posts because of personal vendettas, or groups running around down voting everyone. FP just doesn't have the right userbase to be given that kind of power. [editline]07:07PM[/editline] Plus, imagine people getting buried just because they have a differing opinion
You still need to address the fact that many people would down vote posts because of personal vendettas, or groups running around down voting everyone. FP just doesn't have the right userbase to be given that kind of power.
That only works if there are more people who are involved in the personal vendetta than who aren't. This has come up before. On Digg (before it sunk deeper into shittiness with v4), republicans were reportedly burying everything from opposing parties in a very organized manner. It was widely publicized, but didn't seem to be a major issue in practice. A group within a group is likely a minority, which isn't enough to cause huge problems. There are people who pointlessly downvote things, yes. The majority are sensible, and the majority is ultimately reflected most.
So is Terrenteller ever coming back?
Do ratings made by people without accounts mean anything? example, if 5 people who aren't logged in/don't have account's rate something funny, would it show up with 5x funny?
So is Terrenteller ever coming back?
Probably when his account is safe again, but who knows/cares.
Trying to ignore former moderators (de-modded to gold) gives a "you can't ignore moderators" error message. Is this a bug, or on purpose?
His account got compromised. Its been happening to alot of mods recently I don't really understand it.

http://www.facepunch.com/fp_events.php?type=capsfix Do we no longer fix caps, or is the event log broken? [editline]06:20PM[/editline] http://www.facepunch.com/fp_events.php?type=rename this too

What's the maximum resolution and file size for avatars for gold members?
Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 80 by 80 pixels or 102.4 KB (whichever is smaller).
Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 80 by 80 pixels or 102.4 KB (whichever is smaller).
So basically a GM can have a big avatar as long as it is under 102.4 kb?
So basically a GM can have a big avatar as long as it is under 102.4 kb?
No, whichever is smaller.

Why was the "Minecraft is the shittiest game ever" thread reopened? It's a fucking flamewar in there, nothing positive is coming out of that thread.
I'm stuck with this title forever, aren't I? :v:
Yes. [editline]09:15PM[/editline] Also could you please tell us the story behind it?
I'd like to know the story behind it as well.
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
