Recon deserves some kind of medal
Most helpful member of (actually just the past week or so but hopefully) the year
Only if I get in the course
He's still written more on armies than anyone else could be bothered to and would deserve to be commended even if they give your essay an F (which I'm sure they won't, it's just an example)
Its a course essay, I dont think they give me grades for it :v:
[QUOTE=Yuskolov123;27853387]Slice you should be a fucking English Teacher. You seem to do better than most of the teachers I have ever had.[/QUOTE]
It's funny, I'm Swedish, yet I'm correcting my English teacher instead of him correcting me.

[quote]The game in which I have chosen to do the essay is the enormously popular Half Life 1, produced and developed by valve software, it was one of the best games of the time due to the incorporation of what was thought to be the best graphics of the time, and one of the games which had the only good plot around this time period. Originally released for the PC Windows in 1998 and for the Play Station 2 in 2001. It has 2 different variants, the normal engine, which uses a pre-set death pose ragdoll system, no advanced lighting and lower definition models. The other is the game with the GoldSrc engine, A heavily modified version of the engine used for Quake II engine known as ‘Quake World’, This allows the Inversed Kinematics ragdoll system which identifies a force given to a point on an object or ragdoll, and applies them. The Lighting system is more advances by the use of shaders. It also uses a slightly higher definition, which is mostly to do with the lighting system that will cast shadows and bring out things such as wrinkles.
The plot revolves around the fictional location of Black Mesa Research Facility in New Mexico, After the main character, Gordon Freeman accidentally lets loose an alien invasion after a research experiment gone horribly wrong, allowing a teleportation between the aliens home and the black mesa facility. Freeman then has to fight his way through the facility to a Teleportation chamber, where he is teleported to the alien’s place of origin in the border world of Xen. He then has to stop Xens master, the Nihilanth. All the way the mysterious G-Man intervenes and attempts to either stop or accelerate his progress. The G-man’s identity, Alignment and race are never revealed, though the Nihilianth does give multiple hints about him. By the end of the game, you are forced to work for the g-man.
The game play is using a First Person perspective on the game, this it to add mystery to Gordon Freeman, whose appearance in never revealed until its expansion, Half Life: Opposing force, briefly. And then fully in Half Life: Blue Shift, though his voice is never revealed to add to the mystery.
The models uses only has 6 move points, the torso, head, legs and arms, Though rarely has an extra 4 for the elbows and knees. The player model is actually invisible, only the arms and legs are visible so the player cannot see Gordon.
The levels were planned out mostly as a puzzle, having the player use a combination of fighting and puzzle solving skills in order to overcome a problem. For example, the players must turn on 2 different switches to supply a cannon with oxygen and water in order to destroy a creature obstructing the way out. There are up to 3 different factions in the game, the HECU, Xen forces and the Black mesa personnel. The HECU are based off of the American army, Where the Xen forces are very similar, a dark olive green with 3 arm appendages and multiple eyes, the black mesa forces are based on scientists or security.
The reason I like this game is due to the fact that it was one of the revolutionary games, which allowed other games to start to use more advanced mechanics such as advanced ragdoll and lighting systems.

571 words
Some reason word doesn't recognize "A cannon" as grammatically correct
Add spaces between the 3 paragraphs.
Ninjad :)
Its actually 4, I forgot to paragraph the the last one on the... last one
Ah, didn't notice that one, sneaky bastard.
[editline]4th February 2011[/editline]
You said you where limited to 500 words by the way?
Not a limit, Just a 500 word essay
Oh, I thought the limit was 500 words, in that case you can add so much more and explain a lot more about the game structure and more closely describe everything, I was correcting after the fact you had little space to put things into..
I think they'd probably notice Ive gone a little over the limit if I have about 4 pages
Well, though, you now have a nice framework to write around, you can add onto the parts you consider important or want the reader to pay extra attention too, try to "show-off" that you have researched the area well by adding for example, examples (yes I noticed that) from the game of different situations or things like that, don't go overboard with it though.
[editline]4th February 2011[/editline]
Also, how the heck did you pull all that out into 4 pages? :v:
..Its one page
Use "The game I have chosen to discuss is.... "
for some reason saying talk about in this essay is not as good marking wise
What's happening?
What do you mean "what's happening?" ?

Media essay – Game
The game in which I have chosen to discuss in this essay is the enormously popular Half Life 1, produced and developed by valve software, it was one of the best games of the time due to the incorporation of what was thought to be the best graphics of the time, and one of the games which had the only good plot around this time period. Originally released for the PC Windows in 1998 and for the Play Station 2 in 2001. It has 2 different variants, the normal engine, which uses a pre-set death pose ragdoll system, using a ragdoll pose which does not use physics, but instead a death pose that a “Ragdoll” will automatically move into. No advanced lighting and lower definition models. The other is the game with the GoldSrc engine, A heavily modified version of the engine used for Quake II engine known as ‘Quake World’, This allows the Inversed Kinematics ragdoll system which identifies a force given to a point on an object or ragdoll and applies them. The Lighting system is more advances by the use of high flexibility shaders.
The game play is using a First Person perspective on the game, this it to add mystery to Gordon Freeman, whose appearance in never revealed until its expansion, Half Life: Opposing force, briefly. And then fully in Half Life: Blue Shift, though his voice is never revealed to add to the mystery. The game also uses a “developer” mode in order to allow the player to alter and modify some aspects of the game, such as the amount of damage dealt to a unit; this allows freedom of will to the player.
The models use only has 6 joints, the torso, head, legs and arms, though rarely has an extra 4 for the elbows and knees. The player model is actually invisible, only the arms and legs are visible so the player cannot see Gordon, the arms change according to which weapon the player is using.
The levels were planned out mostly as a puzzle, having the player use a combination of fighting and puzzle solving skills in order to overcome a problem. For example, the players must turn on 2 different switches to supply a cannon with oxygen and water in order to destroy a creature obstructing the way out. revolutionary games of it's time pioneering the style fps that we still see today.
No because quake did that
At the beginning, when it says "....Valve Software, it's...." I think a full stop should go where the comma is.
Oh its a worm coming out of an apple
That looks like a penis
I think the joke is the apple is a ball sack, and the worm is a penis.
[editline]4th February 2011[/editline]
