Hamatchi can be slow and generally laggy so to say. If you can't get your ports open and working, it's sometimes better to just not host a server, Trifon's for example, is laggy like hell, so in short, look up on forwarding ports and do that then host the server in the regular fashion without any third party programs like Hamatchi. [editline]6th December 2010[/editline] Make sure you open/forward the right port for Minecraft though.

Me neither
Ok, so using hamatchi would the server be permanent anyway? My server has only lagged when I started it up. Is there a site or anything that will allow me to host there?
Hamachi wont keep it permanent nor can you do it through a site i belive you need to keep a dedicated Sever.. Also whats happend with Elfs?
Say, you were speaking to someone who was fairly new to servers (:v:) How would you explain going about creating a dedicated server? (Will be back in 30 minutes goodbye)
Uh, isn't the regular server software a dedicated server?
I dont think it is
I'm not sure I have not yet given out the IP let alone ran trials to find out anything else about it. Right now I am making sure everything is running ok.
I dont think it is
There's two kinds of server running ways that I'm aware of: 1: Listen - Hosted directly off the game, if the host leaves the server, the server is closed. 2: Dedicated - Hosted with a program/software on the side of the game in question and runs as long as the software is keeping the server running.
If you can find out how Elf hosted thats where the gold is
I know how Elf hosted it. He simply forwarded the port Minecraft uses, downloaded the server software and set it all up. [editline]6th December 2010[/editline] Easy as that, if you manage to do the forwarding port part that is.
What even happend to his sever
First he had some internet problems or something, then he just gave up I think. In other words, I have no bloody clue.
Agh well Trifons is nearly complete once im next on i can fix my home and stuff
Well, on Trif's server I was lagging like bloody hell. Jesus I'm on a posting spree tonight. :v:
Someone please explain to me (in fairly simple terms) how I can forward the port minecraft things. Also for it to be dedicated would MY internet connection have to online permanently or can I host it from a website or something along those lines? Is elf permanently banned or can I ask him about it?
http://portforward.com/ Dunno if they got guides for Minecraft though. As for Elf, haven't seen him on steam for ages, then again, I haven't been on steam much lately.
http://www.brohoster.com/ you can always pay for a sever
Brohoster does have some good prices, as well good support from what I've heard and a plus is that the creator is from Facepunch.
I cannot see MC as an option
Port forwarding is easy, there's a guide somewhere that I used for minecraft that was piss easy, but I can't find it :v: It was to do with your router set up (aka typing your Ip adress in the adress bar and configuring the settings).
http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Tutorials/Setting_up_a_server Might help.
http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/BT/BTHomeHub2/Minecraft_Server.htm This should do, there are ones for different routers too.
You guys are the best :3: Man I love this sub-forum [editline]6th December 2010[/editline] If I forward these ports will the server run without my router being on or is that needed?
I didn't do shit but thanks :3:
The router obviously needs to be on. [editline]6th December 2010[/editline] Otherwise you wouldn't have any internet at all (If you don't have other means of connecting to the internet that is).
Why do you ever need to turn off your router?
Restart it? Lightning storms? Solar flares?
Not to mention meteor strikes and alien invasions.
