How violent, like safe enough to goad him into doing something violent that the police could use as an excuse to act on or beats people half to death violent?
hood violent from what i heard, i mean, shit if i could i'd raid his house with a paintball gun with pepper balls or something. But even at that, i could get charged if i end up empty handed, plus its vigitalism

Just call his parents.
Search for fingerprints?
Does this kid go to the same college? If so take it up with an administrator.
Ask one of your friends to scout for you. Confirm the fact that he has a xbox lying somwhere in his home. May be tell some identification marks to lend some more credibility that it's the same xbox.
Tell police that such sort of crime if go unnoticed will only compound to something more serious later. And police will be responsible for that shit. You got to prod them on their own account. They won't do anything much for low value stuff. Let your parents say this to them.
How did he get into your house when you weren't there in the first place?

You need to figure this out.
Get a shitty PC filled to the brim with malware and keyloggers. Have him steal it. Maybe he'll use it at home and connect to his internet.
Don't think a petty, well-known thief would go to the same place twice.
Do you have any of his personal info like his number or home? If you're positive it was him you could always confront him and use scary words like reciting his full name and talking about legal action
or just deck him in the face, walk into his house and take it back
Don't think a petty, well-known thief would go to the same place twice.
Conveniently leave it somewhere. Some place the guy will go and be able to steal it.
Better yet, instead of being full of malware, fill it with explosives.

Domestic terrorism is the best and more practical form of revenge!
Kidnap him, bring him to your hidden villain cave and then explain your unnecessarily long plan to kill him.
He'll escape while you're talking and he'll move to a different country.
Spit roast his turtle I'm sure he has one everyone has one

And the ticks. All check.
Can cops really just say that they don't feel like doing that? That would piss me the fuck off.

pretty much if they think its a waste of manpower, also asking around for his address is prob a good way to get stabbed or beat up

I was in New Zealand when my USB 3 hdd was stolen from ground floor mailbox. Got the captured cctv footage on the camera. Lodged a complaint with police along with the evidence. They zeroed in that the lady was a resident and the guy who stole the hdd was some acquaintance.
Later one of the cop closed the case citing that they did a formal inquiry and lady told them she didn't know that guy.
Chances of getting stuff back unless of course it's a full house raid are pretty slim coz nobody gives a shit. It was nice to see that the case went that far. Here in India I would have had to pay bribe to even get my complaint registered.
Buy a ps4.
Oh snap bring on the h8.
Can't you wait until someone turns it on? I mean, won't that give you information about it's location?
Mac's do, people have found their macs back that way.
