prequel eh? time to learn some more about aliens? I hope so
Are you kidding me, Alien was a great film, well crafted cinema and all that good stuff, but Aliens is even better. "Dumb" action? The final scene to Aliens is Ripley having a fist fight in a robot suit with a giant uber alien that cuts people in half with it's four foot long bladed tail.
Alien and Alien Resurrection were the best IMO
Alien and Alien Resurrection were the best IMO
That's like saying "My two favorite substances are white gold and puss."

[editline]09:14PM[/editline]
In the post you quoted I explained exactly why that was not the case and how you'd have to be an inattentive moron in order to think that was the case. But apparantly you didn't bother reading that.
wooow shut up.

The story was pretty god damn good too

I'm saying it's also a dumb action movie.
People liking dumb action more than well crafted cinema? No!
I think it's more because Aliens' action is timeless. It never gets old. It will always be awesome. Whereas Alien seems to suffer from the horror equivalent of http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SeinfeldIsUnfunny And I'd venture the idea that the epic effects of Aliens over the beginning struggles of those in Alien contribute a bit too.

How is Alien the horror equivalent of Seinfeld by any stretch of the imagination? Good horror is timeless, we still have the same fears today as we did when it was made, it's still incredibly well made.
i think all hes saying is that aliens formula has been emulated 20000 times which, yeah, is a bad argument, because... a) so has aliens (cough any piece of media with space marines cough) b) alien is still great and stands apart

Except it was the progenitor. So I don't hold it against the film which is obviously great despite this flaw.
cant really call it a flaw i mean its a testament to how good it is that everyone else tried to do it
From a movie experience point of view triteness, even retroactive triteness is bad.
Aliens is on right now on AMC if anyone has that channel.
From a movie experience point of view triteness, even retroactive triteness is bad.
i guess so. but i say that when you watch a movie you should try your best to forget everything you know about any other movie youve seen, especially when delving into the classics like you cant watch jaws saying "ok i know that theres gonna be 3 shitty sequels to this so i dont know if itll be good or not"

Alien = Horror Aliens = Action Horror Alien 3 = Suspense Alien 4 = _____________
Alien = Horror Aliens = Action Horror Alien 3 = Suspense Alien 4 = _____________
If Aliens was a horror movie then Predator was a masterwork of writing and character.
Yeah I love the film, but I can't say it's because of any horro potential. (Although the scene with the facehugger in that room is tense) It's just straight down the most stupidly awesome action film ever.

What about alien vs. predator?
What about alien vs. predator?
Haven't seen the films. Awesome game though.
Bishop just got tore in half. I vividly remember that from my childhood.
aliens is spookily suspenseful i think, especially at the beginning when theyre walking through the complex and then the motion sensor goes nuts youre like hoooly shit somethings gonna go down
That's kind of the point of horror. If I want an action movie I'll watch Starship Troopers.
Fuck off. Alien is a masterpiece, but so is Aliens. Don't you dare lump it into the shitty action category with shit like Starship troopers. It's Cameron's talent as a creative artist that made Aliens more than just an action "flick". [editline]04:59PM[/editline]
Haven't seen the films. Awesome game though.
Don't. The AVP films are not only abominations of both series, they are just terribly shit films.
People liking dumb action more than well crafted cinema? No!
Jesus christ, stop being overly pretentious. You can create a film with substance and quality without it having to be a fucking arthouse picture that waxes poetic. Aliens is one of those films.
I won't lie, the AVP films are interesting films, they aren't good Alien or Predator movies, but they aren't terribly shit films like everyone says, they're entertaining, and give some interesting backstory...
I won't lie, the AVP films are interesting films, they aren't good Alien or Predator movies, but they aren't terribly shit films like everyone says, they're entertaining, and give some interesting backstory...
No, they really are shit. I can't stress how shit they are. 1 was bad enough, 2 was just ridiculous and felt like some lame Freddie vs Jason. As for backstory, what backstory? They tried to come up with a lame way to segue the Aliens with the Predators and ended up fucking any good canon potential for both films. Unless respective filmmakers choose to ignore both AVP films, it severely fucks with what they can do for the next films in the series (Ridley scott is wanting to make a Alien prequel, and Robert Rodriguez is tapped to make a Predator film).
I thought the backstory was interesting, i dunno. But I guess it was put together shittily, but it was still semi-enjoyable.
I thought the backstory was interesting, i dunno. But I guess it was put together shittily, but it was still semi-enjoyable.
The only part of AVP1 that I enjoyed was the first battle with the Aliens and Predators. When that big tank ass predator grabs the Alien by the tail and smashes it into the concrete pillar, I was like "OHH SHIT SON". That was it. The rest of the movie had me turning emo.
