Fix Up! Look Sharp v9: Winged shoes don't make you look fly
people here used to say, in the earlier threads, that they gave tips for whoever came asking for them but would often say to the people who had no idea about what's good and what's not to follow their tips but that eventually they'd find their own style. that kinda died out but i think the general idea should still be the same
not to mention, a lot of posts get equal amounts of agrees and disagrees. it might just look like everyone dresses the same way because most of those people are just more vocal about it (rusty)
it's a good thread for helping people who dress absolutely terrible to get at least dressing basic and acceptably
but if you're looking to stand out, or have people go 'wow that guy has a cool individual style' or 'he dresses really sharp!' then yeah you'll rarely find it here

For newcomers to dressing decently in general, this thread was intended to get you on your feet.
For regulars and those familiar with how to dress themselves decently, it was to be a place to share and talk about ones expanding style, and how to help others find their own. I will agree it has become a tad narrowed and judgmental, but for the most part we do it because we are trying to help.
you're in the wrong place if you're looking for people here interested in dressing different m8
it's about the most bland fashion thread I've ever seen
its every day fashion for normal dudes who arent lookin to make a statement but are lookin to look presentable and nice
which if you ask me, is the best and most applicable fashion there is.

you can look really sharp without standing out. i personally am not into standing out unless it is just because you are really well dressed and not because you are wearing out-there clothes
which i am not into
and its not like my opinion is what binds everyone else here. its just that there are others who agree and others who dont. everyone has an opinion and everyones free to express it. if you like the more out there clothes that get posted, go for it, go get some. if u dont and prefer stuff a little more basic but stylish, go for that.
you guys who come in saying 'WOW THIS THREAD SO BORING' are stupid, because a) nobodys forcing you to be here, b) nobodys forcing you to take any advice, c) theres plenty of stuff i'd consider fashion victim eyesores like lemonators stuff just for you and d) nobody cares
AND plus not everyone has a huge disposable income. I do like expensive stuff, but I try not to buy too many expensive things. every now and again i'll get an expensive item but regularly i'll buy cheaper but still nice looking things. I have a couple of jackets that were 3-400, some shoes that were 350, but unless you have the disposable income to afford it, it's not worth everything you own being so expensive.
and i get the feeling lemonator is about 17 and lives with his parents. not that i don't, but the younger you are the less actual life things you need to spend on.
but then again I kind of like goth ninja, just bought a HBA x Been Trill shirt and wear Supreme so my opinion is probably considered invalid
[editline]31st August 2013[/editline]
my merge ugh
i personally hate HBA, but supreme has some good pieces time to time
if by goth ninja you enjoy dressing black on black, then yea I do that time to time too, usually with another loud color piece to balance it out though
Of course there will be some natural variance between regulars, and we come into conflict about it at times, but because we each have our own areas of expertise, it helps newcomers know where to look if they are interested in a certain style.
For example. I'd trust Angoose and Alec if I was looking for modern pieces, as they truly seem to know their stuff.
Same with Rusty and Lord for more traditional casual choices, Lizurd and Ram for slightly more formal, and Mako for general advice.

I think I pointed that out too, that it's a good thread for people looking to be presentable if they otherwise dress terribly. But for those looking for further fashion insight then that, you generally won't find it here. Which is cool cause everyone has their take on fashion, it's subjective of course, e.g how you see it being the most applicable and best way I see as boring
my only gripe with this thread is everybody kind of moves towards the same stuff to wear because anything else is just kind of given a negative outlook. there's absolutely no diversity in what people post here which is what I mean by boring
and my response to calling this thread 'boring' was to the dude asking if anyone was interested in fashion at a higher level, which most people here seem not to be, which is why I told him this thread would be bland and boring if you're interested in high fashion or somethin
[editline]31st August 2013[/editline]
I'm a big supporter of dressing in 'basics' by the way, I'm just of the opinion that there are times where you need a 'loud' piece too, to give your fit more character and uniqueness
but that's just my take on dressing, s'all up to you
most people here don't seem to like high fashion because of the price tags
most people here don't seem to like high fashion because of the price tags
honesty I don't care much for high fashion either because of price tags, I was just simply referring to that one poster as high fashion tends to be what people think of 'creativity' and shit
most people here don't seem to like high fashion because of the price tags
i just think some things are worth their high price tag if they are quality and look great
but typically what lemonator posts does not even slightly live up to its price tag imo. it looks the same as any basic h&m stuff that i still wouldnt buy (because it doesnt look nice)
i just think some things are worth their high price tag if they are quality and look great

spending money on stuff to appear rich is so trashy, I avoid any branding at all cost unless it actually looks good.
I guess you're the kind of person who would only buy a givenchy piece if it had a logo
i'd dress a lot more trendily if i didn't make shit money
Not to echo the losers on tumblr or anything but it's pretty obvious that lemonator is a kid, and a kid who is privileged as fuck. As Lord and Rusty said already, most people live on a budget. If you're a student counting coins and buying your own groceries and so on, chances are you can't dress even close to how you would like to. I think it's only natural that when people post things with prices tags of hundreds of dollars, others will pick as many holes in the item as occur to them or just call bs on the price unless it's clear that it really is worth it. Since it's a given in fashion that after a point you're just paying for the label, it's rarely worth it. So in the end I don't think people are narrow-minded here, mostly just practical

Don't forget yoself in the more formal category

i have literally never once said anything about brand, where are you pulling that?
i avoid logos normally, i hate when things have the brand written on them, sans the little levis tag, which i dont mind.
spending money on stuff to appear rich is so trashy
This is so utterly in contrast to things you've said before, it's laughable
you're laughable
in any pictures of me you've seen has there any been any heavy branding on my clothes?

he is a very confused little boy
lemonator says that he doesn't buy the shite he buys simply to show off that he has money, yet every time he posts something he makes a massive point out of how much it costs lol
Thinking about getting this, what do you's think?

Hahaha I thought it was a cool looking parka till you mentioned that. Now that you've said that I won't be able to get the image of it out of my head every time I look at it.
yeh long ass coats like that are not a good idea
i laugh to myself whenever i see someone in a duster jacket or something that long. especially if its a big leather duster. one time when i worked at a cinema a couple came to the movies both wearing long leather duster jackets and the second i was out of sight me and all the other stuff were laughing, they looked so ridiculous

this specifically looks too much like a wild west costume
and im down with certain cowboy things. but thats too much
The other one I was looking at was this one. Twice as expensive though and it's just because it's fred perry

Ah fuck it, I don't really even need a jacket right now it's not winter. Was just browsing and got tempted, might just wait it out.
i just think you should forget a long jacket in general. shorter jackets look so much better
~imo~
long coats can work pretty well imo but if you don't know what you're doing it's easy to fuck up and turn into a public masturbation impersonator
[editline]31st August 2013[/editline]
that fred perry one looks p. good but it's hard to tell without it being modelled

That's exactly what I thought, I've tried a few different sites for the same jacket in the hope of finding it being modelled on one but haven't had any luck.
this among most lookbooks is what i would consider being a fashion victim
Hey, don't blame the poor model for having to dress in such a silly outfit. He's the victim here.
to me, THAT stuff is boring. it's an ill fitting shirt with a cat that looks like any random person could have printed it in their garage, and all the mismatching clothes. i see stuff like that all the time, and it just screams no sense of style. just slapdash random shit in the name of being out there and fashionable. that is what is boring to me. slap a bunch of thrift store stuff together and call it art basically.
[editline]1st September 2013[/editline]
the irony being its probably not thrift store and all super expensive for literally no reason

That is by far the most annoying current fashion trend for me this summer, cat faced shirts. You see a ton of full printed cat shirts in women clothing right now and I've actually seen some guys wearing similar shirts as well. It just looks silly. There are two guys in my department that wear clothes like model pictured, and 9 days out of 10 they just look buried in accessories and clashing clothing. Major respect for their confidence levels though, it'd take a lot to dress like that here in the Midwest and they are both cool guys.
Also, anyone thrift shop regularly here?
