except it's not artistic but rather incredibly ugly and hilariously bad
I've been noticing a trend lately where the roman numeral IV is expressed instead as IIII on watch faces, anyone know why?
watches have always done that

(I learned that from a mindtrap card)

well, it sucks and fuck you for liking it
Fashion shows aren't showing clothes that are meant to be worn. It's just using clothing as a canvas. You could say the same for video games like Dear Esther - it's not meant to be "played," it's just using the medium of a video game as a canvas for art. This goes for anything. Calligraphy is obviously not an efficient method of writing, but it uses text as a canvas for artistic expression. What's the point of graffiti? It's vandalism. Good graffiti (Banksy, etc) uses the existing environment of a city for artistic expression. Clothing's a bit harder to understand from that perspective. Just understand that nobody wears those - they're impractical and practicality is important for everyday wear.
I kinda like some "high fashion" stuff and things people wear on the streets on menswear and street style blogs. But only take from it what you think will look good on you, not just because it looks cool on them, because some of them just wears dumb things sometimes. Observe, see what works and what doesn't for you, apply to your own style, and then look at more stuff.
I really like what this says.
The first, most crucial step towards improving your looks is to pay attention. Not just to yourself or your friends, but to other people as well. To movies, to magazines, it doesn't really matter. Just start noticing how people look and what clothes do for them. Absorb as much knowledge as you possibly can and build a visual reference book in your head (or on your computer if you're that sort of person). Notice the shapes, lines, colors, proportions of what you see. Don't worry if you don't have the vocabulary and can't explain what you're looking at or even why you like it; that's secondary to the main goal of just paying attention to the details.
Now that you've paid attention, you can move into the next step: be honest. Firstly, about yourself: are you tall? Do you have broad hips? Do you have a short torso? Is your frame lean? Are your shoulders defined? Then make the same honest appraisal of other people you see. Is he stocky? Are her legs really long? Does he have really built arms? Does she have a less curvy frame?
If you've thoroughly paid attention and then been honest, then you'll start to notice patterns. Tall people tend to wear a lot of "fashion" things (drop crotch pants or what have you) more easily. Some types of sleeves (cap sleeves, raglan sleeves) don't flatter people with rounder shoulders. A defined waist tends to make everyone look thinner. Fine woven wool garments tend to make outfits more dressy. And then you'll easily see how some of these patterns can apply to your body.
Now here's why I think people should think of this is in the abstract—this categorical analysis of dressing avoids any mention of rules, anything about spending money, anything about how "X" ought to fit in such a "Y" way because "Z" is totally hipster/brah/ prep/ etc. I'm not saying you will necessarily have to read fashion magazines all the time or that you need to open up a card at Barneys; that's not the point. The goal isn't to conform to someone else's sense of style, but to develop your own. Whether you had never tried dressing yourself before or if you're some super brand conscious person, you are ultimately rewarded for all this work with complete autonomy and self—control over fashion. You stop wearing what you think you ought to wear and you begin wearing what you know you should be wearing.
why does so much band clothing look like crap
i guess it's really the hit-and-miss nature of graphic tees, but it seems that so many bands don't even try to make their shirts look good

so dumb
What the hell has FULS devolved into? notlabbet, what are you even doing?
so dumb
don't blame him, something as hard to grasp as art or haute couture is so much easier to hate than to explore.
don't blame him, something as hard to grasp as art or haute couture is so much easier to hate than to explore.
That's like saying it's easier to just hate blueberries and refuse to believe anyone else could like them because you haven't given them a try or don't like them yourself. It's plain old ignorance.
Because you don't understand it does not mean it's reasonable to hate it.

i don't mean to imply it's reasonable really. Just that people tend to hate things they don't understand, it is easier to just claim blueberries are terrible.
just calling someone dumb will not help anyone really.

i.e barge relentlessly onwards

i guess it's really the hit-and-miss nature of graphic tees, but it seems that so many bands don't even try to make their shirts look good
it's because "band shirts" is pretty much a style of graphic tees now, so, most of the time, they're not trying to make band shirts that look generally good, instead they make tees that look good in the "band shirt" parameters
grasp
You rang?
Its also much easier to hate than it is to even have a cursory interest in, as that requires thought or consideration. In fact, the fact that at face value, most show pieces are ugly/not appropriate for street wear is a statement unto itself.
I've been busy. A break is coming up though, and I will be able to go thrifting for the first time in a while. Should be fun.
(primarily looking for ties this time around.)

Yeah fashion blogs like that have their fair share of ridiculous outfits and accessories but I still look at them all the time for inspiration. As long as you know what looks good on you, and what is within the realm of "acceptable", you can get some great ideas.

i bring out the worst in people, i guess.
also, seeing people getting so mad and so dramatic just because i have different tastes in clothing is sort of amusing???
i post a pair of shoes that are pretty basic, and people use words like "vile, putrid, horrible, disgusting" and its it is very funny on their part.

This is pretty much what I'm talking about. Should you be copying these outfits verbatim? No. But it's great to look at stuff like this and let the inspiration soak into your mind.
