good god FULS is now close to SH in terms of shit slinging
Well yeah, R.I.P. fashion advice. It keeps turning into a warzone and it's getting more frequent too. Most of the people here think their style is the only acceptable one and are willing to fight to death for that. I mean, I argue a LOT, but the arguing in this thread is usually over the top. (even for my standards)
me not dressing exclusively for the sake of other people somehow means i don't respect myself ??
dont remember saying that so
[t]http://images.asos-media.com/inv/media/9/4/1/6/3026149/tan/image1xxl.jpg[/t] bought these, not sure if I'm going to like them or hate them - if they're shit it's free returns so screw it
[t]http://images.asos-media.com/inv/media/9/4/1/6/3026149/tan/image1xxl.jpg[/t] bought these, not sure if I'm going to like them or hate them - if they're shit it's free returns so screw it
how do you like them? the white soles are major turn off for me
i don't really get the thing behind dressing/shaving for somebody else like am I the only one who takes care of his appearance so that he can look into a mirror and feel good about himself??
Uh, well there would be no fashion or need for any variation of clothing whatsoever if there weren't other people around. having a pleasing appearance makes you feel good because it gives you peace of mind about the impression that others get from you. Looking good only matters because other human beings SEE you
how do you like them? the white soles are major turn off for me
i think the sole is why i like them, makes them look slightly more casual than if they had a heel i'll take some pics when they get here, they might end up looking awful but it was the only thing that really caught my eye and for some reason i felt like i had to buy something today
i think the sole is why i like them, makes them look slightly more casual than if they had a heel i'll take some pics when they get here, they might end up looking awful but it was the only thing that really caught my eye and for some reason i felt like i had to buy something today
casualizing brogues is never gonna come off very well imho. it'll look silly at best
i don't really get the thing behind dressing/shaving for somebody else like am I the only one who takes care of his appearance so that he can look into a mirror and feel good about himself??
i feel good about myself when i'm wearing nice clothes- but those clothes are only "nice" because there's other people that also think they are nice, yknow?
Uh, well there would be no fashion or need for any variation of clothing whatsoever if there weren't other people around. having a pleasing appearance makes you feel good because it gives you peace of mind about the impression that others get from you. Looking good only matters because other human beings SEE you
but what if you're not dressing to "look good," but because you enjoy what you're wearing yourself? like some guy in full on goof ninja will look like he's wearing a halloween costume to 99% of people, but that probably doesn't matter to him because he enjoys the artistry that goes into designing the pieces over "looking good" in a jcrew oxford and levis i personally don't wear what i wear to impress people or look more attractive or whatever, i wear what i wear because it's interesting to me [editline]14th March 2014[/editline] I think this quote is relevant here:
Finally, I do recognize however that there are two kinds of subscribers to this sub: Those who see clothes as a means to an end (e.g. getting a job, getting noticed by their preferred gender, being treated differently, expressing idiosyncrasies, displaying wealth, looking good, boosting self-confidence) and those who see clothes as an end in itself (i.e. those who appreciate clothes for what they are and enjoy discussing them broadly and with an open mind). It is for the former that the utilitarian argument represents an obstacle in understanding why would anyone spend x10 or x100 the amount of money in something that is evidently not x10 or x100 times better. The utilitarian argument departs from a wrong assumption: For those who see clothes as an end in itself, more than quality, brand name, or money, it is about, firstly, knowing enough to know for sure what one wants, and, secondly, getting exactly what one wants.
(source)
There's no difference between the "two kinds" mentioned there Anyone who falls into the first category is probably in the second category just as an afterthought The goth ninja dude may not be going for the same sort of peace of mind in the impression he gives others. A lot of alternative-looking people would be more in it for the excitement of looking different (or displaying artistry or whatever the case might be) Your clothes/hair/grooming all comprise a visual handle for you. Your appearance is a societal tool, it works the same way throughout the animal kingdom. Even if you don't realise it, you're wearing your clothes for your benefit in the context of living among other people.
Brown Vans authenthics good to go? Or is there something else you would recommend?
theyre pretty average
if you're at a loss for something else to wear and you just want to stick with something casual and commonly recognised, brown or grey vans are fine i wouldn't recommend authentics though there are much better styles, look at the grey vans era 59's or something [editline]15th March 2014[/editline]
casualizing brogues is never gonna come off very well imho. it'll look silly at best
i dunno brogues are something that a lot of people wear now daily rather than just for formal occasions
i dunno brogues are something that a lot of people wear now daily rather than just for formal occasions
yeah i just think trying to combine it with a light and casual shoe is ultimately gonna be a bit funny looking. if the sole of the one you posted was black then it might be alright
i do see what you're saying, i'm not 100% on them myself we'll see when they get here, i'll try them with a few things and see how they are
How do you guys think a suit should fit? I recently had one tailored for work and i've noticed that alot of people wear them quite loose, as opposed to how i wear it.
alright FULS, I'm in search of a shoe that will go well with a business casual look, but also will work with jeans and a t-shirt sorta deals. what kind of shoe am I looking for? I define business casual as "khakis and a button down."
Clarks Desert Boots are considered the go-to for business casual, or at least they were. I don't really follow that style. Otherwise you could look for some more casual Brogue's or Oxford's.
i hate desert boots. they are so ugly
Why not just some normal leather business shoes? Or do those have a fancy name that I'm not aware of?
it's not a fashion thread it's a 'look good' thread also ok as per request here is me wearing clothes [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1482927/shurt.jpg[/t][t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1482927/jacket.jpg[/t] excuse the hair, ive been at work!
hey where'd you get that jacket?
It's hard to tell, a full body shot would make it much easier to see, but from what I can tell it makes you look very scrawny. I'm sure you are slight, but the cut, especially the shoulders are too thin. Also not liking the shirt suit combination.

The shirt is an old one that's a little too short on the sleeves, i have prefer to have cuff showing when i wear it. To me a baggy suit makes it look like you're a kid wearing his dads or something, but do you think french cuffs and cuff-links is a little too formal for the office IT guy? Keep in mind that i work in an office of Financial Planners in the heart of Sydney (and all of these fuckers have a LOT of money and like to show it)
