since a few pages back rusty was talking about how this thread is more about "dressing well" (ie. slim-fitting and safe) and anytime someone (like savaril) posts something more unconventional the thread turns into a bunch of shit-slinging, maybe there should be a thread for discussing fashion as an art form as opposed to fixing up and looking sharp, in creationism corner or something

honestly it'd probably only attract the people from the streetwear thread. fp just doesn't have enough interest in fashion to warrant more than 2 threads

It would just be the same as the Street wear thread, which is dead
the idea of wearing timbalands in fits is just as a loud, stand out piece right?

when will this shit end? adding core on the end of something and posting a few photos of you in a balaclava to your tumblr isn't starting a fashion trend you're just going to look like a twat

thats like saying people dressed like shit in the 90's. You cant judge them by today's standards
Again, it's in the context of today
I wouldn't post that picture myself just to say it's bad or whatever, it got posted
Well i still think its cool, maybe because its just Biggie. Also shows how long Timbs have lasted
thats like saying people dressed like shit in the 90's. You cant judge them by today's standards
yes you can
the majority of the 90s fashion was terrible but there were always outliers that knew better, i'm sure, however rare
i was not among them, obviously

ThatCrazyGman, can you elaborate on why you think this Derk fit is bad:

I'm confused by this because you liked the other Derk fit with timbs. I personally think this one is even better.

As for this biggie fit, you guys really have to not approach it by the same standards or metric that you judge modern clothing by. Learning to appreciate it takes a while, especially when every magazine or crappy fashion blog constantly takes stabs at 90's fashion. Clothing requires a context, in 10 years everyone will think slim fit workwear ("urban lumberjack") was the dumbest thing ever, but it makes a lot more sense when you imagine the context of a bunch of people in Portland or Vancouver or Brooklyn who listen to Bon Iver and The National or Mumford & Sons or The Lumineers or The Black Keys or whatever.
There were different aesthetic principles back then. People looked for different things, people are always going to look for different things. In the coming years you will probably see a lot of people wearing wide trousers- not JNCO baggy, but something more along the lines of a high-cuffed straight fit or a straight legged pant with a lot of extra length to make it pool around their ankles. And light/medium wash denim will become more popular than dark, raw denim. You're also going to be seeing more "fashionable" people wearing socks with sandals.

People see these commonalities in fashion- like baggy, distressed bootcut jeans- and they get sick of them. It happens and it's natural. But there's an appeal behind that thing, even if you've grown to hate it.
As a recent example, just take a look at Kanye West during his College Dropout years.

The baggy lightwash jeans, the brown blazer, and the red graphic tee are all garish and "ugly" by today's standards but they had their place in the mid 00's. Yeah, it might not be "great fashion" but could you really picture him wearing one of his more recent outfits on the cover of The College Dropout? I couldn't. It doesn't fit the mood and theme of that era in time, where everyone loved bright colours, baggy fits and energetic, warm music.
Or just take a look at Jimi Hendrix. He's wearing extremely dated clothes, but he looks awesome regardless and most of you would probably agree to some extent:

People just aren't comfortable or willing to appreciate 90's and 00's clothing, mainly because it was so recent and most of their peers probably dressed that way. In 10 years people will be saying the same shit about slim fit urban lumberjacks and dark brooding street goths. The only way to truly free yourself from the tides of fashion is to learn how to appreciate fashion from all eras, and keep an open mind. Try to approach an aesthetic not from the angle of "That looks so bad" but "I wonder why people thought that looked good." Because I guarantee you, there was a reason.
In the 90's people spent huge amounts of time and money on getting the right fit. It was just a different sort of fit.

if you wear sunglasses indoors with a scarf pulled over your face and a backwards cap, you will look like a dork. walls of text about cyclical fashion aren't going to change that
Everything else I said in that post had nothing to do with that fit, so I don't know why you are talking about it.
That's also a beanie, not a backwards cap.
It's lovely that you don't seem to understand subjectivity, though.

i understand subjectivity. if you need me to add that onto everything i say then maybe i'm not the one with problems accepting that

its not really clear if its indoors. could also be outdoors with a bad concrete floor. anyway it was for a photoshoot, you dont need to take it that seriously
