Yes it is :D
Got it for free when I pre-ordered UP on BD (Blu-ray disc). PS. I pre-ordered it from BB. And it was not cheap.

I don't think so. The difference is very minimal unless you're watching your television from a mile away.
Same with HD-DVD, we got a few of those too and there's hardly any difference. The main difference is they don't fucking work on normal DVD players.
Summary: Blu-Ray (or HD-DVD) is a gimmick technology unless you analyze the pixels to every movie you watch.
I see no difference between DVD and blu-ray. Maybe I'm just blind, I dunno.

Watch Tranformers Rotf IMAX shots. Your cock will explode.
Id say it is partially worth it, but Discs are really a dying technology. Flash drives and solid state drives are where media is going.

I agree with this. In the future, we're gonna be using USB a whole lot more, or even a faster medium. Even the radio in my car uses a USB port, I fill up a flash drive and plug it in, works A LOT better than a CD, and you can't scratch it.
I've watched zombieland and 300 on bluray. Both were fucking incredible and really enjoyable to watch.
I bought Lord of War on Blu-ray but for some reason my PS3 can't read it but my dad's blu-ray player can :(
No, unless you have a 40"+ TV you won't notice much difference, even then DVD's still look fairly decent.
Also, a fun fact for you; a lot of Blu-Rays are just upscaled DVD quality footage put on to a new disc, this is allowed because the "HD" spec doesn't forbid this.

As long as you have a 40" tv? How about as long as you meet the 1080p resolution? I've watched the 2 films I mentioned in the above post and I noticed a hell of a difference on my 23" monitor.
Blu ray is better, even for non blu ray movies. I had Prison Break season 1 in standard def it wouldn't play on my dvd player, when I tried it on a blu ray player it worked great.

it's not the size of the screen, it's the resolution and where you sit in relation.
and most blu-rays are not upscaled DVD quality footage. you're dumb.
Ha, reminds me of HDDVD
I've never really seen the difference between Bluray and regular DVD, even on an HD TV. I think I'll only start buying Blurays when they truly start to faze out DVDs completely. Otherwise, I've only bought Bluray DVDs that are for movies that I really enjoy and just want to geek out watching in HD, like Watchmen, Dark Night and Star Trek.
Shows like Lost look awesome on blu ray mostly because they were filmed in the HD era. That means filmed(with actual film or HD camera) KNOWING that they will be shown on HD tvs. This means they can include props/costumes/locations that show more detail than they would with regular tv. These shows usually have a real 5.1 soundtrack too.
So all the pieces are there for an awesome blu ray, before any work on 'transfers' needs to be done.
This is great, as long as what you are mainly interested in is recently made stuff.
For someone like me, it's kind of a bummer that a show like Cheers(my favorite comedy) was:
A)Not made in widescreen
B)Not made with HD viewing in mind
C)Not made with surround sound
So, for a show like that, a lot of work needs to be done to make a decent blu ray out of it. This means money needs to be spent by whoever owns the rights. This reduces the chances of a great blu ray because it would be cheaper for them to just use whatever prints/negatives they have to make a blu ray- with no investment in remastering or restoring. Same with sound, they'll just do a quick cleanup of the audio and send it out as a 2 channel stereo, it would cost too much to create custom made 5.1 channel audio for each episode from the original recordings.
I'm hoping the studios and people that hold the rights to this stuff take a chance and spend what it takes to do a good job, out of pride if nothing else.
On the appropriate display and sound system, Fuck Yeah.
yeah it's fuckin sick, awesome quality. Watch planet earth on blu-ray it is awesome (not the disney movie the actual 5 hour set)
Depends on the size and type of your TV. If it's a CRT or something you're not going to notice, personally I prefer BluRay although they're still a bit pricy for my blood.
of course with a CRT you won't notice, most CRTs are 480i, and even the 480p CRTs are blurry and have terrible irreparable color convergence
They already have a TV capable of 2160p..

holy shit i thought that was a window
it's only worth it if you have a good set up. blu-ray with small hdtv and weak speakers is pointless. but with a big 1080p screen, and surround sound, it's an incredible experience.
animated movies in particular are spectacular. wall-e is amazing.
Blu ray is a money sucker
Atleast Dracula had teeth

All the Pixar films..
I think blurays are worth it but it all depends on the film and price.
For example, recently I picked up Moon and Crank 2 on blu ray for a tenner each (some shops are selling the DVD versions at £12).

Ok.
Btw, I can't wait until Avatar is on Blu-Ray. Anyone know if it's going to be in 3D that is compatible with today's TV's? It will probably use the red/blue 3d glasses right? Because The gray kind won't work with regular tv's if I remember correctly.

we finally have an HD TV, so Blu-Ray is in my near future, its going to suck re-buying every movie I bought on DVD, thats a few grand right there.
good thing our Families Xbawks 360 does a good job of playing regular DVD's on the TV without loosing too much quality.

You don't have to re-buy every movie. Some look good on blu-ray, some not. Depends on the movie. I would save the money for new blu-ray releases, there are some films a few years old that aren't out yet. Hm, perhaps I should say some are worth it, some not for your money. If it's a good movie, go ahead and get it, if its an ok movie, don't waste your money.

Yeah but the 360 is crazy loud. Not amazing for playing movies. Just my opinion though.
