As long as you have a 40" tv? How about as long as you meet the 1080p resolution? I've watched the 2 films I mentioned in the above post and I noticed a hell of a difference on my 23" monitor.
I mean in terms of TV's which are generally viewed from a distance and not right up in your face like a monitor.
Yeah but the 360 is crazy loud. Not amazing for playing movies. Just my opinion though.
I just turn the volume up to drown out the 360.

OP. Seeing as this thread does not have much longer. Just PM me if you need to know anything.
Apparently the Blu-Ray projects more frames per second then we can even see. Interesting huh?
My pc has a blu-ray drive, if you can't notice a difference you need to A)buy a new tv/monitor or B) get corrective eye surgery.
It is worth the money if you WANT to have Hi-Def movies. If you could care less, then no it's not worth it. Priorities people, jeez.

Then what's the point :v:
If you have an SD TV, no. If you have a 720p or 1080p HD TV, yes. Also, they're not that expensive, usually around 10$ more than DVDs. You can find a lot of great deals on Blu-rays too. I got Reservoirs Dogs and Kill Bill (Both Vols.) for 40$.
I didn't think I would really care for blu-rays all that much, but once I started, I found it to be very worth it.

If you know where to look. You can find BD's so cheap.
Since some people still seem to think there's no difference, here's that Lost screenshot without thumb tags so you can't avoid seeming how amazing it looks.

Tbh, I don't like Blu-Ray live action movies. Animated movies look a lot more colorful and cool, but live action movies all look like they had no editing to the original footage at all and remind me of the quality of a handicam for some reason.
I dunno. That's just me.
of course with a CRT you won't notice, most CRTs are 480i, and even the 480p CRTs are blurry and have terrible irreparable color convergence
My CRT is 1080i and extra sexy because of its Samsung-ness.

Because usually its noisy and sharp, which comes from bad TV's.
Once you see Blu-Ray on an OLED TV, you won't wanna go back.

Well whenever I go to an electronics store, they're usually showing Blu-Ray demos on their best TVs. I still don't really like the way it looks. Sounds great, just looks.. TOO smooth to me.

They play DVD's on TV's that have been running for hours and hours. Not great gauges.
first movie i watched in blu-ray 1080p was Tropic thunder.
god damn it looked so much better on blu-ray, seriously from the opening you can tell it's 1000 times better

True that, I guess. But I can't afford Blu-Ray anyways, so I'll just stick to HD.

What does that even mean? Blu-Ray movies are in HD.
if it was on an LCD screen, that's why. honestly I'm not a fan of LCDHDTVs as you can see the pixels, because essentially it's just a regular 1920x1080 22" or so LCD monitor but blown up to 48-55"
for LCD to not look like shit with HD it'd have to have a display resolution of at least 3840x2160. which is why I prefer plasma and DLP
I have a 720p LCD and the quality of Blu-Ray still rocks the cocks off of upscaled DVDs.
Ok.
Btw, I can't wait until Avatar is on Blu-Ray. Anyone know if it's going to be in 3D that is compatible with today's TV's? It will probably use the red/blue 3d glasses right? Because The gray kind won't work with regular tv's if I remember correctly.
I'm sure they will re-release a 3D blu-ray when 3D tvs become popular in the next 2-3 years.
If you own the proper gear for it, then it's more than worth it, However if you're still stuck on your 20" 720p TV with no surround or anything but the inbuilt speakers, then it's not worth it.
Personally I'm getting a 42" Plasma TV for movies only, and I have high expectations for it.
For those who already has the gear and is already viewing bluray, there's a webside called http://www.tweaktv.com/ that can help you tweak your tv to a better image quality.

The xbox 360 isn't loud, infact it's more quiet than the average computer I've heard.
Did I get some prototype of the 360, as mine has never had a rrod nor is it loud?
It pisses me off every time I see those TV commercials advertising remakes of classic Disney films in High Definition Blu Ray... they're classic CARTOONS.
For something like avatar, Blu Ray would be great... if I had a bigger screen.

but.. you need a damn good HD TV to notice the real difference. so if you got a SD TV... don't do it
who cares, so long as the movie frekin awesome- superbad ftw!! :)
They already have a TV capable of 2160p..
http://www.tgdaily.com/consumer-electronics-features/37511-samsung-demos-82%E2%80%9D-2160p-hdtv
They should make a 42" inch tv with that resolution, twice the PPI(pixels per inch) which is what we really need, large devices with higher PPI.
1080p on a 42' inch tv, gives you 52 PPI. my 1080p laptop screen is 137 and my phone has 265 PPI with a 3.7 inch screen. Why can't we have huge tvs with pixels you can't even see when your right up to it.

I don't get it. Why do them Images that are SD look different then
I've always wondered if using my PS3 as a blu-ray player was a bad idea, I don't know if I'm getting the 'FULL HD EXPERIENCE' with it. Can anyone comment on it? Alot of the time when playing Lost on blu-ray for example it can seem very 'blurry' when they're moving around etc.
PS3 is still considered one of the best blu ray players you can get, so if you aren't happy with what you are seeing then it's due to some other component.
The full blu ray experience can be summed up with: 1080P 50" or larger screen and 5.1 or higher lossless audio.
Note that not all blu rays are widescreen or have more than 2 track audio(stereo), and even then it may be 'fake' stereo if the original audio was mono.

If you're into gaming then it's worth.. It costs a few dollars so you should be certain that you will get the fullest out of it.
Iron Man in Blu Ray is great.
Fuck HDDVD I only watch Betamax :colbert:
My dad just showed me a few Betamax on his player he just found
I was amazed.
Iron Man in Blu Ray is great.
That's the one movie at the top of my MUST OWN list. Although I don't own it yet. Will be buying it for sure before Iron Man 2.
