I'm also going to be going to Disney World next week
Last time I've been there was around 7~8 years ago, can't wait to see what sort of renovations they've made since then
iirc Disneyland redid Space Mountain and made it much smoother right?
Unfortunately overhauls like that take a while and people get pissed when a big ride is closed during their trip.
I should have never gone on during spring break. I waited two hours in that line in front of a group of hooligans (ethnicity withheld) and they still had that damn bump that breaks every bone in my ass.
On my 6th birthday my parents said we were going to Disney world. Never happened. Oh well first world problems I guess
I'll tell you fucking what though!!! On May the 4th be with you night, after I got off work, I headed straight to Hollywood Studios. Holy SHIT. The firework show was spectacular, and I started a dance-off circle with an Ewok!
I had to go work the Everest run and missed it. :( I really hope they have it again during Star Wars Weekends

space mountain and matterhorn both received heavy refurbishments, yes. matterhorn typically goes down for about 3 months every other year. a few years ago, they noticed that the structure apparently sinks.
yeah.
And speaking of the whole 24 hour day. I highly recommend it guys. I wish I could go, but it's gonna be blacked out for me. And I'm lucky my restaurant is still closing at midnight.
FYI chubbles, you are never blacked out for the parks even on the special events, that's how I went to One More Disney Day last year
FYI chubbles, you are never blacked out for the parks even on the special events, that's how I went to One More Disney Day last year
not anymore :(
they just started doing this and rumor has it it's going to be done more and more. They might even start blacking out spring break / holiday season.

Yeah you are, one more Disney day was a stupid last minute event/announcement, and was too late to be blocked out. It was so horribly moderated and controlled. It's a fucking joke that the company is doing this just for merchandise sales(literally), it's not worth it.
where are my stupid imagineer stories
where are my stupid imagineer stories
Not Stupid Imagineer, but I did email Tony Baxter, the then head of imagineer, about becoming one and he emailed me back about a year ago.
Brian,
It's good to see you're following your dream by participating in the College Program at WDW. It was my own love of what Walt Disney had done with Disneyland that led me to spend most spare moments there while a kid and to finally begin working at the park — scooping ice cream!
It's tough to speak precisely about requirements for working here, because Imagineering includes just about every career imaginable – artists, painters, writers, architects, audio and video technicians, electronic engineers, structural engineers, mechanical engineers, accountants, estimators, and on and on. It’s hard to imagine any field of work that isn’t represented by an Imagineer. Perhaps comments on preparation are best put in terms of attitude and persistence.
To get a start here at Walt Disney Imagineering, you have to be excellent at one specific skill. It might be writing, drafting or illustration – but you have to excel at it. With such a skill, you will be able to help realize existing WDI ideas (and later your own). The more successfully you can fill the roles and solve existing design problems, the more opportunity you will find to express your own creative ideas. Most importantly, you will gain experience and a foothold in the industry. This approach is the only way I know of getting started.
It’s a misconception that the majority of the effort we undertake here is “idea-generation.” We never seem to have a shortage of good ideas, just the time and resources to execute them all! The reality is that the “idea time” is probably about one percent of a project. The rest of the time involves the process of making the very best of those ideas a reality.
As you continue to plan your education, figure out what it is you like to do best, and then become the best at doing it. At the same time, keep your eyes open for other things that interest you, and learn all you can about those. If your interest leans toward the technical end, there are many good schools around the country that can help you prepare. If your interest is more towards the artistic end, you might contact the California Institute of theArts (located in Valencia, California) or Art Center College of Design (in Pasadena, California). As you probably know, CalArts in Valencia was founded with a grant from the estate of Walt Disney.
After you’re well settled in whatever college you choose, you might also want to contact our personnel folks and ask about the ImagiNations/Intern Program. Interns are usually 3rd year college students who come to work at Imagineering during the summer. It’s a great program that gives you valuable work experience early on.
Thanks again for writing, and good luck with all your plans!
Sincerely,
Tony Baxter
Went to Disney World last year, loved it. Still collecting pins since I was a kid, but I lost my necklace-chain thing I had when I moved a while back :c.
Feel like restarting the collection when I go there next year/2015
I love Hollywood Studios but apparently it has the lowest attendance of all the parks
I go there for the Tower of Terror and Rock'n'Roller Coaster. Used to for Star Tours, but I sorta am iffy on it's new design, I liked it, but I miss the old robot pilot. He was funny.
My only favorite park really is Magic Kingdom, it's got everything, and now with New Fantasyland it's better.
should check out Mystic Manor, I believe it uses the same ride system

Phantom Manor is anything but a rethemed Haunted Mansion
well I mean you get what I mean, kept a lot of the basic elements
Only ever been to the Paris resort. It was a college trip to see a conference and it also by luck was on my birthday too.
We skipped the conference because it was dull as shit and I spent the entire weekend absolutely wasted.
On our first booze run the rentacops caught us and took our drinks away so we did it again at night, acting like drunk ninjas and shit. A small child ran head first into a crate of beer bottles I had under my arms. Out cold.
It was a good time.
That was the last trip they let the IT Students go on for some reason.
I'm going back to WDW this summer. Problem is I am running out of space to put all my new pins.
I've always loved theme parks. I was 7 years old when I rode my first big coaster and I fell in love with thrill rides. As a Jurassic Park fan and a Back to the Future fan, naturally I always wanted to go to Universal Studios as a kid. Alongside that, I loved Disney's movies and wanted to go to Disney World as well.
In 2003 my family went to Florida to live the dream of going to Universal and Disney. I had an absolute blast at Universal. Being able to live the adventures of Jurassic Park and Back to the Future was a dream come true. When we got to Disney World, things went sour. It was the end of June and the park was packed. The lines were almost 3 hours long, and the only 3 rides we got to go on was Buzz Lightyear, Haunted Mansion, and Space Mountain. Due to the long waits and constant break downs I left Disney World with a sour taste in my mouth.
Fast forward to 2005 when my Mother and I went to Florida by ourselves to celebrate my 16th birthday. My mom is a huge Back to the Future fan and she turned me on to the series. We rode the Back to the Future ride over and over again. We stood at Uni for a week and Back to the Future: The Ride easily became my favorite attraction of all time. A sad moment I will never forget was when my mom asked if I wanted to ride BTTF one last time. I turned around and took a good look at the ride and said "Nah, I'll be back soon". That all went to hell.
As many of you guys should know, it was closed and replaced with the awful Simpsons attraction. This crushed me. I'm not exaggerating when I say a little piece of me died when they closed BTTF.
I felt very homeless without a theme park to love. Sure, Jurassic Park and JAWS were still there (Not so much JAWS anymore) but without Back to the Future there was no sense of history to the park. Universal descended into a trendy park that just likes to cash in on whatever is popular at the time.
I began to think about Disney. Disney still has rides that are pushing 20-30 years. They keep their classics alive and you can go to Disney and have the same experiences 10 years later. Now I live in California, and I'd like to give Disney another shot. I'm heading to Disneyland and California Adventure next month with my buddy from out of town. I'm really hoping to get immersed in the world of Disney and really enjoy myself.
Anything you guys recommend I do to optimize my visit?
FastPass, research on the Internet, etc.
Just try to have a clue what your'e doing before you get there.

You can buy pin books. They hold a ton.
If you don't want to watch parades or fireworks they're the best time to go on rides
Also, litter as much as possible; it's far more convenient than walking to a trash can.
Listen to my teachings on how to get free food at Pinocchio's Village Haus.

That's how to optimize a part of your food experience at least.

ur a dick
I am so addicted to Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom that it's embarrassing. I'm wondering when Disney's going to take the plunge and introduce a second series of cards.
universal studios orlando is BETTER
Going to WDW from the 27th of Dec to the 3rd of Jan. My mother is really killing to go and I'm hoping that we can sort everything out and get things done. Since we're gonna spend a week or so down there, we've been planning since.. about the middle of April. She's handicapped so there is a lot we're going to try to do with her if we can.
I haven't been since I was a kid, so I am really looking forward to going.
Does anyone know if they sell country flags at Epcot? In the village areas? I'd really like to get some full sized flags and I'm willing to deal out some serious dosh for them.

Get guest assistance passes right away. Also the gift shops are all unique so it depends but I'd assume they'd all sell flags
I was able to play with my school's marching band during some seminars two years ago and had the chance to see a bit backstage, very very different perspective, no pictures allowed kinda stuff, totally a different ambient. Very interesting experience, they are very precise and on the spot with schedules and timing.

I'll definitely look into a GAC. Reading up on it now.
