Doesn't it cost like $200,000 to get into space? :raise:
We would need to use Facepunch Advanced Propulsion.
Reporter: How will you get this ship off the ground?
Us: Welln you see, mam, we will be using the power of FAP.
Look, the extent of Facepunch's exploration into the outside is the various meetups and stuff around the world - even they require loads of planning and stuff. Anything more than having a few members meet up and have a laugh is gonna be too tiring and / or boring for the average Facepuncher to put any effort into.
I'm just thinking... what if we make a rocket and we make a rig of a shitload amount of balloons. The balloons take the rocket part of the way then we remotely fire the rocket. Good idea or is not a good idea?
Why don't we build a small house, then sell it and invest the return we get in shares in Copenhagen Sub-Orbitals? Then we could own the company and tell them what to do...
[editline]02:08PM[/editline]
On a side note, I think most of facepunch has trouble leaving the house, let alone leaving Earth's gravity well.
I think a better idea for facepunch is to become railpunch.
And build a really fucking big railgun! :science:
All you have to do is buy a lot of Iron, some wire, get a programme set up for very rapid firing of very powerful electromagnets, and a few ferrous slugs.
Then you can sell the design to an army and build a bigger one with the contract money, and continue to build epic railguns.
We would need students that have graduated with a degree in aerospace engineering. Until then, let's focus on balloons with cameras strapped on them.
Give me 2 years to finish my course and I will help.
As suggested in another thread, we need to create the Facepunch Aeronautics Program, F.A.P.
no one in this forum is actually serious about this project and takes it as a joke, which i find amusing.
That's what you get for spending $999.95 of your mother's paypal money on flimsey parts
but!# but!!!1111 im only 11!!!1!!!! wat is this?!?!
[editline]01:41PM[/editline]
If garry can get gmod server binaries onto linux, THEN THE FACEPUNCH COMMUNITY CAN MAKE IT INTO SPACE!
There is no racing. Some guys from SA did it already, there rest of the community had nothing to do with it. Meanwhile, Facepunchers are stroking their dicks at the idea of doing the same and 4chan is drooling on itself I assume
They actually got something 'floating' about in space?

I second this name.
We should do a Facepunch Mars Mission just to piss on their bonfire.

Me too.
Mostly because I created it.

Yes lets go to mars.
With current propulsion technology, that will take approximately nine months to mars, we need to stay there for three months before leaving, then nine months back again.
We need supplies for 21 months, and a rocket ship that can land on mars and have enough fuel to take off again and last for 9 months.
Then we need to shield the ship to withstand solar radiation, because there's no way we'll be lucky enough to be in the middle of a radiation peak if we'll be without an atmosphere for a total of 18 months.
Lets get to work guys!
[editline]04:22PM[/editline]
Not saying we shouldn't go to Mars, just that it's pretty hard.

You're so defeatist.
How about something simpler, that won't cost too much and that won't glass everything in the range of 500 square metres should it go bad?
A Facepunch boat (not a cruise ship, but not a rowboat either) maybe?
You're so defeatist.
As I said, I'm all for it.
I'll even be the astronaut, as long as you can ensure you've got adequate supplies and protection.

I'm telling you we should make a rail gun, it would be cheap as fuck in comparison to space flight and very few people have actually built a sizeable one, in fact, only armies have built sizeable ones.

Wheres the Clap gif when I need it?
Edit: How facepunch ends the world.
1. We get a rocket going
2. Rocket does great, we launch another one
3. Rocket goes into russia.
4. EWR detects nuclear missle.
GAME OVER MAN GAME OVER.

Lets all watch this for inspiration:

It sounds like our hopes are
up in space xD
Also in almost every way, single-use spaceships are better than reusable ones.

No, the meteorite that wiped out the dinosaurs X 1000
Band all of the programmers together and make Fuck Shit Up.
Fuck the space program we're going to create a communistic insect army to do our bidding
Rather then going to space make a space simulator
Isn't the SA rocket supposed to launch today, or did it get postponed?
I'll officially graduate with my BS in Aerospace Engineering in a couple months, I'm only 6 credits from completion right now. However, it'd also be good to have mechanical engineers, chemical engineers, electrical engineers, and probably some space sciences people who actually like orbital mechanics at the very, very least. I assume we already have enough people who can do the coding, but it needs to be done in older, very stable, languages.
All in all, there are so many super classified programs (that are gigantic) that NASA uses for calculating re-entry, orbital mechanics, gravity, etc, that I don't think this can really be done by a lot of people in their spare time at any rate faster than a retarded snails pace. Even just simply launching a large rocket is quite complicated: once you think it can reach a certain altitude, you have to let the Air Force know because it then gets classified as a missile. When senior design projects at my school get to that point, the Air Force also keeps an eye on it ready to shoot it out of the sky at the first sign of trouble.
I'm aiming at getting a master's degree in electronics, specifically micro- and nanoelectronics, but it'll take 8 years from now.

I was, surprisingly, disappointed :frown:

9/11 x 1000 = 818.18182?
