I like these even more than your usual work. They have a specific style to them that reminds me of big city night-life glamor shots.
Well, the first three have a circa '99 skate-shop vibe, but the last two have the other style.
All of them are pretty kickass though.

Made this when I was bored
It is 1280x1024 just in case you were wondering...
Your one word reply isn't answering my question or helping me whatsoever. Why do you all get so butthurt over a fucking border?
I don't think anyone is butthurt here, but I'll explain in detail.
Your pictures are bad, and when you put a border around your bad pictures, it implies a smug "tadaaaaa" mentality.
To put it another way, there's two ways to think about art--one is doing art for the sake of the end product, which you then treat as a "piece," as something you've invested yourself very deeply in and are thusly less apt to take criticism. The other way is doing art in order to get better, and seeing individual drawings, photos, or what have you as simply a byproduct of that. The first way is the natural, egoistic way that all artists tend to think in, to some extent. The second way is the way artists need to TRY to think in. Not many people can break entirely free of the "this is my ART" attitude, but there's no reason to embed yourself too deeply in it, or you end up like Snapesnogger. In that context, adding artsy borders to what are essentially snapshots is an unnecessary and obnoxious step in the wrong direction.
As for the photos themselves:
-Most of them are out of focus
-You have the flash on
-There's generally little to no sense of composition, making the photos boring to look at
These three things combined make the pictures look pretty much like snapshots anyone would take of their friends/immediate environs, which is why you putting borders on them comes off as so douchey.
Make sense?

daijitsu gave a way better photo-oriented critique than me. gg.
yeah, the borders are a little bit of an unneeded touch... however, there's something you can do to help frame your photos for sake of presentation on the web. Instead of applying it to the photo, you can use BigHugeLab.com's service "On Black" to create a separate page for your picture, you guessed it, on black. (it only works linked to a flickr account, though)
it helps to make the picture feel a little more singular and, with dark pictures, helps to bring out detail that you may not have noticed due to the bright contrast of seeing it on flickr's solid white pages.

I really do put thought into these shots. These aren't snapshots. A 5-pixel black border isn't any kind of fancy frame, to me. I do it because I like to give my photos somewhere to end. I am shooting to get better, but that doesn't mean each photo didn't have thought put into it.
As for the images themselves:
Yes, some of these are out of focus. Actually, they just look that way because of a wobbly tripod. I'm aware of that, but thanks.
The smoking photos are the only ones with flash. It was dark, and I wanted a pitch-black background. I'm aware there's very little composition in these, as I was really just trying to improve my technique (rather than composition) regarding night photography.
I mean, really, I do treat photos as a work of art. Not these in particular, because like I said they were mostly practice.
I do have other photos that I put a lot more thought and time into, which I consider true works of art. Some of which have been posted in previous threads.
However the only reason I put borders on my photos is:
1) It takes like 2 seconds really.
2) It gives the photo a place to end, on these stark white pages. I have kind of an OCD for good design, and giving the image a border makes it easier to look at.
I'm not adding borders in a "This is a work of art!" sense.
However, I appreciate you explaining yourself. Thanks.

See, I like that a lot. That reinforces my design argument.

Entire set up cost £80, and that's only because the HDPE Plastic top-sheet on the box (to stop digging in an edge with board/skiis) cost £65

Crappy shot I took of a friend with the homemade bounce flash thing.
bad composition on that one alex
bad composition on that one alex
Yeah, it wasn't anything special. I just wanted to see if the whole bounce flash thing worked.
Since i'm at this new school, i get to use expensive media equipment like film cameras, the studio room, photography cameras, anything you could ask for. I checked out one of the photography camera's (Canon Rebel) and took some pictures.

This one was one of my first time using the camera and i just happen to catch a car going through a red light on a low Fstop.
I decided to take a picture of some purple flowers by my house. I wouldn't think this one would come out good, but i was wrong.

This one i sent in to my local paper and they used it for an article. I was walking around my school and i saw a police van pull up and they said that there was a bomb threat at the bank. So i took some pictures of the scene.
Oh i would like to add that i barely photoshopped the pictures. Mainly for the levels and color correction

I'd have to disagree with you there, it did the opposite to me. Like TH89 said it made them go "hey, look at me!" but there was not much to look at.

it's a pretty generic flower shot, don't get too excited

Going up for "Your Shot" on National Geographic, I need votes.
Nice natural lighting, but the composition is pretty naff
Brought a new notebook, did some things. (I'm only learning to draw)

Quick 5 minute job for some shitty thread in General Discussion.
The internet has an ESRB rating generator.

I think that'd be better if the text was the same color as the logo, and w/o the drop shadow imo imo
Nice natural lighting, but the composition is pretty naff
Yeah, I was pretty pissed that the photo turned out like that. I tried to crop it so it would hopefully turn out better, but I guess it didn't work out.

Actually the original is much better, since it shows much more. So I'll just put up a new link for it. It's too bad I'll never be able to recreate this shot to get it in better composition though.

Horizon really needs to be level
Woman shouldn't be in the middle
You've added more to the shot but it hasn't fixed any of the problems I had with it
I take your bounce flash and raise you a

It's still a good shot, but I messed up the composition since I was taking the shot really quick before someone noticed. I messed up quite a bit though. I was already aware she was too much in the middle though, which made me a bit mad when I was reviewing it months ago.
