Maybe you should branch out a bit from high-contrast b/w, Alex.
On the whole FP is more critical than any layperson, film goer, or client ever would be Even specific photography forums I've frequented in the past have been nicer It's constructive, but you need a thick skin That and it's sorta fun to bait the fish if they keep biting the worm
I'm not sure about nicer, but there are forums like SA's which have a greater amount of knowledgable users. It's reflected in their commenting and criticizing. Now, if you want nicer, we could be like Flickr - sucking each other off, going nowhere. ____ And Brian, I wasn't trying to joke around or be sarcastic in my post. http://www.facepunch.com/showpost.php?p=18634610&postcount=630 Please share with us what makes you feel uncomfortable when you receive comments that aren't praise. EDIT: Thanks for replying. I'd say more, but I feel there's no use in doing so; your mind is set.

More often then not I know what is wrong with my picture. I don't like posting something and having 15 people say the same thing over and over. If her legs need more light.. I will get around to fixing it I doubt other people want to scroll over 15 people saying her legs need more light. It's just annoying to watch people bitch about menial things. I share lighting information on pretty much all of my shots. I answer tons of questions in PMs on FP, Flickr, Facebook, and email on lighting gear, techniques, and people lookin fur duh noodz. I run screen casts while i am editing and let people learn from it. I feel like harsh crit from photogs who mainly shoot macros and B&Ws of random objects can tone down the wikipedia photography rules thumping. /ranty rant *swigs apple juice and hits F5*

Edit:
I feel like harsh crit from photogs who mainly shoot macros and B&Ws of random objects can tone down the wikipedia photography rules thumping.
I surely hope that's not your impression of me, not that I really care, just that you're completely wrong.
/ranty rant
Well put, I've been waiting for a passionate rant like that forever. [img]http://www.facepunch.com/fp/rating/heart.png[/img] edit- only macro I remember was mine... I think... bad memory. :c

I think you are a dick NOW. I didn't think anyone was nore did I have any sort of harsh feeling before. No thats not my impression of you. I respect your work completely and quite like it.
Maybe you should branch out a bit from high-contrast b/w, Alex.
I have, it's just that I'm doing a little project I made up myself on old people in this one place I go to. When I get a soft box and start doing portrait shoots, I'm obviously not going to be doing a lot of black and white stuff.

Either way, I don't think there's a reason to reply with attitude to a post intended to be constructive, since everyone in this thread is just trying to help each other improve.

I've always wanted a good reference to do a good soldier model off so I decided to dust off the old wacom and get to it myself, so I started this evening on a soldier reference for my own use down the line.
Thread turned around I like this. I'm not gay. [editline]12:27AM[/editline] Also I realized I've never posted any of my photos on FP. Oops.

Best pic of the moon ever derek

Love picture 20, I was hoping to see the bigger version from the little "outtakes?" pic on your flickr. also, is the gallery custom, or a template? Love the whole style, despite the a-a-a-a-a-alcohol song... that 'a' sound makes my throat hurt listening to it. Good mix of it, though, blends into the background and keeps the gallery flowing like a slideshow as I'm clickin' through it.
I am such a bad photographer. I don't use rule of thirds and I think her belly button ring is off. I should be shot.
There you go doing it again. It's not worse than just ignoring the posts, and the fact that people notice those things at least means they did watch your photo and want to help you the way they can help. What you do over PMs, Flickr and Facebook is unrelated because that's not here. If you don't like getting criticism you shouldn't post, that's generally how it works. People are indeed obsessed with rules of thirds. But usually it is because they think it would look better if it was placed in rules of thirds because they didn't find the picture to look as good as it possibly could be because it wasn't placed in the rules of thirds. Good juice?
The way I see it, we aren't DeviantArt. On DA everyone's got a sugar frosted ice cream chocolate coat over everything they say. You get no constructive criticism that way, only praise, even if your work is bad. Here we just let loose what we think.
Go to deviantart. -Most popular all time deviations Start giving actual criticism and receive a shit storm. Really I love actually analysing the really cliché and popular art (most of the really popular deviations are very well executed, it's usually just the content that's so fucking boring). DA is like some huge orgy of people giving eachother compliments. I hate it...
I don't like posting something and having 15 people say the same thing over and over.
Then don't post it, you know the people that post here, you're not going to change them
