I might be getting some shots of the 2 foot snow we have here (2 ft in a single day and night) tomorrow, once the snow stops.
Just some random shots. Don't know what FP will think of them. Personally I think they're alright, but nowhere near as good as some people here's are.

I took this one this evening.

I'm really a fan or realistic photography and IMO your motives are very good. However, i'm nowhere near a professional, but let me give you some CC anyway.
[IMG_THUMB]http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/3289/ambience.png[/IMG_THUMB]
Table takes up too much and is therefore pretty distracting from the actual focus. Could need a bit more contrast and sharpness. Love the yellow light though.
[IMG_THUMB]http://img706.imageshack.us/img706/8130/acrossthevalley.png[/IMG_THUMB]
Again, weird composition. The straws all seem to crave for the viewer's focus.
[IMG_THUMB]http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/6105/snookerc.png[/IMG_THUMB]
What i said above. Are you trying to depict the excellent texture of the snooker table?
I don't think always persisting on the rule of thirds does any good but I think it would provide a good help for your composition. Most cameras can display a grid over the picture that can help you with that.
I've never really posted anything in this section before, all the fantastic photography is kind of intimidating...
But as I started Uni, I was given access to their shiny cameras with lots of buttons which I don't understand..
So I've started playing with them, and heres a bit of my result: (Huge Photos)

This one may seem a little boring, but there's something really intriguing about this building, the architecture is quite striking.

I haven't edited them more than the tiniest fraction of hue and saturation correction(primarily becaus e I wouldn't know where to start...).
I'd love some criticism from the pros... Thanks for reading.

I hate how some people get noticed on Flickr because they spam their page to every forum known to man. Either that or they just tell relatives who are actually willing to spread the word of their page. Then again the same method also applies to Youtube, but everyone gets noticed after a certain point in time.

As said, this is probably what happened. I don't really advertise my stuff everywhere, but I still get views nonetheless.

I tend to find that many good/creative pictures never get many views on flickr.

Yeah, that's what happens when you put the picture in THIRTY TWO flickr groups... and like the others said, probably spammed the hell out of it somewhere.

every art site becomes more of a contest of ingenuity, favoring those who know how to advertise themselves over those with actual talent.
[editline]02:26PM[/editline]
WAAAAAAIT... :raise:
that picture, perfumly, IS in the flickr blog today, as I assume that's how you found it. Probably why it's getting more attention now. There were only 7 posts, all "2 months ago", then the rest started 20 hours ago.
Yeah wtf I thought only good pictures were supposed to go to the flickr blog.
very true... the white balance is killing me. Maybe they thought it was cool because of the "long exposure", since it's in so many of those groups. Nothing a 1/2 shutterspeed can't do when the train is blasting past in the subway. They're so fast it scares the hell out of you when they all of a sudden pass by. :ohdear:
Why the Flickr hate, I've never browsed Flickr in my life and have only seen pictures from Flickr as a result of forum posts or google image but if it's such a "trendy" place why does anyone care what is popular there? I imagine Flickr as a place where color-splash photo's are the ruling class.
Facepunch is going mad.
Seriously stop whining.
Life is unfair.
Get over it...

I just got inspired to do a Film Noir style photo shoot just now, only problem is I don't live in a city and I need really good volunteers for this. Gah.

ooh, sounds like fun. I was told my eight thoughts set was very film-noir, though I honestly didn't think about that style when I decided on the lighting.

"OMFG! It has lines that sucks me into the picture and I totally feel like she is alone and lost. The warm colours are a great contrast with the loneliness of the picture reflecting well upon how people can have it pretty bad even though they have a good life compared to others. I also love how the train turned into a wall, and the big unfocused wall to the left gives a great feeling of being dragged into the center of the picture. Plz take more. xoxox"
I guess that's how it goes.

I spot contact lenses. You should also sharpen the picture.

Horrible colour temperature. Bad pose. Too much empty space.
That's the reasons why I dislike it. Meaning, basically everything about it.
It would have been much better with just the bag dude there standing there alone.
I hate it because the white balance is off, the shape of the picture is awkward, the subject is boring, and the composition is majorly lacking.
The composition consists of: "BULLSEYE!"

I've always loved Film Noir stuff since I was little, and I have loads of great ideas. Now I just need to get my camera back and get myself a good lighting setup.

yep. Also, didn't feel the need to sharpen it, was only for an 8x10 (well, whatever width it comes out to x 10 tall) print that no one was getting close to. I didn't wantto go through the extra effort for nothing...
...extra effort as in toying with a single slider in photoshop.

I used a B800 lamp from Alienbees, but instead of using the umbrella, I just aimed it directly at the subject. Backdrop was a $25 black fleece or whatever blanket, hung over a door frame. :v:

My sister left some rather creepy self-pictures on my camera during that noir-esque shoot behind my back. You can see the setup I was working with. :raise:

...BRILLIANT move, seeing as she was supposed to be 'vanity' in the shoot, in which I wanted her to be taking a picture of herself like all the little myspace kids these days.

I'd try to get over the fact that a mediocre picture garnered so much attention on flickr because it's quite common there.
I've seriously seen a guy with an expensive dSLR doing a self-taken "myspace shot" in front of the mirror getting his photo featured on the front page. Flickr is a bit like the youtube of the photo world except for the fact that it allows nude shots. A lot of the comments there are on a totally different level (meaning lower) than what goes on in this forum section. Mostly simple praise, dick sucking, and vague comments.
So it shouldn't be much of a surprise now, the next time you see something like that train station photo.
Hey, I should make a thread just for photo or art related discussion. That way, we can have fun bitching or talking about art-related crap in a totally separate area.
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
