I've got to do a run to the lab tomorrow and drop off 6 rolls, and then spend ~5 hours on Tuesday scanning it all :v:

Been thinking of buying that as it seems a good choice for the money but then again, I'm no scanner expert.

The image quality would probably be slightly worse, because I know that the V500 has a 'true' dpi of 1900, so the V300 might only have 1500, which is still probably enough.

It's mainly for putting the pictures up on Flickr and such so I don't need the huuuuuge resolutions. I just want to get decent/good scans because my local stores treat my film like shit.
it's more than just the resolution too, you also need to take into consideration the dynamic range that it can capture and how well it reproduces colours.
it's more than just the resolution too, you also need to take into consideration the dynamic range that it can capture and how well it reproduces colours.
Yeah I know but I read the dynamic range was pretty good and colors were fairly accurate. [editline]27th June 2011[/editline] Oh wow, just started up my girlfriends laptop and I see it has a program installed for the Epson V300 v:v:v
The developing equipment at my local Jessops was broken today, and wouldn't be fixed for 5 days so I went to Snappy Snaps instead. The my film wouldn't rewind so the guy put it in the darkbox and got the film back in the canister :buddy:. I also had a lengthy chat with the store dude about my Zenit and general photography. Shame about the prices though, costs twice as much as Jessops, but then the service is much better. They also seem to process 120 for cheap. Can't wait to see the results for this weeks 365.
i got film developed in the snappy snaps near me (the people in the closest jessops seem to not know what the hell they are talking about when it comes to anything at all), asked for prints just for the hell of it, then realised they did colour correction on all of them, and most of them got raped with noise reduction as well. so i just ended up with a bunch of prints that look like they were taken with a shitty digital point and shoot :saddowns:
asda made mine look well gritty [editline]27th June 2011[/editline] also going to finally finish my roll of xp2 that i started 2 months ago

Though I might ask for less colour correction/noise reduction next time.
Hi guys, was wondering why do you still use film? I do because I'm a shitty photographer and am not going to spend €300,- on a DSLR if I can get a SLR for €3. Also, more importantly, I have a camera that has been opened for about 1 second with the film still in it (wasn't wound properly), was in a room with sunlight in it, I should just trash the film right? Here's probably the only photo I've made worth uploading:

Also, more importantly, I have a camera that has been opened for about 1 second with the film still in it (wasn't wound properly), was in a room with sunlight in it, I should just trash the film right?
I use film for a few reasons, 1) It changes the way that I act as a photographer. When shooting film I become slower, more thoughtful, more conservative. Instead of taking a few hundred shots to find the best one, I trust myself and take just one. I think I have now transfered this habit over to digital photography too. 2) The gear is incredibly cheap (comparatively). For about $400 I have a Medium format TLR. To get comparable image quality I would need something like a 5dm2 with a 50 1.4, which is about $4000. equal image quality for 1/10th the cost, I'm down with that. 3) The way it captures the light is... different. Film has an incredible dynamic range (about 9 stops), the best digital cameras are only about 5 stops. I was scanning some shots today where I shot them overexposed easily by 1-2 stops and they came out just perfectly. 4) Film has character. If you were to take the same shot with 20 different digital cameras the end shot would all look very similar, because of the clinical nature of the format. Film on the other hand has a different characteristic for each type and even for each age / development / etc.
i was rewinding film yesterday and i might have ruined a few shots but overall it's fine. When threading the film i fucked up and it got trapped, meaning it wouldn't rewind
i was rewinding film yesterday and i might have ruined a few shots but overall it's fine. And then when he developed and scanned it he separated the damaged film to do in a different scanner as their normal scanner would damage it further. My local Snappy Snaps seems to provide a very good service :buddy:. after getting my TLR I have become a bit disillusioned with 35mm. It has amazing convenience and its cost pert shot is lower, but the results of medium format are just amazing.

Goddamn that's beautiful, after years of seeing crappy digital black and white conversions, this looks just so much better.

got in my latest batch of developed film, taught my sister how to use my dad's old film camera so I'll be uploading her batch with it as well... but later. Lots of work right now to take care of.
hmm, this seems to have turned out not too bad for my second roll of film what do you guys think? (the quality looks pretty terrible because i had to take a handheld photo of the print :X)
Looks great, especially for a picture of a print. In all honesty though I'm not feeling the content, but it's still really aesthetically pleasing. Boring picture, amazing colors/light.
This is probably going to sound like a dumb question, but does film have an expiration date? I found some Kodak film that's almost definitely from the '80s and put it in my Praktica, and I don't even know if it's going to work because I'm unsure if film expires, mostly because I haven't had to touch film in 7 years so I forgot what little I did know about it.

after a certain length of time the film degrades and the colours will start to to all weird, have shifts, etc, but it will almost certainly still work. the normal expiry date for film is 1-2 years.
oh. so, if I found a 60 year old camera, then the film in it is probably moot by now?
no, the film will most definitely work, it's just that the colours will look strange, That's because colour film is made up of three layers, red green and blue, and each of these layers deteriorate at a different rate. At the end of the day if it doesn't work it has only cost you $5, so who really cares.
Either that or the weird colours give it a unique look.
Either that or the weird colours give it a unique look.
that was a given.
I'm gonna start setting up a darkroom next month, the only thing that'll be work is putting in a sink, the rest should be pretty easy.
