if you want a camera from that era, a Canon AE-1 / AE-1P or Olympus OM1 / OM10 / OM2 / etc would be good, there's also a whole heap of other brands that you could look into which I can't think of right now...
Just a bit sad the AE-1 doesn't have aperture priority. I personally like that quite a lot more than shutter priority(besides the fully manual option ofcourse)
Just a bit sad the AE-1 doesn't have aperture priority. I should get a manual adapter for my OM-10.
Just a bit sad the AE-1 doesn't have aperture priority. I personally like that quite a lot more than shutter priority(besides the fully manual option ofcourse)
My AE-1P has aperture priority, shutter priority, full auto and full manual.
My AE-1P has aperture priority, shutter priority, full auto and full manual.
Yeah but the non-program AE-1 doesn't
Yeah but the non-program AE-1 doesn't
that's why the made the AE-1 Program :v: They're really cameras from different decades with feature sets to match.
that's why the made the AE-1 Program :v: They're really cameras from different decades with feature sets to match.
I know! But I don't have that one! ;D [editline]13th July 2011[/editline] Oh and I'm going to buy a batch of film but I would like some recommendations from which brand/type to buy. It's going to be color. Any suggestions?

that tea set is awesome usually I'd be a little put off by such a shallow DOF on a scene like that but damn you should frame it and sell it to a local coffee shop
Personally I love the second one but don't really like the first at all.
Just bought a few rolls of film. Looks like my Canon 7D has to suck it for a while
got a roll of sensia 200, expired in march 2011 (also apparently discontinued) dunno if i should use it asap, or maybe let it sit for a while and expire some more
lol 3 months expired is nothing, I will doubt you will see any effects on your photos. I've seen / used film 10+ years old and it's come out fine.
I went to get my first roll developed today. And not 5 minutes after I left the shop, they called me back and said my roll was "destroyed." D: And kept using that word. What they meant was, "oops, we tore one of the ridges of the film and now we can't put it in our scanner [it's not a scanner, but that's what she called it], hey want a free roll, bro?" film is exciting, at least.
You should have asked for the 'destroyed' negatives anyway. You could probably still scan them with a decent flatbed scanner.
oh, no, I took them back. even if they had been mangled I would've wanted them back. xD I just have to go out to the suburbs to get them manually developed.
Is there anything you could do other than getting a new free roll? I mean what if you needed those photos for a paying client? The store can't be just like Oh yeah we broke it have a new roll.
I could have thrown a fit. but their policy is damaged roll full of 'priceless' pictures = one new roll. I just didn't expect to put that to the test so soon. xDD if I needed rolls for a paying client, I at least wouldn't have gone to CVS to get them developed. xD it may have been a bad choice on my part, considering I had other options, I didn't want to walk or pay or wait anymore, though.

They could've fucked up the roll of a lifetime for all you know and then just give you a new roll. I think it's just weird.
just got my first (technically second) roll of film back apparently my pentax DOES work, which i'm very happy about. Although there's still something up with the battery compartment so no light meter for me, and I'll have to shoot on 1/125. Oh well I have my EOS 3 for more advanced stuff, which I'm loading film into now. Gonna push some Ilford FP4 125 up to 400 asa [editline]15th July 2011[/editline] I'll post some of my shots when I can be bothered to scan them

How much does using film cost for you guys? Is it actually p'expensive?
How much does using film cost for you guys? Is it actually p'expensive?
Let's say you have a body and lens for 25 euro's. A roll of film costs around 5 euro's(atleast, good quality film). Getting it developed costs about 4. Getting them printed or put on cd costs about another 4 euro's. This really depends on where you live so don't take my word for it. Prices vary a lot but roughly taken, getting a roll developed and put on cd costs about 8 euro's. Again, this is the prive where I live, you might get it done cheaper
Gonna push some Ilford FP4 125 up to 400 asa
Why? FP4 is a beautiful slow speed film, some think that its nominal ISO is more like 75 than 125. It is designed to work perfectly at slow speeds, and people use it as such. For faster speeds (400 and beyond) HP5 is where it's at, which can be pushed to 1600 easily with very acceptable grain. [editline]16th July 2011[/editline]
How much does using film cost for you guys? Is it actually p'expensive?
lets see... the average roll of film cost $4AUD, processing is $2.50AUD and I scan it all myself... The scanner cost $300 initially, but after putting probably 60 rolls through it, that comes out to $5 to scan each roll, which is only going to go down.
How much does using film cost for you guys? Is it actually p'expensive?
My parents had the camera lying around, so no cost on that. Depending, I can get a roll for about $4 and development, 1 set of prints and a CD costs about $7.50. I don't have a film scanner, too expensive, and I don't think anywhere nearby develops only negatives anyways. On the topic of the destroyed roll, I managed to get a roll developed that I'd ripped the film on last 2 shots, like, I physically had managed to tear the film, and the place still managed to develop it.
i have a super 8 camera heres a picture of me with it note that isnt me that from Super 8

Woooo just bought a Pentax ME Super with f/1.7 lens for 37 quid on ebay Never owned a decent camera before so any tips? Also what would be a good cheap film to learn with? Thanks

I bet if I cleaned up the exploded batteries that I could actually record onto the film that's been sitting inside it for some 30 years. Could post pics in the camera/gear thread if people want.
