Oh wow, I just discovered this camera and this photographer. I've been looking through this guys photostream, and goddamn.
I've got a Super8 camera too, it's a Canon Zoom 518. I bet if I cleaned up the exploded batteries that I could actually record onto the film that's been sitting inside it for some 30 years. Could post pics in the camera/gear thread if people want.
wonder how you get super 8 film from there onto a computer
wonder how you get super 8 film from there onto a computer
I think I'd have to get it developed and scanned, likely. My aunt managed to get a bunch of Super8 put on DVD, I could probably find out how if I decided to try using it. However, that's unlikely, as I have a MiniDV camcorder and a Pocket HD Camcorder, so it's not really worth my time to record... anything really in low-fi, no-audio Super8 (Not sure if Super8 supports audio recording, but I know the camera I have doesn't).
I made an advert a while ago, searching for a Canon Eos 3. Just now I had an email from some guy saying he had a eos 3 body in good state and that he wanted to sell it. Best thing is, he said he didn't know a good price so I offered him 40 euros and now await his reply. He wanted 250 euro's. nope nope nope
my Pentax ME Super just arrived! what would be a good cheap film to start off with? Also what would be a reasonable price to pay to get the film developed and put into digital format? Thanks
Fujifilm superia 200 is pretty decent. And I'd say about 7 euro's
7 euros! that's quite a lot, how much does a decent second hand film scanner cost, do you know?
7 euros! that's quite a lot, how much does a decent second hand film scanner cost, do you know?
That's the price around here but that may totally be different from where you are(same goes for the prices of scanners). A decent scanner like the Epson V300/500 or Canoscan 9000 or whatever their numbers are usually cost you about 60-100 euro's second hand. Depending on the model.
Boots do prints for £6 and film-to-CD for £2
Film to CD for £2 sounds good!
A decentish second hand scanner will cost £30-£40, and Boots/Jessops scan to a low resolution to save time. So I would advise to buy your own scanner and save money in the long run, and also have the ability to scan to RAW.# If you buy film on ebay you can easily get something like FP4+ for £3-£4.
what are some good scanners to look out for?
I'm buying a Canon Canoscan 4400F, they get good reviews, and good scans, and are only £80 new so they sell second hand for £30-£40.
How do the flatbed scanners scan film? Like, do you just put the negative where you would normally put paper?
Yeah but there is a holder for the film.
Yeah but there is a holder for the film.
ah right okay
Film to CD for £2 sounds good!
Better go check your local Boots first before taking my word for it, since I still haven't processed any of my film. (Dammit, these rolls seem to never end when you're being careful)
ASDA do it for £3 and the quality is alright
ASDA do it for £3 and the quality is alright
by quality do you guys mean size or just clean-ness or something? I just want it to be big enough for flickr and facebook
by quality do you guys mean size or just clean-ness or something? I just want it to be big enough for flickr and facebook
should be fine http://www.flickr.com/photos/cheesepuff/5881360567/sizes/o/in/photostream/
should be fine http://www.flickr.com/photos/cheesepuff/5881360567/sizes/o/in/photostream/
personally, I think that quality looks pretty shitty because it's really far too grainy (granted, still looks ok at 640px wide) quite badly over-sharpened, but here's a scan I do from a roll of xp2 http://www.flickr.com/photos/jhaslehurst/5623527153/sizes/o/
Just picked up my developed roll. €5.50 Well, time for me to find another store
Just picked up my developed roll. €5.50 Well, time for me to find another store
I can't find anywhere cheaper than £6.40 for dev+scans, or £4 for dev only.
I can't find anywhere cheaper than £6.40 for dev+scans, or £4 for dev only.
where do you live? the snappy snaps that i get my film developed at does dev only for 2.99 i think
I saw at ASDA that they scan up to 200 photos onto a CD for 97p, but I think developing costs a couple of quid on its own
where do you live? the snappy snaps that i get my film developed at does dev only for 2.99 i think
My Snappy Snaps has amazing service but is more expensive than that I think.
I'm gonna take my Peru negs to get them scanned tomorrow I think :)

Shiiit. I have to go to ASDA then. What sort of resolution do they scan them as?
