[QUOTE=cueballv2themax;31646568]why do you get so much more detail in lights on film?

film has higher dynamic range
also sensors have a linear response to light, while film does not

I sort of get what a higher dynamic range is, but what is a 'linear response to light'?
Is it like, a sensor just sees light as whatever colour it is but the film is sensitive to the light itself so it has a different effect?

The output voltage for a pixel will be directly proportional to the number of photons that hit it. Basically if you plotted a graph it will be a straight line. That make sense?

Ah okay, got it
[QUOTE=Alcapwne;31648128]Is the best film camera setup better than the best digital camera setup?
By setup I mean lens and stuff, and in the case of film, film[/QUOTE]
well, it depends if you mean medium format, large format, or even ultra large format. Medium format the hasselblad digitals are better than the film versions (for 40 times more $$), Large format with a good lens and scanned well have better quality than hasselblad digital medium format & ultra large format blows away digital.
A guy is selling his Canon EOS 1000f with two lenses for $77. That would be my first SLR camera ever. Yes/No?

Actually in the last thread I thought you meant 1000D but made a typo, it's still a good deal if its the 1000f, but nothing amazing

Aha, I see. I'll probably be too scared to handle one of those anyway haha. I'd rather want the convenience of DSLR.
Buying it next week.
Edit:
Man I've grown into the old Facepunch. Where the hell is automerge?

I don't think automerge works 6 hours apart
2 hours is the limit
[editline]12th August 2011[/editline]
So you can bump and stuff after a while
[editline]12th August 2011[/editline]
Actually only bump
Automerge used to worry pretty much always back in the day.
whoops look what I accidentally just got

In Soviet Russia... camera shoots you?
Apparently it was lovingly crafted by a communist in the mid 1970s.
CAN I HAVE IT?
i think my grandad had the same camera :v:
does anyone know a guide for the Daguerreotype process and equipment required?
I have the Minolta Maxxum 7000 as well. It is a fantastic camera.
I still use film now and then, but digital is far more convenient.

@Roswell34
I love the colors in these pictures. Any effects/filters or just raw captures? What kind of film are you using?

Protip: read. He's using portra 400.
They look pretty natural too, maybe some white balance correction at the most.
