that was the fuck up, and they scanned them the WRONG WAY ROUND, FUCK
I just ask the local store to print them so I can just scan the photos at home.
But the developing / printing job here is sort of professionally done so there is a very small chance of errors happening.
hey bopie, which film was it that you recommended to overexpose by 2/3 of a stop, ektar or portra?

awesome
I'm using Superia 200 here, do you think her coat has no definition because of the film or the lighting? I mean its pretty bright and well lit everywhere else

it's all in the scanning. The black point has been set too high and clipped the tones in it.

Is there a way to tell the photo processing place to change their settings? Or (if you live in the UK) Do you know of any decent places to get developing done?
asda won't change the settings cos they're fucking shit - but they're dirt cheap

from what I've heard you really need to buy a scanner and do it yourself (anywhere in the world, really). The lab just puts it on full auto and doesn't give a shit.
an Epson V500 would be great, they set you back ~$200, I've got one, and so does bopie and pickwickian. there's also a canon scanner, the CanoScan 9000F that some of my friends have and quite like.
anybody know much about the Konica Minolta DiMAGE Scan Dual IV?

oh well i get mine done at a local lab, so that would be the problem.
Well if you recommend that and there a people that have it that can vouch for it, then i'll look into investing into one of those. Do you think that my photos could have been improved if they were scanned correctly?

hugely, hugely improved. I think that's the biggest thing letting you down right now.
hey bopie, which film was it that you recommended to overexpose by 2/3 of a stop, ektar or portra?
Meaning that having ASA at 166 instead of 100 would give good results? What's the purpose of overexposing?
hugely, hugely improved. I think that's the biggest thing letting you down right now.
I'm going to ask for the Epson V500 for christmas (or just buy it sooner) and then i'll scan them again and post them here. I think that sounds like the best option for me so far.

That would underexpose.
Overexposure causes color shifts and changes in saturation.
I've come to prefer a more balanced exposure now, though.

Right?
no, they're intresting.
if you like cars and you photograph a car, does that mean you get a hard-on when you see a merc?

I know I do.
I know I do.
thats me fucking scared
my next assignment for class seems to be a bit more open ended. We weren't required any amount of rolls or shots taken in total (thank god), so I'm gonna try and use my TLR for it. Requirement is: 3 photos and a short essay, it's a portrait assignment and the idea is to do more than just a headshot, IE capture a look that helps describe them.
I have an awesome idea for a photo but at the same time, I don't really know the girl all too well like I do most of my friends, so the essay would be rough to describe with my past experiences with them. Maybe I can make it into an interview kinda thing and turn it into learning about the person, because I want the photos to be a triptych and show a balance of outward appearance, how they see themselves, and the middle ground of how she's almost forced to define herself

Good scanners. Way better than any flatbed you can get unless you shoot 120 format.
Only downside is the driver support, it won't work on anything higher than Windows XP. Or you have to use vuescan.
So I just got a shitload of darkroom stuff to use for developing film and creating prints.
I just need the liquids and a new developer tank

I'm considering buying my own dev tank, even if I'm only using it at the college lab. the ones at the school are absolute shit, and all of the rubber lids are chewed up to hell and back from people forcing them onto the top but not fitting it down right. Most of them leak like a sieve, and take 20-30 seconds to even get them to firmly mount onto the tank which makes me nervous since the first 30 seconds of most of the steps involve agitating the chemical around the tank so that it gets on the film nice and evenly
