Thanks buddy. Had to edit out quite a few scratches and dust etc. How do you guys handle your negatives for scanning? I need some tips for next time
What I do is when I shot a roll is, I take it out of the camera and immediately put it into one of those negative sleeves. Before I did that, I put them in a bag. If you want to scan them just take them out and handle them on the outer edges. Preferrably, dust the scanning area a bit before you put the negatives on.
Film can be a fantastically self rewarding challenge. It's much more hands on and personal than digital, and can yield great results that you can't do with digital photography. It also, unfortunately, is a breeding ground for artsy fartsy "photogs" who use film as a coverup for their lack of basic compositional skills. Just because something looks noisy and noncontrasty (or very contrasty, depending) doesn't make it "good", especially if it doesn't even really have a subject. Of course, from there one could argue that the medium is the subject, but that's another story entirely. my $.02
indeed, though film is less of a fallback now, as much as shooting digital and just desaturating or throwing preset filters on stuff to make it look classic filmy. There's always a coverall style people will do if all else fails them, nomatter the medium. It'd be bad to look down on the format as a whole because of the gimmmicky few who float up on top also welcome to the forum, nice to see a fresh person with a good two cents to share.

I'm looking to get into film, and I was wondering if a Nikon f55 was a good option to start with?
I'm looking to get into film, and I was wondering if a Nikon f55 was a good option to start with?
I don't see why not.
seems rather beefy and would probably feel comfortable to start with given it's built like most modern DSLRs. If you want autofocus and find it cheap, I don't see why not, but it seems very geared toward being an automatic camera. I'd honestly suggest aiming for an older body. I think I speak for a lot of the film shooters here when I say there's just something about using older bodies like the Nikon FE, Canon AE-1, Pentax ME, and such. The feel of manually advancing each frame, the mechanical functionality and necessity for manual control is quite the break from shooting digital, which I think you'd lack with the N55.
I recommend the n5005 because it's the only body I've used
I recommend the Pentax MX because every time you use the light meter it's a technicolour magic show.
just bought a pentax me super for a friend £20

Uhmmm, free. Background story: My math tutoring teacher was clearing out his attic and found a bag with these boys in it, and he said that he also had a eos camera laying around somewhere there (most likely a eos 1000 or so with 28-80mm lens), that's the reason that the 80-200 lens is included. He knew that photography was my hobby, so he gave it to me for free :)
