Trip to Jersey. All taken on a unnamed 400 iso black and white film my friend picked up really cheaply: Untitled by edwin.quast, on Flickr Untitled by edwin.quast, on Flickr Untitled by edwin.quast, on Flickr Untitled by edwin.quast, on Flickr Untitled by edwin.quast, on Flickr Untitled by edwin.quast, on Flickr Untitled by edwin.quast, on Flickr Untitled by edwin.quast, on Flickr Untitled by edwin.quast, on Flickr

Got suggestions for edit of colours? I haven't really done a lot of post-processing, but I do know PS. [editline]9th February 2012[/editline] Black and white looks much better to me. Thanks for pointing out the obviously dull colours. Bit too much blue on the upper part but you get the general idea.
a bit overexposed in the brighter parts, but looking at it on a black background, i'm kind of liking that actually
Is it a no-no to turn colour exposed film in to B/W ?
it's a no-no if you only desaturate the picture and nothing else, heh.
Bit too much blue on the upper part but you get the general idea.
Thanks, but that does not represent how the sky looked that day. If you add colour that was never there, I'd never feel it was a genuine photograph. [editline]9th February 2012[/editline]
it's a no-no if you only desaturate the picture and nothing else, heh.
Well I didn't. It could use a bit more contrast I guess though..
looks nicer in b/w, but i'd say up the contrast a tad.
I'm going on a skiing trip over spring break and I was going to take my film camera with me whilst on the slopes. Will my film or the camera be affected by the cold weather? [editline]editline[/editline] I'm using a Minolta X-700 and planning on using Superia 200.

And the minolta x700 would be fine too; it's not mechanical though, but it is made for such conditions and the electronics would most likely not malfunction.

Bought 10 rolls of Portra 400 120 to get back into film shooting, hopefully I can get a Zenza that isn't half wrecked unlike last time. Has anyone in UK had experiences with boots in regards to film processing? Its only a Kodak funsaver roll but I want decent results at least.
Dropped off my two rolls of film at walmart and they said it would take a week and told me they would call me after a week also. That was supposed to be today and I got no call so I called them and asked about it. They haven't came in yet. Gah.

black and white conversion tutorial (using a plugin, but it might spark interest in the program) http://www.popphoto.com/how-to/2012/02/software-workshop-niks-silver-efex-pro-2 also I only shot film this weekend, caught a huge quarry whilst driving, with icicles as wide as a semi truck each, formed by water pouring out of the layers of earth exposed on a deep, straight carved cliff. I hope they come out, it was somewhat hazy out and the distance didn't help
My dad gave me his old Pentax Program Plus with a 50mm prime lens (f/1.7). I've already taken like 30 or so photos. Can't wait to see how they come out. Luckily I was able to practice with my DSLR first.
i just want people to take b/w photos initially instead of converting them. 90% of the time they look better in color, even the shot in the tutorial looks much better in color.
shooting color with b/w in mind helps, and being able to change the color filter digitally is a major bonus. If I shoot b/w on my digital, I'll set it to RAW+JPG so I can keep a copy straight out or play with conversion, there's usually some tweaking I like better than what I can get straight out of shooting b/w, but- oh wait when did this turn into the film thread hmm anyways, shooting b/w film is probably easiest if you're looking for b/w, but if you have the time and resource to play with conversion in one way or another it can be worth the tweaking.
