I got a roll of medium format film back from the lab. I mainly used it for testing my 'new' bronica. Most of my pictures came out ok but these didn't: Anyone know what this is? It looks like those stains you get when your flash can't synchronize with you camera's shutterspeed. They are visible on the film too, not just on the scans
its not a stain, its your shutter curtain. you might have a sticky shutter.
its not a stain, its your shutter curtain. you might have a sticky shutter.
I know it's not a stain, just didn't know how to explain it ;) But yeah that could be it. I'll look into it sometime, maybe the oil has dried up
I really dig this one, minus the dark area at the top. Also, I was having the same issue with my Zenit, though, it wasn't the curtain, it was the mirror. It wasn't moving around too much, so my step-dad and I had to re-set the mirror by making a few minor adjustments.
Does anyone know the focal length conversion from 35mm to medium format? I know that on a cropped sensor DSLR, the conversion is like, a 35 on a cropped frame is the same as a 50 on a full frame/35mm. So, what's a 70mm lens on a medium format camera equal to on a 35mm camera?
120 size film, 6cm^2 frame.
A 70mm lens on that format is about equivalent to a 45mm lens on a 35mm camera.

Just got this beauty in yesterday: I'm going to be using it with an old Argoflex E I found at school: I'm in an analog photography class and everyone was picking out nice automated SLRs, I found a camera from the 1940's that takes film that isn't made any more (620 film) and said "welp, I'm going to get my own film, a light meter, and I'm going to make this work." I've got my 120 film that can hopefully be respooled and my light meter, next week I can take it all out and see what I get <3. I'm really excited. As a side note, I tested the light meter with my DSLR on manual and it gave me a perfect exposure based on the light. The Weston Master V was made in 1965, the D5100 was made in 2011. It's sort of amazing that two pieces of technology in the same family but made 46 years apart can still work together very nicely.

I can't find any useful instructions on google to fix it sadly which sucks because I was going to use it but now I won't take the risk if there's a chance the pictures come out bad. ;(
i have quite a few rolls of film setting on my desk. they've been ran through my Zenit TTL, Yashico Electro 35 GT, and my Canon AE-1P, will be posting shots once I get them developed. Be prepared to critique the living shit out of my work.
Developed the negatives of the pictures I took with the Argoflex today! Holy shit I can't tell you guys how good it feels that these turned out. I was kind of flying by the seat of my pants trying to figure everything out, nobody really ever said "You should do this this way." It was all of my own research and initiative and it just feels... incredibly gratifying that these turned out well on the first go around. Can't wait to do enlargements tomorrow c:
Just bought another Zenit TTL to replace my broken one. (It cost £8.01) And I also bought 5 rolls of Ferrania 100 iso from Germany for £8 (ish)
First enlarged picture from the Argoflex. I apologize for the wetness, I hadn't hung it up to dry and I needed to leave school so I just took a quick iPhone picture.
Nikon F100. Neatish
guys, any opinions on illford b&w 400 and 100? getting some to use for a project in school, developing myself and such
Paper or film? I've been using 120 Illford 400 film for a while and never had any problems or complaints with it. The paper is a bit meh, I haven't worked with it much but I wasn't super happy with the enlargements I did do. I use Adorama's paper currently and that seems to work well, it has a nice tone and is easy enough to work with.
Film:) and thanks :D not sure whether we'll be printing but definitely developing
Well finally got a roll of B&W to develop properly, my one camera must be having shutter issues... Here's what I liked most from the roll, any tips and or criticism? New to this B&W thing. I'll get there eventually.
C&C would be awesome everyone I have had several rolls of film lying in a cupboard for a month at least (Some are from last weekend or so) Hawthorn upload 05/09/12 by CommunistWolf, on Flickr Hawthorn upload 05/09/12 by CommunistWolf, on Flickr Hawthorn upload 05/09/12 by CommunistWolf, on Flickr Hawthorn upload 05/09/12 by CommunistWolf, on Flickr And this one was off a week or so ago Light trails by CommunistWolf, on Flickr
finally set up my developing chemicals and worked up my first three rolls of film (120 and 2 35). Buying adorama's cheap steel reels has bit me in the butt, they were impossible to load (took 45 minutes just to fit both 35's) and still when I thought I got it right, it turns out the sides were craptacularly spaced and crunched the edges of the film into bacon squiggles for about 75% of it, then at the outside it was so wide that both reels collapsed in the same spots, making me lose three frames at the same spot on both rolls. Bad news is one of those rolls was for a photoshoot and the other was for my boss. OK news was the frames I think were just duplicate shots, and good news is the camera I restored for my boss shot beautifully. I just gotta figure out how to scan with these bacon strip edges, gonna be hard to set them in the scanning tray methinks
You should get one of these (which can expand to fit 120 film) which load into one of these They are killer. It took me ~5 minutes to get my first 35mm roll onto one of those and only 20 minutes to get a 120 roll on! But now that I'm practiced, I'm predicting that one could get what you loaded (actually, I'm going to be developing exactly that tomorrow- 1 120 and 2 35's, I'll tell you how it goes) on in less than five minutes in complete darkness with practice. Container is light-safe once you get it all together, it works very nicely and has a funnel built in for chemicals.
I hated the plastic reels, the [good] steel reels I used back in class were godly, took barely a minute to glide the film on. That's why I bought these, thinking they were the same. Turns out I need the name-brand reels ($25 instead of 7, $37 for 120 instead of like 12), which have the proper sprocket grabbing thing instead of an overly tight wire clip in the center I also preferred the steel tank, but that's more of a design thing I guess.
I bought a bunch of Hewes reels, found some good deals on ebay for them. Took me no time at all to get the film on, and that was with no prior experience... From what I've read they'll pretty much last you forever, and everyone else loves 'em.

Given 2 35's and a 120 of the stuff would cost ~$90 new, I backed off and bought the basic junk to pinch a penny. Oh well, I lost maybe 25 bucks in total out of that deal, and I've made some cash since.

Did you get a scan back and then process that on the computer? The colors and contrast are really good. Also, I really like how generally forgiving film is as long as you get developing times and exposure right. Today was the second time it took 20 minutes of man-handling to get my 120 film onto theto the developing reel, during which I creased it slightly, touched the undeveloped film itself at several points and in various places, even dropping it on the school's filthy darkroom floor two or three times where I had to get down and feel around for it, and even though all that went down, once I finally got it on the developing reel and developed it it turned out fine, except for some creased edges on the film. Oh well. But really, getting 120 onto a developing reel is a fucking nightmare. I don't think I'll ever quite have the right feel for that and it will just be arduous every time.
