has anyone hinted at buying up kodak's manufacturing yet, or is there other news about that
Isn't "Kodak Professional Ektar" basically the same thing...?

Kodak Professional is the manufacturer of all kodak films?
Kodak Professional is the manufacturer of all kodak films?
No, that's Eastman Kodak Corporation. Kodak Professional is their "Pro" line of film, which consists of Ektar, Portra, Elite Chrome, TMax, Tri-X and some other types of film that I might have forgotten.

Right. Talking about that I saw a film camera concept store today. Its a good concept for that guy to promote film cameras and other vintage camera stuffs. But the price, oh my. I saw a roll of Superia 400 going for like, $25 each.
I think it's going to be someone will buy the film patents and the factories and either keep making it under the Kodak name or call it something new. Without a doubt there is money to be made from Portra at the very least.

We sell 3 packs of superia 400 for AU$18. I haven't used any other film, but I know it's not the greatest in terms of quality (love the colours it gets compared to a digital sensor though)
At today's prices, you can get this with a bunch of lenses for like $20
prices have gone up quite a bit since 2008, and they are only going to increase.
once FF mirrorless cameras come out and resellers take note of them, prices should go up.

Yeah its the best thing i've ever bought insurance in the uk is insane (no idea if its the same in america) but to insure that its £280 a year and its so damn cool, that photo is from the day i got it.
35mm black and white. i'm currently taking a course.
if there's a point over the weekend where i don't feel to lazy i need to upload my portfolio anyways so...
but basically it started like the subforums subtitle. taking pictures of my backyard and my neighborhood. this sounds pretty shit but considering how awesome this area is they're all pretty good shots. I'm done with my entire town except like 3-4 secret spots i know of i never got a chance to shoot. there might be more secret spots in my town but i don't know exactly if these spots are in my town or an adjacent one. but all this was basically me practicing with an almost bare sort of subject, as i live in the suburbs and really it's all foliage and architecture and trails and shit. plus my town is a pretty lazy one as far as they come so i could just shoot a neighboring town and probably have shots that are 100x more dynamic than the shit i've been doing.
also i have access to a studio as well as a darkroom and superdark rooms for processing raw film. i do much every aspect of producing a photo from exposing the film, to processing the reels into negatives, to exposing the negatives to print paper, then a series of baths and rinse and all that shit. i find the end result extremely satisfying because besides actually making the film and the camera i do fucking everything. so when I hold the photos in my hand it feels more like a little baby, something i created essentially from scratch. something that started with a vision and my gut instinct telling me i have a good shot, to holding this piece of print paper with my vision burned right into the surface. it's indescribable, but i bet most people who shoot oldstyle like i do share this exact appreciation for final prints, especially after you've cropped and mounted the print.
I've already gone through periods of not shooting and developing (breaks and shit) and i do start to get fuckin edgy and shit. i'm convinced i'm addicted to photography, not just taking pictures, but the entire process. like the chemicals required for processing all mostly have a pungent smell. but as soon as i get a single wiff of any one of the chemicals i feel home (plus for some reason i just love the smell now). i actually think i feel more at home inside a darkroom with the lights out, safety lights on and printing negatives than i do sitting in my chair here.
Makes me yearn for a darkroom to use. I've only ever worked in one back in high school and although we only did some pinhole work back then, the whole nitty gritty process just makes me so fascinated.
Got my negs back from when I went to the east coast of australia for 3 weeks, gotta scan these 9 rolls over the weekend.
Well, I just made a nice deal. 59 rolls of 120 film and 47 rolls of 135 film; all of them for 100 euro.
Now I'll won't need to buy new film for the next year or so.

wow, wish i could get deals like that. happy shooting.

it NEVER gets old.
printing days i'm practically waiting for school to come.
oh yeah, and weed+printing in a darkroom listening to ipod = awesome.
but yeah it seems that color can be developed in the light somehow and only black and white needs to be done in the dark. but all the equipment for a darkroom and the chems and everything, i'm just really glad that i have access to one. logistically you need an entire system for a darkroom to work. you need water pumps, water coolers and heaters depending upon the temperature... it's all a very delicate balance. i notice that my prints actually turn out different day by day just because the mix or temperature was off by a tiny bit.
where's best to get black and white film developed and scanned in the uk? anyone?
are you so young you've never heard of one hour photo huts and kiosks inside bigger stores?
if you're looking for the best you're most likely going to have to do regional research for your own region. otherwise any photo hut or whatever is good enough most likely.
of course i have! i usually use asda and have been really satisfied with them (£3 for development and a cd) but they don't offer black and white processing so where would be the best place to head?
anyone?! I've looked into jessops and they don't seem a good option, the local camera mart offer it for £12 all round, anyone think this is worth the cost?
Just found out my uni's storeroom (where we can load tonnes of different camera stuff) has Hasselblad 500C's to loan
droooooooooooool.
So people I've just got my developing tank, whats a good Black and white film and developer to start with? (preferably in 120)
So after four months without shooting using a camera seems foreign to me. Anybody have any good guides for basics(getting the best lighting, getting a certain atmosphere, good composition, rules/tricks, etc.)? I guess it doesn't help that I didn't do much research before.

Not the greatest resource, but definitely quite helpful. Covers exposure estimation with sunny 16 as well, depending on your light meter situation.

Shot on Fuji Superia color film and developed in B/W chems, scanned with my dslr and pushed 6 stops in pp since it was dark and if i made for longer exposure the light started bleeding.
The film is so dense that under an enlarger it took 5 minutes and at f/3.5 to get a correctly exposed photo.
creepy looking, i dig it
Parents bought me 16 rolls of Kodak Super Gold 400.
Looks like I can now take pictures for fun without sacrifising my extremely small stock of Ektars. I really love ektars.
Super gold isn't bad. I prefer superia 400 but they are close enough to not be really different
