If you live in the UK poundland film is the best, for the US Fuji Superia for 400 ISO, and I like Kodak Gold for 200 ISO. All are cheap films but good quality
yeah, that newer poundland one (agfa) is surprisingly good
many thanks! I'll check out the film at my nearest poundland.

Nope, they never came :(
I've been dying to get my second roll of b&w devolped and get my camera back so I can shoot my first roll of color.
It has been a while since I've posted so I'll bring everyone up to speed, I've got some new cameras (Nikon F, Nikon F3 and a Canon AV-1), I learned how to develop my own film, and I've done some trespassing. So first of all some photos from my Canon AV-1 (Boots ISO 200 film) Never used a film camera but picked one of these bad boys up over Christmas Will post the pictures once I have finished my first film C: *it's black and white wooooo*
Just got a Olympus superzoom105G for 30p, yay!
I'm very new to film and photography in general so I would like some pointers and I have some questions. I'd really like to learn more about the basics of photography as so far I've just been experimenting with how I shoot. I don't even really have much of a feel for how the photos will turn out. First off I shot these using a Canon AE-1 Program and a 35-70mm Canon macro lens. This one is my favorite, though I wish I hadn't cropped as much of the keyboard out of the shot as I did. To me it almost looks like a clipping from a 70's computing magazine or something. I was going for a completely different look than how it came out though. Out of an 8 shot roll of film those turned out the best. With the first three I was trying to emulate styles that interest me a little while figuring out how macro lenses work. I'm really just experimenting with my grandfathers old camera, I have a few other lenses to play around with as well. A Tokina 80-200mm, Canon 75-200mm, and a Canon 50mm. Anything I should change or try? Got a few rolls of 24 this time so I'm pretty eager to see what I can do. I'd also like to know when it comes to film what does "shooting the leader" mean? I heard someone say they did that to squeeze in a couple more shots on a roll but I'm not sure how to go about doing that.
I am kind of still learning about different types of film, I always knew there were some that were definitely more renowned for their tones and such but never actually took the jump into investing in anything other than the general Kodak brand we sell at my workplace. Currently looking into ordering some Portra NC 100 etc because I hear it's really good film for portraits, skin tones. My question is. What are some other really good brands of film that would be useful for say landscapes and portraits?
Ektar is more saturated and contrastier than porta. Both are great films though
I've found Portra outdoes Ektar in overcast regardless, and while Portra can handle direct sunlight very well, I prefer the contrast and general performance of Ektar in direct sunlight.
Honestly with film I'd say just get a couple rolls of a bunch of different types, and decide what you like best yourself. We can tell you the differences all you like, but in the end it comes down to your personal opinion on what looks best. I like Ektar, but haven't used Portra that much, keep meaning to buy a roll or two of medium format. It's a pain though, I'm really liking the ease of just developing B&W myself.
I am sending my camera off to get calibrated as the AF isn't cooperating properly with my Sigma 30mm 1.4. During this time I will be trying out some different types of film and kind of exploring the film side of photography. I guess it's just a matter of personal preference. I'll try out some Ektar and Portra.
If you live in the UK then go to Poundland and get some of their film, its brilliant!

High chances are that if you let the body calibrated to the lens, your camera will only focus correctly with the Sigma and no other lenses and that is not what you want.
Pretty sure Sigma lenses are notorious for having manufacturing defects leading to uncalibrated focus.
It's more of a problem with specific lenses, like the 30mm f1.4, I don't hear about it much with their other zooms n such. Newer lenses have gotten much better in quality control (the ones without that god awful sigma plastic stuff), hopefully they will ramp up quality for all lenses soon. And yes frag is right, it's important you send them both as focusing lies with the camer AND lens. Specific combinations will have different results, which is why there is no magic micro adjusting measurements
Yeah right now I have the AF settings changed in DEBUG mode on my camera to work in accordance to the 30mm. So if I put on any other lens and use AF it's completely inaccurate.
My 30mm 1.4 focuses perfectly on my D50. Really struggles with the D7000 though... Maybe it's all those extra AF points? [editline]18th January 2013[/editline]
If you live in the UK then go to Poundland and get some of their film, its brilliant!
The new AGFA stuff is very versatile and I completely swear by it; But don't ever bank on capturing that shot the way you intended using this film.
most of my photographs have been taken on AFGA, it's so brilliant! what do you mean by that??

Developed a roll of HP5+(35mm) and Pan F+(120) today. Also got a box camera to play with, hope to have another few rolls by the time I go back to school, which is when I get to scan em...
Anybody have a suggestion of what film would be good for x-ray exposures? Ie as far as Iso, I heard proper x-ray film is expensive.
Anybody have a suggestion of what film would be good for x-ray exposures?
