just looking around, it seems that xray film is cheaper per sheet than photographic sheet film, per sheet
also it seems people are saying that if you use xray film for photos, Green Sensitive is equivalent to about ISO 80 or so in sensitivity, so i guess you could work backwards from that
what are you planning on doing anyway? sounds intriguing
Really? I'll have to look around then.
I built an X-ray machine out of an old vacuum tube rectifier and an induction coil. I wanted to photograph (technically radiograph?) household objects, fruit, minerals, perhaps even camera itself.
Another interesting thing is to photograph hands holding things, like pens or what have you, though I have to first determine how long an exposure is and how dangerous it would be.
eg.

afaik modern xrays also use phosphors to get the same exposure using a lower dose, so i'd be really careful about exposing bodyparts like this
hope you've got sufficient shielding as well

Yes, I have plenty of lead shielding, and have methods to determine dose rates. I'm not interested in doing it if it's over 50 microsieverts, about 5x dental x-ray.
It's very dangerous, yes, but if it's well shielded and I only expose my hand very briefly it wont be that detrimental to my health. I probably get more exposure from handling radioactive materials & minerals in a year than I will get from a single exposure of this machine.
Last measurements indicate about 50-60 microsieverts per second using a pen dosimeter, which is said to be +- 20 percent, and agrees with a calibrated detector. (technically 5-6 mili-roentgens, but accuracy is not needed here)
So if it truly is bright enough with low energy x-rays filtered out (<30 kV, identified with spectroscopy) then I'll switch it briefly on and off using a remote control, once and only once. I need to investigate the method of x-ray photography that outputs the most light, which as you mentioned
can significantly reduce the dose needed.
As a side note, radiographs using radioactive sources might work as well for taking photos of things, since some are point sources, which is something I might try as well. NOT my hand though. I'll post when I've developed the film.
it seems like it might be a bit hard to get x-ray film not in bulk (usually comes in 100 sheet boxes for ~$90-100)
i guess to start out you could also try some medium format black and white iso 400 film at various exposures, see where that gets you, maybe some ilford hp5 or something, it's not that expensive, and big enough to get an image of something interesting

I'll give that a try. I won't be x-raying things until next week since I zapped my transformer, but then I'll post back with results as I said. I think it will be interesting to find out what film works best, and
hopefully somewhat easy to access film will suffice.
Ideally, I want to be using a phosphor screen with a digital camera, but film is a good start I think.
well, whatever happens, you should post your results here!

This may be a really weird question, but is it possible to user newer lenses for Nikon houses, on older ones?
I got a Nikon FM and I would love to get a wider lens, but I can't really find any of the older ones.

Or well. At least I can find some on eBay for a fairly price.
Developed another roll with some shots from Cerventes and here's a couple that I thought looked pretty nice

Hey guys, what's the best way to store a negative for the most longevity? At the moment I just keep them in the film canisters, sitting in my room on top of a cupboard, which I know can't be the best for them.
I probably wouldn't want to go as far as having a fridge setup, but are there other ways to minimise time-related damage?
Just put them in the fridge, otherwise it's not a big deal film lasts a few years.
Just put them in a sandwich baggy and toss them in

that second picture is eerie, i like it
it looks like a horror movie poster, nice!
also, heard through the grape vine that poundland are cutting stock of the film they sell, went to get some more today and was thinking of buying them out of their shop floor stock so i had lots for when they stopped selling it.. there was three boxes FULL on the shop floor, each with 200 rolls in!
I asked if it was the last of their stock and was informed that it was indeed not, they just had had a lack of stock due to shipping issues or something, so instead of spending £600 on film i just bought 5 rolls :-)
Can anyone recommend where I can buy some Fujifilm ASA/ISO400 35mm near Denmark?
I found those http://www.technikdirekt.de/main/en/foto/foto-analog/filme-analog/553292/-/article--5-fujifilm-superia-x-tra-400-135-24.html? but I am not sure if it's a good price :v:
I've just started film photography (Or photography overall). I have already got my first ISO200 developed, but I think I might do better with 400.

why?
why?
I find myself to be in a few low light situations more. It's not really a sunny season either.
But if you could recommend me to just use 200 instead, then do tell why! - As stated, I am still trying to get into photography.
[editline]1st February 2013[/editline]
I understand that I can be totally wrong. I do know that.
But more to the point. Where is the best place to buy for my situation?
maybe try some ISO 800, especially if you're ending up indoors with fairly dim lighting
200 to 400 is only one stop of a difference, which isn't much
I got my first roll of transparency film developed and scanned and I am pretty happy with the results. This was Provia 400X, but I think I might look into some Velvia next time just because I don't want to pay $40 a roll whenever I want to shoot transparencies.
These were shot at a place I call Mt Milo around 6-7am as the sun was coming up.

here's a roll i shot august-january
used my A-1 with a 35-70 f4 for most of it, and a 50mm f1.4 for the shallower shots (i like the chrome ring on the front). i think my A-1 has light leaks, guess it's back to the ae-1p oh well. used kodak c-41 processing b&w film, i quite like it but next time it's going in my 9xi for shallower DoF

Got a couple rolls of films containing my take on Landscape photography, which I extremely suck at. I have yet to develop them. Hopefully at least 1 in every 10 picture reaches a 'decent' level.
