Amusing excerpts from the 2000 edition of the DK "FUTURE" book. My, how far we've come in 10 years.

Free energy might make a world even a better place. Wars for energy won't exist if everyone has free energy.

There's still other things to fight out.

we have the second best thing, but hypocrites blaming reactors that were long overdue on being decommisioned are severly halting that idea.
fuck yeah CANDU & thorium though
~ViRtuaL~
And then everything related to technology will be super expensive. HUD Glasses only for 10 000$!
I remember reading this book in the public library when I was a kid.
Good god do I feel old now... :frown:
Half the things on that list are done by phones.
Still no hoverboards.

There are many free energy generators, some of those are so simple there are DIY tutorials over the internet. Tesla also invented many free energy generators, but when he died he had no relatives so US government took his documents, those documents were released 90 years later by some scientists who though that free energy should be publicized. Now many people are replicating Tesla's inventions / doing their own version. Also Tesla claimed Sun is positively charged and Earth is negatively charged, and made generators that rely on that. He also claimed that aether existed while Einstein said that he is wrong. Aether, radiant energy or whatever you call it, is energy, which is everywhere, and could be used to generate electricity for free.

too bad the energy companies are bullying every alternative energy researchers into scrapping everything.
And they thought there would be flying cars in the year 2000...

there is still hope, with internet and all, you can spread information about it (DIY plans), build your one, and so on. I am currently building one, but I am missing one part and whole project stopped. When I am done and if shit actually works, I am gonna show it to folks. ...
Amazing..

It looks like user error
All that and more is true, but what I'm saying is
a) it's not as good as was predicted in 2000
b) it won't last for long if those numerous bills to censor and restrict the internet go through.
The internet is gradually becoming less globalised and more regionalised. For example, Iran is working on its own, closed off version of the internet so its citizens can't access the outside world. China has its Great Firewall. Australia is trying to block sites left, right and centre.
Furthermore, the part about being able to see atrocities committed in backwaters on the other side of the planet doesn't do much good either. What can you do if you're just sat behind a computer screen?
True, but this stuff seems insignificant compared to the problem in 3rd world countries.
Yes it sucks not to have a limitless supply of information, but I reckon it's far worse knowing you can't get clean water from a tap.
That scanner shower seems really relaxing.
I can't wait to shower in radiation.

What the shit?
Looks like something they could have made in the 20s. 1920s.

Energy won't be free for as long as it's a limited resource. Even if we did suddenly discover a bottomless source of clean energy, we couldn't switch to it any time soon because the entire world's infrastructure rests on the shoulders of oil. Oil prices effect nearly every aspect of your financial life; food, leisure, travel, your average income, and everything in between is driven by the oil market.
So, to revise my original statement: energy won't be free for as long as the world depends on oil, and rebuilding the infrastructure of our entire society is no quick task.

If we're going to talk about futuristic buildings, lets take the trump hotel into consideration.

Looks like it's based on this:

So yeah, it basically is. Except the pictured one has two fuselages and a central bridge type thing like an airship or something.

Looks more like a large version of the Russian K-7:

They actually built one of these, and it flew several times.

Well, I'll give him props for the fact that everything but the design is dead on, though interestingly, video phoning never really gained that much popularity.
