Not sure I even want to see this anymore. The fact it's only in 3D where I am and for miles around is fucking pathetic.
It's worth it even in 3D.
I actually loved it. Inspired me to start buying the 2000AD comics again.
I want to watch the movie with friends but they are so retarded its not even funny. They keep comparing this with the Stallone one.
i really liked this movie.

aint even in the same fuckin league
why does anyone even bother remembering that piece of shit
because it's, "LOL FUNNY I AM TEH LAW XD"
i'm honestly really annoyed that this movie is bombing so hard
it deserves so much better
It's such a shame this film is a flop. Can't say I'm surprised though. Not a huge amount of marketing, no really well known actors, it's the director's debut so he has no name, it's an indie film, and Dredd isn't that popular in the US- only really big in the UK afaik, so people didn't really care- and, it's an 18. So the only people who would see it were people who were already fans of (or at least knew about and were interested in) Dredd/2000AD. There was no chance for kids to go see it cos it looked like some big popcorn action film, which also meant no parents getting dragged along to see it, which means two massive chunks of money gone right away, purely because of the certificate. And that's where most films make their money in the box office nowadays. Honestly, the rating doomed it to failure, which actually makes me admire them being willing to still make it. They had serious balls.
Not only did it really deserve to make its money back, I feel this means 2 things- no sequels, and no more 18/R-rated comic book movies (including Deadpool)
The only reason Dredd was able to take the risk of being an R was because it's an indie film and didn't have a big company looming over them restricting them.
Deadpool is not an indie movie, but it's still penned to be an R-rated comic book movie. Since Dredd's flopped I have a feeling Fox will not be willing to take the risk via being a greedy disgusting company who only give a shit about making money. They're not going to make a film that won't make money.
I'm not saying this WILL happen, but it's just my thoughts and possible repercussions from Dredd flopping.
Dredd took a risk and it failed. Hopefully Fox keep going with an 18 Deadpool (because if it isn't an 18 it'll be terrible) but it's unlikely, imo. If they do keep pushing for an 18 it needs to be a success or there won't be any 18/R comic book movies for a LONG time because no one will make them due to them not being marketable.

The most recent punisher flopped badly as well, which was an 18 comic book movie. It's just not proving to be a winning formula.
Is it necessary to watch read any of the previous Dredd franchise before seeing this?
You don't really need to know anything since the entire situation is given an overview at the start of the film via monologue.
also, another thing that makes me sad about no sequel- the the director said he wanted the sequel to more explore Dredd as a bad guy- The Judges are fascists and Megacity 1 is a police state. I think that'd be a cool concept to explore. Could make for a lot of interesting moral conflictions, commentaries etc
the problem with 18+ comic book movies is that they're usually about comic books the general mass don't know/read. like who the fuck actually read the punisher?
well watchmen did pretty well but it had some insane marketing behind it
Watchmen was a flop, it cost 135 million to make and earned a mere 185 million.
That's nothing.

I did.
The biggest problem with the Punisher movies thus far has been the fact that they were all abysmal.
The R-rating isn't the problem, A History of Violence, Kick-Ass and Sin City were all rated R and they made bank like nobody's business.
Dredd seems to be flopping pretty hard, but it's not because of the rating.
It's still probably gonna be a decent enough success on DVD but yeah, a sequel is probably completely out of the question.

The problem was the trailers were shocking. I was going purely based on reviews and word of mouth.
Welp, Went to see Looper with my retarded friends that I mentioned last post but tickets were sold out.
Fortunately I talked them into watching Dredd and I must say, This was a beautiful movie. Definitely one of my favorites of the year.
I really need to get the soundtrack

I know this video is old
I actually didn't know about the movie until people started talking about it. Went to see it with some friends, it was really good. It deserved much more than the 3 other groups of people in the theater. I'd say go see the 3D version too, it didn't feel gimmicky at all.
Fucking AMAZING movie.
This is definitely going down as a cult classic. No doubt.
Probably one of the most gritty and violent action movies I have ever seen, I love the reimagined mega city 1, a lot more poverty stricken, polluted, greyish concrete style of a city. This movie really brings out the violence and gruesomeness of a very poor area where you don't know if you are going to live one day or die the next. The gangs actually feel evil and brutal and merciless. And Judge Dredd doesn't fuck around, I love how quick and clean his methods are, no stylish shit.
The set and background design was absolutely amazing, I actually really like the new Judge costumes too. It has this unique dystopian violence filled atmosphere that I haven't seen in other movies.
It follows the comics so closely, yet manages to be new and fresh. This movie is a prime example of taking source material and making new and awesome creative choices without fucking ruining it.
I would still love to see a movie like this but with the actual setting and design of the comics though.
I wish it was playing at my theatre :(
Fucking loved this movie.
Karl Urban man, he fucking nailed it. I never thought much of him because he always seem to be getting typecast into these terribad action flicks (doom, pathfinder, priest etc) but this confirmed to me what critics have been saying about him for ages. The comparisons to a clint eastwood spaghetti western type performance were pretty spot on, although I'd say he's a better actor overall than clint was.
But his physically driven performance is made all the more impressive by the fact he never takes the helmet off, most actors have a fucking hissy fit if they can't have scenes where the camera can see their face.
The girl (Olivia Trilby I think???) was better than I expected too, the trailer was making me cringe but she ended up doing a really good job.
Lena Heady was fantastic as always, she's really versatile as fuck. Terribly underrated actress.
Everything else about the movie was great too. They were smart enough to avoid any tired political/social commentary, and you just accepted how it was without delving into any back and forth about morality and justice.
The aesthetics were really well done, loved all the sets and environment design. Music was excellent, listening through the soundtrack again right now.

This is one of the few films that's actually worth seeing in 3D. I hate 3D but this film has been specifically filmed for it and there's a few shots that absolutely make good use of it.
It's still not at my theater. I'm thinking that I might have to actually drive to the next town to see it, if they even have it.
At the end did anybody else notice that [sp]as Anderson was lying on the floor in Ma-ma's room, she was looking at a little copper wire figurine thingy? Remember how that red haired guy whose eyes she gouged out was twiddling with copper wires when we first saw him?
yeah[/sp]
how much money did this movie make

that's so lame. it deserves to do way better. i want a sequel damnit
Wow, that isn't much, how much it cost to make?
the budget was 50 mil according to that page, so probably that
We now have to rely on it gaining popularity when it comes to home video. I have a feeling that most people didn't see it in theaters because it seemed like one you could wait for. Personally, I thought it was fucking awesome but my friends didn't want to see it at all.
Would've made way more without the stupid 3D gimmick tacked onto it.

then again the 3d in this movie was actually good, not saying it shouldve been there but the 3d stuff was really well done
