As a kid, i remember when i was away from my dad and i struggled to remember his face for a while. Very sad experience. Now that I am in constant contact with my father over the net i kind of have a general idea of how he looks like because i can look up his new pictures on social networks and stuff, but yeah, i know what OP means.
I still struggle to recall the faces of my old friends. It's sad.
This thread makes me smh.

Well I have trouble remembering and then visualising faces. Plus I find that some people I know well, if I [b]really[/b] look at them, look completely different to usual.
