Well my dad just had a stroke and I hope everything turns out just fine. :colbert: He just is unable to carry out the function of swallowing at the moment.
i don't agree with the mind control, but I think it would be pretty awesome to run programs in your brain, such as a calculator, dictionary search, translator etc. But then you'll have people who would make computer viruses for it so everyone would be screwed. lol I imagine geohot would make a Bra1n Jailbreak because it would have to be a closed system to prevent viruses etc. now that would be fucking awesome. Plus it would mean school would be Obsolete.
User name is appropriate?
Nyet silly one, simply turn criminals into police with this method and allow the rest of the world their freedom.
Your brain is a piece of meat that functions using electrical and neural impulses, how is that not impressive? We're walking meat computers, biological machines.

That makes me think: if you could "reproduce" a human in exact form, only made of steel and with servos, transistors and sensors as opposed to our muscles, neurons and nerves would it be human?

I personally think so; the consciousness has to lie in the mind, not in some soul.
Nyet silly one, simply turn criminals into police with this method and allow the rest of the world their freedom.
Seems pretty unethical to me, considering criminals are often motivated by mental conditions or bad parenting. I guess that boils down to what you consider a decision, though. If a decision is influenced by mental problems or shitty upbringing, should a person be punished for that decision? I think rehabilitation is a better option.
Shame the brain cannot rebuild itself.
Yeah but its like a worm, chop half of it away and the other half will compensate and the individual can live on perfectly fine. They'll never be as smart as they used to be, but they are missing a good chunk of the brain
Everything about the human body is amazing.
Everything about the human body is amazing.
Sort of. There's some unused parts it doesn't really need, likely byproducts of evolution.
Your brain is a piece of meat that functions using electrical and neural impulses, how is that not impressive? We're walking meat computers, biological machines.
Piece of meat?
Isn't it quite the obvious, it is thanks to our brain for what we've built on this planet. I mean.. every thing. Even the super computers to compare to our brains in the first place. It's pretty fascinating what's going on in our heads :v:
Piece of meat?
Meat is muscle, grey matter is your brain.
I don't see how the brain functions like a computer. All of your though processes and memories are just a sequential path that an action potential takes in your brain.
I don't see how the brain functions like a computer. Of course, it's not like the sorts of computers we use, but it still computes (in different ways, and on different things)
Meat is muscle, grey matter is your brain.
Your brain is comprised of neurons that make up neural tissue. Your muscles are a group of specific cells (three different types) that make up that organ system. Brain =/= meat =/= flesh [editline]21st January 2011[/editline]
How doesn't it? And would need an emulator to decipher it (unlikely). It's like comparing apples to potatos. They're not even the same food group.
With the quantum computers that are being developed now, I wonder if we'll eventually be able to surpass the human brain... Scary to think about.
A computer doesn't have to use binary logic or operate on machine code to be a computer, lol. It just has to compute.
Yeah I guess you missed my stemcell statement on the other page.
Yeah I guess you don't get why I posted that
Definitions of computer A device that computes, especially a programmable electronic machine that performs high-speed mathematical or logical operations or that assembles, stores, correlates, or otherwise processes information. Seems to fit the brain to me
Piece of meat?
Nerve tissue
That diagram explains nothing, I don't see the similarities.
The brain stem is a BIOS, memory is hard drive, visual/audio is linked to the memory through neural pathways, seems a lot like RAM don't you think? [editline]21st January 2011[/editline] If course logic, emotion and language have similarities to a CPU.
