Short answer : Yes, and very soon at that.
He leads a broken country that was once a global empire. He's consolidated power and now has near-total control over the media and local government. He's also a leading partner in the war on terror — much like Hitler was a bulwark against Communism — so we let him get away with a lot, particularly in Chechnya. Russia's half-assed capitalism has done nothing to curb corruption, so when the Russians have had enough humiliation and poverty, they'll follow anyone who'll promise their empire back; and unlike Hitler, Putin has a UN Security Council seat and a huge arsenal of nuclear weapons to fall back on. So there you have it. In five to ten years, when Russia starts making claims on Georgia and Uzbekistan and Ukraine and Latvia, don't say I didn't warn you.
More likely they're going to go on soft power rather than full invasion, coercive imperialism in the form of association and alliance is the new fad of the 21st century. I'm not going to doubt seeing a global war in my lifetime, war has always happened throughout history. What worries me is when, and how it will be played out, and how it will affect me. What really scares the shit out of me is a right wing extremist in power here.
I think it's already happening. Hitler got in there without anyone really knowing who he was until the 1936 Olympics raised a red flag. Suddenly France and Poland were invaded and we all went "...shit."
Apparently children in Germany are being educated to think the Holocaust didn't happen. Many people now believe that voluntarily, but I think the important thing is to show kids and tell them what happened so it doesn't again.

They've heard the rumors but there is nothing like that going on in Germany AFATK
there was a reason United Nations was formed after WW2, so this shit wouldnt happen again
if hitler did happen again I hope he targets all of the bad posters of facepunch [editline]01:40AM[/editline] excluding me of course
there was a reason United Nations was formed after WW2, so this shit wouldnt happen again
yeah but the UN was just an extension of the League of Nations formed in 1919 to do the same thing. But then again the UN was able to gain more support as it gained more countries than the LoN ever did.
Barack obama? Do you watch...Glenn beck?

Hitler could never happen again because the U.N. will just rape them back into line. Either that or he/she will be taken out.
Our country is not in the toilet We are far from what the Germans had. They were starving, disease ridden and homeless. This thread is pointless. Look outside. Look outside. Do you see this in every street corner? Just another thread looking for views. Just like a shitty youtube emo song cover.
No, I don't, but I live in a middle class neighborhood. I used to live in a poor neighborhood, I saw worse.
Yes it is possible if another country ends up the same as Germany, war torn, depressed, in poverty; sounds just like Iraq.
Probably won't happen though. Even if a crazy, right wing ruler takes power, I'm sure the united states would take him out just as fast.
Yes, people say "Oh but we have learned now, we won't vote another guy like that!" but it's bullshit, they'll go "Oh but this guy isn't like Hitler, he's going to XYZ" (exchange X, Y and Z with all the good promises Hitler made to win votes). I mean Hitler tricked nearly everyone in thinking he was a great guy, that includes other country's populations and even their leaders (wasn't it Britain's Prime Minister that said Hitler was a great person? Before the war of course).
Only 1 person in that whole group was even similar to Hitler. The Iranian obviously. [editline]01:59AM[/editline]
Hitler was a lance corporal, his job in WWI was to send messages. He wasn't a war hero, a war hero would have been Baron Richthofen. And the man had absolutely no leadership skills, he was just angry as fuck. A clear demonstration would be the absolute failure of Operation Barbarossa, the Wunderwaffe program, and his failure to retaliate a proper defense against the American and Soviet invasion.
He was an excellent orator, and a captive speaker. That's what leadership qualities he's talking about, I'm sure. Other than that, he was just a lucky bastard.
Hitler's dead, not gonna happen. EDIT: DURR HURR RATE ME DUMB HITLER IS NOT DEAD IN YOUR OPINION
I'm quite surprise nobody ever thought there might be another Joseph Stalin, Pol Pot, Attila the Hun, Genghis Khan, Xerxes, Napoleon and Saddam Hussein.
Hitler's dead, not gonna happen.
Myth Busted
um hitler is dead
Hitler had an advantage because he knew the americans had pity for them (from WWI) and let them go with "sudetenland" and increased militairy activity. If a country goes like that now, it's bombed in days unless it got himself some pretty good allies.
uh no hitler was hardly a war hero, over four million iron crosses were handed out in WWI
Way to insult four million German WWI vets. Personally, I think there is plenty of potential Hitlers alive. There are a few obvious choices, such as Ahmadinejad, Chavez, and Obama, but I don't think any of these guys have the skill or the ambition (bare with me) to be even near Hitler's level. The man was a nut, but he had charisma, drive, and organizational skill. Plus, he had a better mold to work with than any of these new guys. He had a much larger popular base and more control over his country to start with (again, bare with me). Plus, he seemed more willing to get his hands dirty. A-jad will kill a few protesters, sure, but that's standard fare for most non-Western democracies, and even though Obama may or may not have had a certain State Dept. investigator whacked, he wouldn't try anything serious because that 1/3rd of the country that supports him would start to ask questions. I don't really know much about Chavez but I see him mostly as a pompous windbag with more bark than bite, and Kim Jong-Il is a fucking dead man walking and probably has like 387 types of cancer or something. Putin doesn't seem like the genocidal expansionist type at all, either. Pretty sure I covered all the dudes listed in the OP... if not, too bad. Edit: I realize I just shot down my own introduction, so I will clarify: there are people alive in the world today who have the capacity to do what Hitler did. Not necessarily the capability or the proper environment in which to foster that sort of thing. [editline]04:59AM[/editline]
Hitler had an advantage because he knew the americans had pity for them (from WWI) and let them go with "sudetenland" and increased militairy activity. Unless of course I failed history and Neville Chamberlain was really an American and FDR was the Brit PM. And that pity wasn't the reason why the Brits (& others) let Hitler have it. Everyone talks shit on Chamberlain being a pussy, which, to their defense, he sort of was, but he realized that the British military couldn't take on the Nazis and went home and started ramping up the Brit mil in preparation for what, in my opinion any smart person should've been able to figure out, was coming in the near future.
Stop comparing Obama to Hitler, fuck, he's a democrat not some batshit fascist far-right asshole
Stop comparing Obama to Hitler, fuck, he's a democrat not some batshit fascist far-right asshole
Have you read the Nazi party platform? It is chock full of publicly-funded higher education, national health-care, gun control, environmental regulations, regulating of business, etc, all standard issue leftist fare. Do you forget that the Nazis were a socialist party? And that their Italian cousins, the Fascists, were started by a spurned student of the Italian socialist movement? The bad guys from WWII were not philosophically motivated by Adam Smith or John Locke, but by Marx and Machiavelli. Fascism is a far-left ideology, it has nothing in common with anything that could be considered politically "right" except for patriotism (which is supposed to be nonpartisan) and the desire for a strong military, which is also nonpartisan and not inherently a bad thing. The main difference between fascism/Nazism and communism is that the former are only slightly less strict on economic policy, but are certainly no fans of the free market, or any real sort of freedom, for that matter.
If you are looking at someone who has caused a genocide, We have already had many "hitlers" Look at pol-pot during the Khmer-Rouge uprising in cambodia. You could be killed for wearing glasses, wishing to have an education or even just missing you loved ones who had been butchered. something the Rouge called "familism" And what about the most recent one i can think of of the top of my head. The genocide in bosnia committed by the serbians, This happened in 1995 and has been so well covered up that we are only just recently starting to understand the scale of it. more than 300 mass graves have been found. all with upwards of 200 people buried in them and some of up to 800. just murdered and dumped there. Or in rwanda where a sudden uprising made the population kill hundreds of thousands of people who where friends and family, just because they where tutsi and not hutu. At worst, 7000 people where killed a day. So before you post open you fucking eyes and take the time to look around you. At the world, the human fucking world and pull your head out of you silver lined ass and look at the death and destruction that is going on away from you covered up innocence. The world if full of "hitlers" and that is just a fact.

But it was a hard punishment for Germany and i could agree with Chamberlain but it he forgave Hitler a bit too much...
there was a reason United Nations was formed after WW2, so this shit wouldnt happen again
UN's a laughing joke. Its got no ability to enforce its policies on anyone. Just look at Iran; They don't give a shit what the UN says or threatens to them.

Nick Griffin couldn't be the next Hitler since people with at least two braincells wouldn't vote for the racist prick.
I was having a great day until Hitler happened. Shit sucks.
:siren: OBAMA WAS ELECTED IN A RECESSION HE MUST BE HITLER REINCARNATED :siren: :godwin:
