Well everyone has gone a bit crazy, I was more looking for a bit of information on how to do this safeley, so thanks to those that posted something useful. I dont want to make a bomb, I want to do something fun with the bit of KNO3 left. Flash powder isnt an unusual thing for people to make and mess around with, and its not gunpowder, black powder is gunpowder, flash powder is for a bit of fun.
I also suggest using the diaper method... place the powders on the center of a large piece of paper and manipulate the paper by slightly folding it to mix the powders together, this way you don't need anything touching the powders except the paper. video for reference: btw, DO NOT tap, hit, grind, or apply pressure to the powder mixure AT ALL. and please do it outside and not in your room or something and the guy is an idiot for tapping the mixture just saying, video is just for reference to diaper method
If you do want to grind explosive mixtures for a better result, only ever grind the compounds that are stable with each other. For black powder, I typically only grind the carbon and potassium nitrate, once you put all of the chemicals together, you have to be very delicate with it. :eng101: Also, never make this stuff with the intent of using it for anything else other than safely amazing your friends or something, it's not cool for the feds to bust facepunch. :ohdear:
I want to make thermite soon. That seems more fun than sissy "flash powder".
As long as you don't touch it, its actually pretty cool. A classmate in my engineering class did that for his final (it was 101IN, easiest class ever, no OC required). Melted the clay pot he was testing in right into lava though.
You're using the wrong ingredients For flash powder you need: -A Flashlight -A Mortar and Pestle Step 1. Grind the Flashlight in the mortar and pestle Step 2. Remove powder from mortar and pestle Step 3. Flash powder There u go! [editline]22nd June 2011[/editline] also where the hell did you get Potassium Nitrate?
Grind up aluminum foil in a spice grinder and add plaster powder
Multiple stories about how guys tried this exact method and blew their damn hands off. Don't fuck around with bullets. [editline]21st June 2011[/editline] thermite is a good carpet cleaner if you dump a pile of it on the middle of the rug and light it your mother will be so pleased at her sparkling carpet
My dad knew some nutter in school who was always making nitro glycerine and stuff.. but once he tried to get gunpowder from a bullet with a hammer..:ohdear:
OP: Read the Anarchists Cookbook.
You could pry open some bullets and empty out the gun powder, tightly wrap it in some wax paper and stick a fuse in it.
If he could go out of his way to buy ammunition why wouldn't he just buy gunpowder?
I want to make thermite soon. That seems more fun than sissy "flash powder".
It was either 1/16 or 1/8, It all didn't light though :\
My dad knew some nutter in school who was always making nitro glycerine and stuff.. but once he tried to get gunpowder from a bullet with a hammer..:ohdear:
did it work
I used to take the powder from those dumbass whistling fireworks and add a .22 primer to it. It made one hell of a bang when packed into a copper tube.
Thread Music also, explosives + me = :neckbeard::neckbeard::neckbeard:
Can I ask where you got the potassium nitrate from, I know you can get it as a fertilizer or stump removed, but haven't found any yet.
Dat avatar.

Homemade explosives are nothing to fuck around with [editline]23rd June 2011[/editline] So that's why I have these
[img_thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1439918/fun.JPG[/img_thumb]
I could ask my friends dad... He tells stories about how he spent his teenage years making rocket powered tonka trucks (which led to the rocket core shooting off in a massive fireball down his street :v:)

Kinda related to thread, I got some .38 blanks, they're for gundog training I think. I just emptied the stuff out of a few and set it on fire and nothing happend. What is this stuff and how does it work? why does it boom in the gun but not out of it.

flash powder is potassium perchlorate not potassium nitrate. you can still mix in some milled aluminium and have fun. true flashpowder can be set off with a good shock so be careful. [editline]24th June 2011[/editline] also, plain white catherine wheels are a type of aluminium based flash powder. open them up, pour and pack into tube as usual, use catherine wheel fuse and they make a hell of a loud bang if you wrap enough tape on. i'm talking about the little shitty catherine wheels that you get in multipacks of fireworks that nobody likes.
I want to make thermite soon. That seems more fun than sissy "flash powder".
look at sandblasting powder, they use aluminum oxide which is 1/2 of the recipe.... or is it 1/4th of the recipe? been a while since chemistry class

Completely inert. The stuff is pretty big grains, it's not a fine powder. I'm gonna see if I can get one of the primers out and play with that.
they have a primer in the back that whn struck by the pin they go off igniting the gunpowedr
uhh yeah then the pressure pushes it out retard
Can I ask where you got the potassium nitrate from, I know you can get it as a fertilizer or stump removed, but haven't found any yet.
You can get it from cold compresses. But you need a few.
