I'll do it. Because I'm not a spiteful bastard like the people above.
I'll do it. Because I'm not a spiteful bastard like the people above.
Same here bro, because I don't act like a child like the rest of them in the thread and go "No I wont I don't care what day it is i'm going do the opposite cause I don't have to listen and It makes me feel grown up"
I'll do it. Because I'm not a spiteful bastard like the people above.
it doesnt make a difference whether you do it or not.
No it doesn't. Electricity is still being produced. Supply stays the same even if demand lessens for an hour. All this does is put stress on the power grid (apparently? I don't actually have any confirmation of it) by causing a shit load of people to turn all of their appliances/lights on at the same time.
Fair and informative answer, i agree with you and my point of view has changed

There is no point, it's just to make people feel good. Power stations still have to produce baseline flow and when Earth Hour is up, a fucktonne of people are going to turn all their electrical shit on at the same time.
Hey people, read those posts!! You're not saving the climate, you're saving your energy bills, nothing more..
it doesnt make a difference whether you do it or not.
I swear to god you are 11.
"Fuck the electric bill, I'm a rebel!"
"Fuck the electric bill, I'm a rebel!"
More like "Fuck this idea, I know the basics of the power infrastructure of a country".
Nah I like being able to see where I'm going at night.
This shit doesn't work I switch my lights off EVERY FUCKING NIGHT
hey guys lets all turn our power off for an hour then turn them all back on at the same time and put a massive strain on the power grid great idea
people who turn on more lights on purpose are really stupid. the main purpose of this Earth Hour is for publicity and awareness of the plight the Earth is facing, not really for hardcore saving the planet
i can't believe it's already been a year since the last one.

It's not intended to directly help the environment by reducing power usage but more as a demonstrative kind of thing.

Basically since supply stays the same but the demand greatly lessens, there is suddenly an influx of unnecessary power. Think of when you're trying to push something that's really stuck, when suddenly it gives and moves freely. Before you were fine with the amount of force you were exerting, because the resistance took all of it up, but now that that resistance is taken away (All the electronics are turned off), you're probably falling on your face. tl;dr - Taking away all the power consumption while keeping the power plants running is a bad idea and causes unnecessary stress on the grid. PS: Blowing up the power grid is not a good way to get your "Conserve power" message across IMO.
I think I'll go for a drive in my Cadillac [img_thumb]http://filesmelt.com/dl/P1030835.jpg[/img_thumb]

It's called solar power.
Also I'm going to turn on all lights in the house and generally try to use as much power as possible for that hour, who's with me? It's a real waste to let all that energy generated during that hour go to waste.
I will say, "YEAH! I AM GOING TO DO IT!" and end up totally forgetting.
I plan on having a 12-15 person lan party during earth hour. Maybe plug in all of my old fridges that make my power bill go up 15% each, too. Maybe some laundry should be done.. It's been awhile since I've started a bonfire, maybe I will torch everything green within 200 meters. Yeah.. this Earth Hour will be the greatest.
It's more symbolic than practical.
Yea I'll be switching the light and other stuff off. Theres some fun stuff you can do when its dark lol

I prefer Human Achievement hour, where you celebrate how far we've come by driving your car, watching a movie on a giant, power guzzling home theater, or brushing your teeth.
I like to be able to see when it's pitch black out.
no, electricity made in Quebec come directly from barrage
