We claim to be a secular nation, even mandate it under our constitution, but stuff like this is clear evidence to the world that a significant portion of the country seeks to establish nothing less than a Christian theocracy, complete with public execution of nonbelievers, homosexuals, adulterers, and anyone else that doesn't fit their specific view of morality. Read the Old Testament sometime and count the number of executions, rapes, and genocides ordered by God. Apart from all that shit (which is both numerous and shitty) is my serious problem with the fact that religion, even the apparently benign religion of your local church, is dangerous because it pounds one basic concept into the heads of it's believers, from as early an age as possible: It is a virtue to blindly believe something despite all evidence to the contrary. Religious people aren't taught to weigh evidence, look at both points of view, listen to arguments, and decide for themselves. They are indoctrinated to unquestioningly believe what someone in a position of religious authority tells them, and by extension any other person of authority who has the appearance of being pious. I hate to be so arrogant about it, but religion is built on the cultivation of weak-minded sheep who are trained from baptism not to think for themselves. And that's fucking dangerous. That's what leads people to strap explosives to themselves and blow apart women and children: The blind belief that this is what God wants, and they will be rewarded for it. Even your garden variety church is dangerous simply because it cultivates that attitude of blind subservience that is so easily exploited.
you're very right, except (yeah, insert generic baptisc explanation) the old testaments rules and comandments was cancelled out by the word of jesus (the new testament). a testament is known as a contract written by *dead uncle*. but the actual meaning of Testament in this context is "deal" or "contract" so therefore there's the old contract and the new contract. and the old is outdated and cancelled. that's why there was all the shit with jesus VS jews back then. otherwise you make a fine point and i share your thoughts. rate me informative if you get it. rate me dumb if you're thickheaded.
Don't imply that all religious people are ignorant. Cause that's far beyond the truth.
yeah i was just trying to fit in, sorry mate. i just thought it was the general vibe here. i can't help but notice that it looks like you just magically missed the rest of the post? do you agree? disagree? and why? or then again if you don't really care, which i can relate to since it's generally useless information. heh
yeah i was just trying to fit in, sorry mate. i just thought it was the general vibe here.
So, you're going to abuse stereotypes just to be liked by an internet community. Wow.
Don't imply that all religious people are ignorant. Cause that's far beyond the truth.
Wait, I'm ignorant?
Wait, I'm ignorant?
According to Bomino.

I'm just standing for myself and other when I say that not all religious people are blind, ignorant, morons. As for the Muslim Jokes...No. Don't assume things.

Good luck stopping 1/4 of the US populous on this, Evangelical bastards.
ITT: Kids who think it's cool to be atheist. I say believe in shamanism!
There are more atheists than blacks, yet there is no affirmative action for atheists. Where the fuck are OUR lobbyists?
The boy scout rul makes sense, a lot of the stuff they do revolves around Christianity.
The boy scout rul makes sense, a lot of the stuff they do revolves around Christianity.
Like gay sex
I only say this, take it how you will: "Conform or be ignored."
Indeed, some of the laws and rules based on religion are just plain stupid, to put it bluntly. Of course, there are slight exceptions. Like signing up to work in a government branch. Perhaps a religious person is considered to have more morals than an ordinary person and thus is more suitable for this type of work. Still, being an atheist shouldn't limit people's rights.

You decide.). As a christian you are supposed to get your moral compass from the Bible and therefore follow its teachings, but in actual fact no-one actually ever does this. Christians pick and choose which morals to follow, and here lies the logical flaw of religion: how do you know which ones to follow and which not to? That's right - you just do. So, we can choose our own morals to follow on our own, rendering the Bible useless.

TL;DR extremist religious people are fucking arrogant pricks. many christians spend too much time hating, and jews should lay off the wars and prove hitler wrong (we all know he was wrong). wasn't it self explanatory as to why people should follow the New Testament if they are christians?
I wrote a letter to the White House concerning this subject a few days ago I am prepared to have it left unanswered :frown:
ITT: Kids who think it's cool to be atheist. I say believe in shamanism!
Or you could grow a nut sack and believe in yourself.
"Conform or be ignored."
That's not how America works... Or at least that's not suppose to be how America works.
Religion should stay outta my political pasta, it makes it taste like shit. EDIT: Also, the add at the bottom says I can get the bible for free in CD format. EDIT2: Now it's an add for shoes.
Pretty much another angsty teen trying to "think different."
Pretty much another angsty teen trying to "think different."
Why though? Did it ever occur to you by posting what you did, you're indeed following a bandwagon as well? Every thread apparently thinking against religion has multiple people in it posting, "Yah, yur just athist cuz its cooooool". That's not always the case. Believe it or not, some of us use our logic to base our morals and such on, not a book that's well past it's due-date. I'm not bashing religion, I just think that it should stay the fuck in it's own section of the store.
The boy scouts are a private organization. They can accept who they want.
That isn't the point. The point is that the private organization is using the absence of religious belief as a form of discrimination, which gives Atheists another reason to hate religion.
