And how do you think life on earth started? But I do agree. They should not talk about creationism in school.
And a quick thought on abortion:
Ok, walk around on the street. Look at babies. They're adorible, right? Well think about killing that baby. Also, if the baby is in the womb and they kill it, it's abortion. If it's head comes out and they accidently kill the baby, it's murder. So abortion and murder can be about 2 seconds away from each other, but one is legal and the other is illegal.
And a quick thought on evolution:
So, apparently animals adapt to their enviroment. If there was a family that loved water, they lived in water their whole life, and had babies there and kept having them and lived the whole time for hundreds of years, would they grow gills? Of course not.
and another thought on evolution: Basically evolution is there was a tide pool of little cells. And one day those cells said, "well, I'm tired of swimming around all the time, let's turn into a zebra." and some more cells said" well, I kind of want to fly around, let's turn into an eagle." And it goes on.
wow you must be one of the most briliant minds of our tyme
I'm glad I live in México, our constitution is completely secular.
Article 3
The education imparted by the Federal State shall be designed to develop harmoniously all the faculties of the human being and shall foster in him at the same time a love of country and a consciousness of international solidarity, in independence and justice. Said education must be free of bias. (As per the full definition of the word "Laica" as used in the original document)
Freedom of religious beliefs being guaranteed by Article 24, the standard which shall guide such education shall be maintained entirely apart from any religious doctrine and, based on the results of scientific progress, shall strive against ignorance and its effects, servitudes, fanaticism, and prejudices
Also, it's forbidden to broadcast religious messages of any kind through any media; radio and TV.
Many evangelist Christian loccutors have been fired from Radio stations by the government.
Wow mexico is less backward then Australia and America in that sense :/

That's fucking badass, imagine how great America would be if we operated like that.
Just try to picture going to school and not being pressured into praying. Or, the government actually encouraging science! Or, turning on the radio and not hearing some batshit insane fanatic railing on about evil heathens!

You guys got good booze too.
Stop being poor and I'll go live there.
Alot of the contradictions people hear of in the bible come from the interpretations of man itself. Any branch of any religion, whether it be Catholic, Baptist, Anglican, Sum-mi Muslim, They all have their own interpretations of their own book. I'm a Christian myself, but I'm not entirely deep into the bible. I believe solely in the resurrection story. Not the whole hate for Gays, Blacks (Really), I believe these biblical stereotypes came from man-made interpretations, which is why religion is given such pity/hate.
But that's just me.
how is this man rated dumb, he actually knows shit!!!
We claim to be a secular nation, even mandate it under our constitution, but stuff like this is clear evidence to the world that a significant portion of the country seeks to establish nothing less than a Christian theocracy, complete with public execution of nonbelievers, homosexuals, adulterers, and anyone else that doesn't fit their specific view of morality. Read the Old Testament sometime and count the number of executions, rapes, and genocides ordered by God.
Apart from all that shit (which is both numerous and shitty) is my serious problem with the fact that religion, even the apparently benign religion of your local church, is dangerous because it pounds one basic concept into the heads of it's believers, from as early an age as possible: It is a virtue to blindly believe something despite all evidence to the contrary. Religious people aren't taught to weigh evidence, look at both points of view, listen to arguments, and decide for themselves. They are indoctrinated to unquestioningly believe what someone in a position of religious authority tells them, and by extension any other person of authority who has the appearance of being pious. I hate to be so arrogant about it, but religion is built on the cultivation of weak-minded sheep who are trained from baptism not to think for themselves.
And that's fucking dangerous. That's what leads people to strap explosives to themselves and blow apart women and children: The blind belief that this is what God wants, and they will be rewarded for it. Even your garden variety church is dangerous simply because it cultivates that attitude of blind subservience that is so easily exploited.
but this man that says practically the same is revered. and should be.
I have one passage for you on old/new testament.
yeah and there's 5 more of those and 10 that says the opposite.
That is what Jesus said about the Old Testament. It still applies to Christians according to him.
yeah, and he also said the opposite according to others.
what i'm saying is, you should be smart enough to understand that when he says stuff that contradict the old laws, his must be the valid saying, afte all. his saying is most up-to-date. and if he is indeed sent by god, his word is final.
Loud minority on the internet. Atheists are all too quiet in the real world.
we'd get shot if we attempted to talk sence, half the world is religious, 25 of them are good people i really admire and another 25% are blind fanatics that trusts more in an old book than they trust in modern knowledge. i'm sad. being sane is frowned upon by the majority of the world. and as much as 1 sixth of the world thinks it's okay to supress women and beat kids.
Which is the problem... There's no truth, only interpretations which don't lead to anything good.
Seriosuly. Let's blame it on Iran, because obviously religion is a big career deciding belief.
And fuck, can we get back to the laws, and quit fucking about with the girls in the boy scout camp?
(No, don't blame it on Iran, fucker.)

I don't admire any of them unless do so something worth admiration. I respect the ones who respect me but I don't admire them or even necessarily like them.
And I doubt we would get shot if we stood up for our beliefs. There are enough Atheists and Agnostics in the USA to make a difference, and even more in countries like the UK.
It's so nice to live in Finland where atheism is starting to take the lead.

C'mon guys,
Having a bit of religion doesn't hurt anyone,
Don't be lazy atheist fucks and at least don't bitch about religion if you're too lazy to go to the Church on Sundays, I'm Christian, and I sadly don't go to the Church also, but I still believe in God.

So no one can have a problem with religion and it's incredible hypocrisy and ability to hurt peoples lives, their personal lives which they and only they should have control over, yet the church, and religion steps in. You say a bit of religion hurts no one, huh? What about all the children that are born into circumstances when they should never have been born into because of anti abortion laws? All the gays that have been forced into a painful life of shame and feel terrible because they can't get married. How about the American Catholics that said they'd pull homeless shelters if a state passed gay marriage laws. Huh, I guess it does no wrong if you're an idiot or something, but beyond that... For every one good thing religion has ever done, it's also done 5 bad things.
The first thing I was enraged about is that if you do not believe in the christian god as told by the bible, you cannot join the boy scouts of america. Now, back then, I was an atheist still. I never publicly announced my beliefs and one of my friends in my troop was jewish. So, basically we had to shut up or be kicked out. What the fuck. How does god judge my qualification of being a productive boy scout or citizen?
The Boy Scouts of America is a private organization. If you aren't a Christian, they have the right to keep you out as much as you have the right to be an atheist. I remember back in the day there were plenty of Jewish and even a Muslim boyscout. They never really talked about religion in boy scouts, though.
lol you were a boy scout
Also, I'm atheist, and in Boy Scouts.
I can't earn any medals or what-not for my religion or whatever, but I still can become an Eagle Scout, go camping, etc.
I am a Boyscout and I am non theistic, I do not hesitate so share my religious views, I refuse to say the 'under god', part of the pledge of allegiance. I just watch what I say around some of the more religious sensitive kids in my group.

Atheism is a religion. Many Buddhists are also considered atheists because they do not believe in a single personified deity.

Buddhists may be atheists, but that doesn't make atheism a religion. We have no creed. There is nothing that joins us in the typical religious sense. Nothing about us defines us as a religion, we do not congregate, we have no voice, and we are still taxed. We are most certainly not a religion. We are a group of people. We share one belief, and no others necessarily. I can believe something radically different from any other atheist, and still be an atheist.
For the last god damn time, Atheism can not, and is not a religion.

No, you're just thick. I don't know a single atheist, that is an atheist because he doesn't want to go to church. That's a meaningless reason. You're either being a troll, or a moron.

Atheists can be members of the Boyscouts, just putting that out there.

Exactly. In all of the Boy Scout troops I've been in, no one has ever given two shits about someone's religion.
Isn't Religion fun guys?
Maybe not, but most of them are.

Um...
A. Lol, trolling.
B. You're a clear product of religion's tendency to impart a tremendously arrogant sense of superiority into it's followers.
C. You resort to making massive assumptions and generalizations because you've been so heavily indoctrinated that the mere concept of someone believing something different than you is simply too much for you to wrap your idiotic little head around.
Atheists can be members of the Boyscouts, just putting that out there.
According to the website:
The religious emblems program offers pathways for Scouts to more deeply understand their duty to God.
They must have changed this, because there was no "religious emblems program." It was just out there and it also said it frowned on people who didn't believe in God and they weren't allowed in.
Officially, they used to say "No atheists." However, in your local town hopefully your scoutmaster doesn't give a shit and just lets you in because they don't care about their stupid rules.
I can take a stab at it and guess that Penn and Teller helped bring about this small change, however, I still think this is abuse of my tax money to fund an organization that promotes religious indoctrination.
[editline]09:45AM[/editline]
Also quick note: I've never been in boy scouts, but my mom kept pushing me to do so.
Fun fact: In Massachusetts, blasphemy is actually illegal!
PART IV. CRIMES, PUNISHMENTS AND PROCEEDINGSIN CRIMINAL CASES
TITLE I. CRIMES AND PUNISHMENTS
CHAPTER 272. CRIMES AGAINST CHASTITY, MORALITY, DECENCY AND GOOD ORDER
Chapter 272: Section 36. Blasphemy
Section 36. Whoever wilfully blasphemes the holy name of God by denying, cursing or contumeliously reproaching God, his creation, government or final judging of the world, or by cursing or contumeliously reproaching Jesus Christ or the Holy Ghost, or by cursing or contumeliously reproaching or exposing to contempt and ridicule, the holy word of God contained in the holy scriptures shall be punished by imprisonment in jail for not more than one year or by a fine of not more than three hundred dollars, and may also be bound to good behavior.

Anyway, I don't really give a shit about things like this, because I do NOT view Athiesm as a religion, therefore, there is no need to demand that everyone in the world accepts the fact that there may or may not be God(s). Most of the time, Athiests are even more annoying than any other religious group with their constant complaining about being "treated fairly."

So under your logic, since they're not a religion, they deserve to be treated like shit and afforded none of the protections that religions are entitled to.

You don't think that if you spoke out against a "God Hates Fags" rally and were imprisoned because you were an atheist it'd be a big deal?
