Religion is a joke. A dangerous one too. I wouldn't care if they wouldn't care.
I can't imagine anywhere but the bible belt where you would go to school and be pressured into praying. Unless you're going to a religious school, in which case that's fairly obvious.
As I remember, Bush's government mandated a nationwide "moment of silence" in our schools, right after the pledge. Nothing more than a cheesy attempt at the closest thing to mandated prayer they could legally get.
The first thing I was enraged about is that if you do not believe in the christian god as told by the bible, you cannot join the boy scouts of america. Now, back then, I was an atheist still. I never publicly announced my beliefs and one of my friends in my troop was jewish. So, basically we had to shut up or be kicked out. What the fuck. How does god judge my qualification of being a productive boy scout or citizen?
You have to believe in Jehovah? There's no such rule to my knowledge. Near the back of my Boy Scout book, there's a listing of some medals related to religions. There's even one for Hinduism in there, and they aren't exactly monotheistic.
Next addressing the unrelated issues with religion in a large area of the Middle East. we all know this one. Some governments in that region use quote-cutting in the qua-ran to lead their citizens into self-hate and hatred of other countries, such as the US.
Allah was derived from a moon god. Mohammed cannibalized the Bible. I still can't get my mind around how people don't know that...
There's alot of other issues associated with religion in the world and the US, now I do not support condemning religion in the US, but just to make separation of church and state fully present, no more local legislation telling us what to do, no more religious segregation. None of that anymore.
All that other stuff you said didn't make any sense, and I've never even heard it before.
Like it or not this country was founded on religion. And the boy scouts are a private gig, they can do whatever they want...
Like it or not this country was founded on religion.
This is by far the biggest falsehood thrown around by the Christian right. The country was NOT, I repeat, NOT founded as a Christian nation. They even went to the extent of specifying in the Constitution that the government cannot endorse any one religion. For some reason the right seems to think that all the founders wanted their religion forced on everyone else, despite the fact that their very signatures ratified a document prohibiting exactly that.
And the boy scouts are a private gig, they can do whatever they want...
They receive public money in many states. Public money + private organization that directly discriminates against the nonreligious = state endorsement of religion.
Like it or not this country was founded on religion. And the boy scouts are a private gig, they can do whatever they want...
It was also founded when everyone had slaves. Your point?
I'm so glad I don't live in america I thought Obama would of done something about this.
ITT: Atheists complaining that they are unolved and outcasts. You have to understand that atheists look really really weird to other people and you are a small minority in America. Stop screaming for benefits and equal rights, esspecially stop screaming it on an internet forum. Because we all know that that gets you places in life.

Why the hell would Atheists look weird to other people? I didn't know you could tell if someone was an Atheist by staring at them. Americans should come stay in the UK, fundamentalist Christians are sort of laughed at over here. And we teach Evolution in public schools! And surprisingly enough, shouting about benefits and equal rights does actually get you places in life. If it didn't, we'd probably still be living in a white-supremacist world.
To make myself be accepted on Facepunch- Religion is stupid. Christians need to stop being so ignorant and stupid, and realize God is a fairytale. Everyone on Facepunch- RELIGION IS STUPID LOL. CHRISTIANS TELLING US WHAT TO BELIEVE IN! Does no one see the irony in that, or are you blinded by what you despise in the first place?

The only time I give a shit about religion telling someone to do something if 1. It's a child. 2. It's government mandated. 3. It's racist/homophobic You cannot lump every Atheist into one group, because Atheism isn't a group, it's more of a position. Also, what you've said has been said before, time and time again, and it isn't any more correct. The main criticism made by Atheists on Facepunch is when religion intrudes on policy, seen in the gay rights threads etc.

Read back your own words and tell me how that sounds. You're saying that people who believe weird things don't deserve civil rights. Also, they aren't a tiny minority, recent survays put atheists/non-religious people at about 10% of the population in America. Which is about 4% shy of, you guessed it, blacks.

Every thread that has a mention of religion, it turns into a Christian bashing fest. Even if it has nothing to do with gays.
So, basically what this video is about the religious customs/laws in the US and how they are absolutely ridiculous. He doesn't, the people who made the Boy Scouts did. The next thing was that you cannot sign up for ANY legislative or otherwise state-governing branch if you did not believe in the christian god in 7 states and more. How? how does this make any sense? Does your god send you messages of good law? good reason? FUCK NO, IT'S YOU WHO DOES THAT! What? That didn't make any sense. Next addressing the unrelated issues with religion in a large area of the Middle East. we all know this one. Some governments in that region use quote-cutting in the qua-ran to lead their citizens into self-hate and hatred of other countries, such as the US. That's unrelated to America, so why are you bringing it up. There's alot of other issues associated with religion in the world and the US, now I do not support condemning religion in the US, but just to make separation of church and state fully present, no more local legislation telling us what to do, no more religious segregation. None of that anymore. One of the major points of the Constitution was the seperation of state and religion. And its already been done.
Those are my cups of tea.
Communists called religion "Opium of the People" for a reason. Why should we give up something that can heal so much pain? Is ultimate truth really that important to have ignorant idiots succumb to decadent hedonism and violence in the name of truth? Or should those ignorant idiots be fed religious lies so that they happen to be polite and kind to those people who have to deal with them, and they could live happy lives themselves? Ignorance is bliss remember. Think about it.
that's exactly what the communists were fighting against, this kind of manipulative thinking, as it was held by the state in the form of state religion and religious indoctrination, which still goes on today. anyway this idea would make things worse, not better.
Haha, no. Every thread that has a mention of religion, it turns into a Christian bashing fest. Even if it has nothing to do with gays.
Well why shouldn't it? You brought up the subject of religion, is it wrong for people to disagree with it? [editline]06:23PM[/editline]
Those are my cups of tea.
1. That doesn't make any sense. 2. Yes it did. He's saying that unless you believe in God, you cannot sign up for any legislative branch in 7 states or more. What's wrong with that sentence. 3. Thread title is Religious-based customs/Law in America. Religious-based customs and law in America. Many middle-eastern governments use religious-based customs to abuse, through quote farming. It is relevant. 4. If you think separation of church and state in America exists entirely in America, you are wrong. The fact you are even discussing having intelligent design in public schools shows this. My cups of tea.
