If one of my friends became a TS out of the blue It would be slightly awkward for about a week. Though others may take it better or worse, I don't speak for everyone.
It really depends entirely on one's friends. For example when I ever get around to telling my friends I'm trans I'm reasonably certain that it'll only be awkward for a bit while they adjust to it. But for a lot of people that won't be the case. Especially for people who prefer a lot of more casual friends than a few close friends they're certain they can trust.
Ugh. I love how some of you are trying to act like its not transphobic and it's just your sexuality to only like cis women. News flash they're both women in nearly every single way. Singling them out like that shows you don't consider them women.
Hey bro, sorry to burst your bubble but if your born with a dick and a sack, youre a man. If your born with tits, a vag and a uterus, you're a woman. That's how it works. You guys are calling me ignorant yet you go and called a guy with a chopped up dick and hormone treatments a woman because "OMG deep down inside they are a woman cause they believe it." It's not transphobic to not agree that they're able to change gender. I disagree on the topic but I don't go around throwing rocks at transvestites because I disagree. Stop thinking that because someone disagrees they're some ignorant sack of shit.
But you are. You're the one who firmly believes that gender and birth sex are the same thing and refuses to educate yourself on the matter. I think the title "ignorant" fits you like a glove.

Stop thinking that because someone disagrees they're some ignorant sack of shit.
Oh hi, I'm a link that's about to ruin your day because not everyone is born with either/or. "That's how it works." Why does it work like that? It doesn't seem to work like that since I've met loads of trans people and they're clearly the gender they say they are and have often identified as such and experienced gender dysphoria since they were very young. Also lots of really clever developmental psychologists, doctors, psychiatrists, queer theorists, gender theorists and regulatory bodies disagree with you. "It's not transphobic to not agree that they're able to change gender." You sound a bit like my Dad. He says it's not homophobic to think that gay men are mentally ill and don't have "real" relationships. Just because you're not beating up transgender people doesn't mean you're not transphobic. What's your logic? Where's your reasoning? You can't just say "This is how it is". Why is it this way in your opinion?
No it's just that I'm not from any english speaking country and I didn't know if there was a specific word or anything. Way to be a dick.
Ah Just so you know, calling a trans person "it" is considered quite callous
Except gender and sex are both used commonly to describe the same thing, regardless of its exact dictionary definition. You know what I mean, so stop trying to twist my words into something other than my intended meaning.
That hasn't been my experience - at least since I left high school and people learned the difference. Gender and sex are very different.
Except gender and sex are both used commonly to describe the same thing, regardless of its exact dictionary definition. You know what I mean, so stop trying to twist my words into something other than my intended meaning.
Yeah, and "virus" "bacteria" "germs" "infection" and "disease" are all commonly used to describe the same sort of thing regardless of exact dictionary definition. That doesn't mean doctors should start giving you antibiotics for your cold.
Except gender and sex are both used commonly to describe the same thing, regardless of its exact dictionary definition. You know what I mean, so stop trying to twist my words into something other than my intended meaning.
Ah yes, the argument from common usage, I wondered when this would come up. Redrawing the boundaries on the map does not change the territory.
News flash they're both women in nearly every single way.
Nearly, cept they have/had dicks
if ur born with a dick and a sack your a man i'm not ignorant nope
Personally I think that in modern society we could be developed enough to see past constraints like these. The only thing standing in the way is ideologies.
Except gender and sex are both used commonly to describe the same thing, regardless of its exact dictionary definition. You know what I mean, so stop trying to twist my words into something other than my intended meaning.
but if you didn't know the difference between gender and sex was so large, does that not just highlight how little you know of the subject at hand? if you were knew what you were saying, you would have said "sex" instead of "gender".
if ur born with a dick and a sack your a man i'm not ignorant nope
what Oh you're pretending to be DinoJesus
OP, you were dating her for three years before figuring it out, and only because she told you. She's a girl. This changes nothing. I know it's shocking and hard to deal with, but you'll work through it.
Kayo police use to be a man. Now she's gold.
Personally I think that in modern society we could be developed enough to see past constraints like these. The only thing standing in the way is ideologies.
It's not ideology actually, essentialist thinking seems to be the semi-default state of human psychology.
Except that she is actually a he
Was a he. WAS.
So DinoJesus and ILiekBoxes what would it take to convince you that someone is no longer a man but in fact a woman? If they had a fully functional vagina and the ability to reproduce would they then earn the astounding honor of being called a woman by you? Or better yet how about you stop viewing gender as what slabs of meat a person happens to have and stop being part of the problem that associates the stigma around transgender people.
Except that she is actually a he
No she is not.
It largely depends. If you feel that you're still attracted to her, keep going on with the relationship. If you aren't so much, you could consider moving on.
Was a he. WAS.
and still is
Was a he. WAS.
It's still a dude. You can paint a horse black n white and call it a zebra but it's still a fuckin horse
Can't we just call transgendered people something a little more neutral? The only neutral word I can think of is "it" but that seems to offended them.
You've got to be one of the most insensitive people I've seen on this forum over the course of five and a half years. Get over the "they're a man" mentality and respect them for who they are, not who they used to be.
I don't hate them, I just find it annoying how everyone is dancing around the topic. If someone's a transvestite, cool, whatever, you can believe what you want to believe. Just don't expect me to agree with everything you believe. You're all basically saying that because I feel they're still a man, I therefore am an ignorant transphobic dude who goes around being a cunt to transvestites in real life for no reason whatsoever. If dont really give a fuck if you think I'm a cunt because I'm giving my opinion bluntly on a fucking web forum.
I would like to repeat myself by saying that having the physical attributes of a male or a female does not mean that your gender correlates to those attributes. The true essence of gender is currently outside of the scientific conception, scientific progress is not there yet, due to the fact of it being related to the human psyche which we know very little about from a scientific perspective.
and still is
I bet you didn't even try once to educate yourself on this matter. Imagine what you could accomplish if you dedicated even an ounce of the energy it must take to be so willfully ignorant.

Hey guys I taught my cat to bark it's a dog now
Hey guys I taught my cat to bark it's a dog now
You might want to stop posting this. The last person I saw who started using this line of argument in a trans thread got a long vacation from the forum.
