There's only like 600 members online, this is the slowest fp has ever been.
few minute to hour ban saying "Clear your cookies" when someone asks from now on for being so late about asking. Either that or garry put up an annoucement saying it.
An announcement would probably be good - "If you're getting logged out repeatedly, CLEAR YOUR COOKIES AND LOG BACK IN before asking about it. Thank you."
You should consider rolling up your javascripts into one single, compressed file using the closure compiler. It saves a bit on page loads, and there are less requests and less load (maybe). Oh, and maybe put as many as you can at the bottom of the page, too.
I did that but garry said it was stupid and undid it.
Not surprised. :v:
So uh, what's the deal today?
It saves time on the first page load. About half a second. There's no extra load because it's cached by cloudflare.
cloudflare suck, we can only see the frontpage of the forum and nothing else. also cloudflare is slow as fuck
You're blaming cloudflare for stuff you don't understand.
cloudflare suck, we can only see the frontpage of the forum and nothing else. also cloudflare is slow as fuck
If you can only see the front page then how are you posting?
You're blaming cloudflare for stuff you don't understand.
Seems fine here. Is this only happening for some of the FP servers? Hell, do we still have more than one? :v:
rewrote my last post:

Roll up your javascripts and compress them using the closure compiler or something similar
Place as many javascripts on the bottom of the page as you can
Images on the top nav bar (ticker, event log) aren't using css sprites. (background images could do this, too)
Combining css style sheets as well might help
Rewrite urls for avatars and such, they won't be cached by some servers (dunno about cloudflare)
Don't use S3 as a CDN, you'll get charged up the ass for GET requests
A few images on the front page (header, forum icons) are missing dimensions
Include expires headers, most image/stylesheets are cached for 4 hours :(
Help what? Do you think the forum's recent performance problems are due to unminified javascript?
Help what? Do you think the forum's recent performance problems are due to unminified javascript?
Not at all, I'm not suggesting it because of the problems that have been going on. It's not going to help right now, and it probably won't fix anything.
Oh you're just trying to save me bandwidth?
I'm sure that's not too much of a problem, but it increases page speed for users with slower connections.
First page speed
It seems to be kind of intermittent. Sometimes everything's fine and dandy for ages, then all of a sudden it stops dead. The site is completely dead for a few minutes, then it goes back to normal. Do you have a chimpanzee in the server room plugging and unplugging cables?
Do you have a chimpanzee in the server room plugging and unplugging cables?
He certainly does :v:
First page speed
Fair enough, but cache time could be increased a bit.
I've constantly been deleting my cookies but I can't stay logged in. Boo.
Try CTRL+5
Ctrl+F5 In case you tried and it did nothing, typos are bitches [editline]28th June 2011[/editline] http://www.facepunch.com/member.php?username=wootman How come Roflburgers avatar comes up so big?
So why didn't the bullshit section show up on the CloudFlare cached page?
I cleared my cookies. Three times. I still get logged out. I said this already, and people are still saying "clear your cookies." It doesn't work.
http://www.facepunch.com/member.php?username=wootman How come Roflburgers avatar comes up so big?
It has to do with the way vBulletin generates it's thumbnails.
I just had an issue with the password I tried to put in a few hours ago to attempt to increase my account security, but when I got logged out mysteriously (yes I'll clear my cookies in a sec here once I post this probably) I tried to log in with that password and it said that it was wrong every time even though I copypasted the password (it's a long and complicated one so I pretty much have to copypaste it) it didn't accept it. What's the deal, is there some sort of unmentioned password length or something?
I've constantly been deleting my cookies but I can't stay logged in. Boo.
What do you mean? Obviously if you delete your cookies you're going to be logged out.
What do you mean? Obviously if you delete your cookies you're going to be logged out.
Yeah well I've done it twice and it doesn't keep me logged in.
http://www.facepunch.com/member.php?username=wootman How come Roflburgers avatar comes up so big?
The stylesheet enforces a 60px wide avatar, but leaves the height unrestricted. For example.
