It now and then hapends that people have exams and request a 2 week ban for example so they can concentrate on revising.
And they actually get unbanned after that?
If a mod bans you for seven days, yes, after seven days you will be unbanned. :downs:

Garry, did you ever think about posting some rules in the chat? I'm looking through the refugee camp, and all I see is a bunch of people complaining about the bans they got by being immature within the chat-room. There should be a little line that pops up when you enter chat that reads "Hey you, use your common sense, don't spam, or you'll be banned" or something similar. If not that, then there should be some referral or footnote in the GD sticky as to how to behave within chat. As of right now, chat seems like a lawless section of this forum, and people seemed more surprised than usual when they are banned for something they said in chat.

Common sense isn't called common sense for nothing.

If they think it's any different just because it's a chat then they had it coming.
Common sense isn't called common sense for nothing.
There isn't any guide to tell people to use common sense. Most Facepunchers will take every chance they get to be as outrageous as they can be. Since there's no message prohibiting outlandish behavior, they take it as the go-ahead to fuck around where it's not allowed. I simply think it'd be best if there was a tiny little message that said "This is still part of the forum. Rules still apply" so there is no confusion on why someone is banned.

That's the problem, though. On every other part of the forum, there's a sticky of some sort that says don't do this, this, and this. Places such as The OIFY have no rules, so it's a field-day for posters. People in chat see it as the same. Most people, like you and me, have the common sense to not be raffling morons in chat. Sadly, not all of FP has the same mind-set. Leave them no leash, as I like to say.
The OIFY does have rules, don't break them though.

mind = blown.
if chat is expanded upon we should get 1-2 chat moderators
no power outside chat but can kick/ban people from chat

There should be some sort of requirement to be able to enter the chat. Otherwise, spammers everywhere

Daijitsu banned himself for 3 days recently because of the toxx clause.
Also if you ever want to get banned for a short period of time the best thing to do is PM a nice mod and ask politely. I don't get why you'd want it in the first place, can't you just use self control?

I was tempted to ask a week ago, because, while I do have the self control to avoid Facepunch for finals week, I would prefer to just avoid the temptation entirely. Then I realized that I still had free time occasionally and decided against it
This one time I contemplated asking for a permaban because I thought I had too much of my time consumed. Then I realized "hey man I can just turn off my computer"
If you really need to stay away from FP but lack self control, the best thing you can do is ask for a ban. Besides that, if it's just a matter of not absent-mindedly logging on and waste your life into the ungodly hours of the morning, just adblock facepunch or (god forbid) turn off your computer
New to the forum, just wanted to say I'm really impressed with the overall look of the forum. It's nice to see a well designed, clean looking forum, rather than the generic blue vBulletin forum look. Is this forum custom built by you guys?
