This entire thing, including sending numbers, even with groups of dots is all conditional if they also use ASCII, let alone binary. We'd have a better chance of sending out analogue sound signals, but even then, all they will be receiving (if they have the means to capture radio waves) are a bunch of noise.
In fact, even the most directed radio waves break down into indistinguishable noise after about 2 light-years. It's a rule of physics, not technology limitations. There's a lot of interference in space.
Thank you.
Someone send a message with the binary. :3:
I was torn between sending
010101000110100001101001011100110010000001101101011001010111001101110011011000010110011101100101001000000110100101110011001000000110010001101111011101010110001001101100011001010010110101110011011001010110001101110101011100100110010100100001
and the cow thing. I went for the cow cause I was too lazy to encode.
So the idea is, with billboards, flyers, newspapers, posters, the radio, TV, and all the other shit we've come up with, we've filled the planet's air, earth and ocean with our message. Now we spam space?

are you trying to be funny or what
I'm trying to frame the activity in another point of view.
I sent this:
nûûÿ¿þÿÿ¿ÿûÿÿûÿÿÿà
It's actually a binary representation of first 10 primes encoded into ASCII:
011011101111101111111011111111111011111111111110111111111111111110111111111111111111101111111111111111111111101111111111111111111111111111100000
(the 5 zeroes at the end are there only to complete the last byte)
This is probably a better way of sending numbers, since aliens won't understand ascii.
I sent "Long way down, isn't it"
Edit:
Changed my mind - sent "I for one welcome our alien benefactors"
I think messages would be more understood if in the form of images.
Yeah I agree.
Hey aliens, if you have some of that virtual reality stuff, any chance of sending it our way? Because that would be rad.
Goddamn it's like Twitter.
We must construct additional pylons.
We will see many pylons there if we ever visit that planet.
Hope we don't run into the Helghans.
I hope the aliens we are sending it to have more practical uses to taxpayers money.

Hey alien homies, can you read .bmp image files?
Oh wait, you don't have win-doze... :(
Okay... I sent in my entry. On their site they claim it'll be sent on 2099. But yet in the email they gave me;
"Hi Benie,
Your interstellar message has been logged. It will be transmitted on 24 August 2009 to Gliese 581d, the nearest Earth-like planet to us, by the Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex in Australia."
:raise: Wow, is it 2099 already?
I want to send picture representations of the base elements. If they have any way of receiving this, then they should at least know of some of them.

Also i told them if we could have some teleporters

What are you on about? I was just saying that the email claims it'll be sent in 2009. But the site claims it'll be sent 2099.
Shouldn't the email say it'll be sent December 2099?
Someone send a series of prime numbers so they don't think we're total retards. But don't use actual digits. Use some kind of symbols - a physical representation of the numbers.
Indeed, that should be done, since the Glieseans might have a different numeric system from our accepted Base-10 system, derived from the ten digits of our hands. The Mayan civilisation used a Base-20 system, whilst the Sumerians used a Base-60. But if we look at Earth's dominant numeric system, based on our ten hand-based digits, we'd probably assume that the dominant numeric system of a planetary civilisation would be based on how many fingers/thumbs they have, and might even take into account the number of arms they have. That means that their dominant numeric system could be anything from Base-1 (if they're worms) to Base-500 (if they're Shub-Niggurath). But this is assuming that there actually ARE Glieseans on Gliese 581d.
A cookie for the guy that says "Your destruction is the will of the Gods, and we are the instrument"
Edit
How do we know that all these friendly greetings in our languages aren't practically death threats in theirs?
Argh I can't change my fucking message >:(

150 character limit.
Wow. They declined BOTH my messages, in favor of idiotic things like, "Hi I'm Steve you should come to earth we have ice cream and kittens. love, Steve Hi alienz!"
It's apparent that the imbecile creators of this website are uninterested in communicating to the aliens that there is actual INTELLIGENT life aside from themselves.

Mine was accepted, I told them I "Welcomed them as our benefactors"
Just sent 'ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US'
Good one.
"My name is Zachary Fletcher Schneider. I was 18 years old when I sent this message. I live on Earth, in America. Please visit and share a meal with me. Respect."
No no no! Better hope this planet isn't ruled by a warlord. We're galactic toast if it is.
Communicating with the unknown = Bad Idea...
Any sentient beings of Gliese; I, as a messenger of the imperium of man, declare war on your people. If you receive this, consider yourselves formally notified.
We're gonna kick their asses.
Remember guys, if they come from a planet where water necessary but scare, spitting at your feet is likely a sign of great honor, not of disrespect, as they offer the water of their body to you.
