• How I came to respect bilingual speakers

Been learning French for about 10 years I guess, but they teach you nothing substantial when you're young. I would probably get by okay, I know enough swear words. I learned Latin and Ancient Greek for a time and remember nothing.
I did Spanish for 5 years, stopped about half a year ago and I've forgotten a great deal. Maybe after a short refresher I would be back up to an acceptable standard. Got an A at GCSE, but so did half of my class so I don't suppose I was exceptionally great at it or anything. Thinking of learning a new language in my own time at some point in the future aswell.
I honestly think that people who barely understand English should NOT work at a drive through or some other job where you have to communicate with customers. It's just a pain in the ass.
Shit I can speak English and Chinese, I'm learning spanish right now and i can't get a grasp of anything in it.
I failed my spanish class yet I have fluent chinese. My school is in hickville so they don't give a shit about Chinese and would rather get new turf.
Learning languages though school (especially in high school) sucks. They teach you all of the grammar and shit like conjugation and agglutination too early, and you really don't get a good understanding of the language. I took three years of Spanish classes in high school and barely passed, yet I can't speak Spanish to save my life, but any language I learn on my own I can speak well.
Thats exactly what I say, I need help understanding how to translate it, not how the language is.
That's pretty fucking subjective. I doubt that Czech would be any easier. If you take a closer look and actually compare German and English you'll find that German is a much more compact language. Our "everyday regular German" is even easier although they're never gonna teach you that. In German, for example, we don't use "do" or "got" like you have it in the English language. The simple verb is enough: I have got your money, harharhar -> Ich habe dein Geld, haRRRhaRRhaRR (notice hard, rolling R) At this point i can't be arsed to write any further because my feet are cold. :saddowns:
Actually, the example you gave is incorrect. "I have got your money" is in the past tense, "ich habe dein Geld" is present tense. It makes little difference in the end since in the past tenses the german would be either 4 or 5 words, but not longer. "ich hatte dein geld" or "ich habe dein geld gehabt"
Take enough of a class to learn how to speak the basic language, then learn how to interact with it in another college. Ha, I meant country, not college.
I've taken 3 years of Japanese and I can only understand the simplest words I took 3 years of German and forgot it when I started Japanese
I've taken French for around six fucking years and I still can't understand shit.
See, you have to actually pay attention during classes to understand it.
I'm thankful for the bilingual Chinese kids at my school. They help me with my math.
I don't respect them for shit. They know one language they'll actually use, and one that's just fun to know
^ Obvious idiot ______________________ Speak French: Possible Write in French (without mistakes): Good luck I am French Canadian and i do less mistake in a 1000 word text in English than a 300 word text in French
I took German for 2 years and I have a decent grasp of the language. I'm not fluent by any means, but I can understand and speak enough to get/ give the gist of things. I just need to expand my vocabulary. It's not that hard to learn a language, if a little baby can learn, so can you. :keke:
Let me just say that I used the phrase "Je ne sais pas." in French class a lot...
My spanish teacher is complete shit, I don't think i'll be learning anything.
I'm hoping your not referring to Spanish as a hard language. Because it's my second year in it, and it's super easy. If you pay attention, there's no reason you should have a hard time. I'm sick of people in my class who on purpose mispronounce words and suck balls at it. I should of learned french, it seems people are more serious in that class.
i hear it's easier for developing kids to learn a new language than it is for adults
I don't respect them for shit. They know one language they'll actually use, and one that's just fun to know
Let's disregard every single facepuncher who doesn't have english as primary and call them dicks.
"I have gotten.." would be past. I just checked the interwebs and "have got" is in fact present tense. "Ich hatte dein Geld" -> "I had your money" "Ich habe dein Geld gehabt" -> "I have had your money"
Most of my language lessons consisted of finding the turn to page games, for example someone would write in the textbook a series of clues and we would complete it, I usually got "YOU IZ A WANKER"
i knew a guy whose parents were vietnamese and he spoke english in an aussie accent
I've taken French for around six fucking years and I still can't understand shit.
Pourquoi est-ce que tu n'aime pas français?
Hope this gives the grammar nazi's some ideas here.
I did the mandatory 3 years of swedish in comprehensive school. I still don't know a fucking word. Worst part is, we're going to be having more swedish in the next 3 years, mayby I'll learn something now.
In Singapore, you have to learn two languages. English and a language of your parents choosing.
