I'm pretty sure a few atheists (on FP anyway) just plain dislike anyone who believes in God
Because people on FP are dicks. No reasonable atheist is going to hate a person just for being religious. I may hate a person for what they've done with religion (Pat Robertson you can die in a fucking fire), but not just for being religious. Hate the sin, not the sinner, to use one of their trite phrases.
You can't prove it, therefore you can disprove it.
I can't prove anything outside my thoughts exists. So nothing does.

This post has a good point
Is there any atheist that doesn't hate theists, or any theist that doesn't hate atheists besides me here?
Me, atheist. I'm a legitimate atheist, by the way.
This post has a good point
No it doesn't, Solipsism is a terrible, immature philosophy.
No it doesn't, Solipsism is a terrible, immature philosophy.
It's hard to explain, for me anyway, but what he said is basically equating the process of trying to disprove God to a religious person.
It's hard to explain, for me anyway, but what he said is basically equating the process of trying to disprove God to a religious person.
Uh, what? How is Solipsism like trying to convince a religious person?
Uh, what? How is Solipsism like trying to convince a religious person?
Because if you try to convince him that things exist outside because they simply do, he'd say something absurd, that only he believes.
Which...is what a religious person would do
I'm pretty sure a few atheists (on FP anyway) just plain dislike anyone who believes in God
Those who hate theists are called anti theists and are a group separate from atheists.

is the only true God.

Oh. You have a good point there. Though thinking about it, they're kind of opposite. Solipsism says that nothing exists outside of your own mind, and religion (at least most of them) says that something greater exists outside of the normal world that we can't touch/see/whatever.
You can't prove or disprove religion.
If someone can't give evidence for something it should be treated as though it is false.
I can't prove anything outside my thoughts exists. So nothing does.
I fucking hate this bullshit.

Yep, but I don't think Mexican was comparing the concepts, merely the thought process
Those who hate theists are called anti theists and are a group separate from atheists.
Antitheism isn't the hate of theists, it's the hate of theism. Hating theists just because is called being a prick.
Also this is my last post for a few days, guess it was a good one. Bye FP.
No it doesn't, Solipsism is a terrible, immature philosophy.
I was just using a counter example to point out the absurdity of that claim.
If someone can't give evidence for something it should be treated as though it is false.
That way we'd still be in the stone age.
All the "evil" people think originates from religion actually originate from the people working it in the religions name.
Theres nothing wrong with the teachings of for example christianity but people have used it as a tool for power and to achieve personal agenda.

Hmm, wouldn't anti-theists be the people who hate the people of a religion? Because the use of the word "theist" is referring to a human...

I'm an atheist who admires theists and wishes he was raised as one.
For some reason. Maybe it's just because I find Catholic girls cute.
Why is it that every time I come to GD there's a "down with religion new world order" thread?

Why do we even have this anymore? They're not even guidelines now, more on the order of mild suggestions.
If someone can't give evidence for something it should be treated as though it is false.
yes in a practical sense, therefore we should ignore the question of whether or not there is a god, not inherently claim it is false. Is there a god? Who knows. But as people we should not concern ourselves with the question.
To continuously argue that there is no god goes against this, it is counter-productive, it merely allows this trivial question to still be debated rather than letting humanity move on to solving practical problems.

If you think about it, the main reason religion has been a problem is because of opposition, if there was no opposition (no arguing), then there wouldn't have been the crusades and shit.

I was raised as one, it was nothing special really, although ironically I knew the most about Catholicism in Sunday school. :v:

Exactly, I wouldn't be surprised if sometime in the future some extremist atheist groups are formed and a physical conflict is caused.
That way we'd still be in the stone age.
Uhhhh... no we wouldn't.
All scientific theories have evidence to back them up, and those theories allow us to accurately test the world around us and make predictions accurately, then proceed to alter the world through them.
