Parents forcing their beliefs on to their children at a young age, where the children think everything they're told is true is brainwashing.
I forced my child to read, I'm a brainwasher. What ever people teach their children is their business really. Yes forcing it I think is wrong. Teaching it is another story, you can teach a child about religion without brainwashing them. Once they are of mindset they can make their own decision.
I was brought up christian, I wasn't told about any other religions, I wasn't told it was a religion, I just thought it was in general how life worked. That's the kind of brainwashing I mean.
I personally hate all religions with a passion. Religion has no place in our /modern/ world. Sure, it helped a while back, but we have science now, laws and rules for society. Religion now does more harm than good. Molesting children, brainwashing children at a young age, the WBC, the list goes on. Especially people who deny evolution, which I might add, is backed up by loads of evidence, while creationism, however, is not.
I don't think you should flaunt being Christian. It just makes you look like an idiot saying that you believe in something that can't be proven and has numerous scientific holes and logical holes. The bible says Pi is 3, which is wrong. Noah's Ark is a load of bull, how did it not wipe out some plant life that some herbivores only eat? How is your God perfect if the definition for perfect requires your God not to have any dependencies, such as worship? Science crushes your bible and your religion holds back society. Which is why Facepunch hates your religion.
Religion has so much culture behind it that getting ride of it would destroy a majority of the culture still in this world. You need to realize that religion actually IS important, and that just because you don't understand it doesn't make it bullshit. I am not saying you are stupid for not understanding it, after all how can you if you don't have a religion.
Religion gives people a place to go to for guidance spiritually. For comfort, and a peace of mind. If it helps you out then think of it as a hobby or activity.
Also what does molesting children and brainwashing have to do with any religion? That happens without religion just as much.
Evolution seems solid, and so does the big bang, but I am not so sure I buy the part where we all developed from a ball of energy (or whatever). Life is way to complex to have a simple answer. I believe in evolution, BUT I think there is a creator behind it.
And lastly, how can you flaunt a religion? Brag your a Christian? You think that because someone is proud of there religion that they are flaunting it? I have no idea why you think the bible says Pi is 3? Also you ask how Noahs ark didn't wipe out herbivores? Well flooding doesn't kill plant life completely. God does not depend on worship, but he receives it because people love him. How does religion hold back society? Cigarettes, alcohol, war, traffic, internet forums hold back society. I don't believe religion holds back anything. TRUE religion that is. Not to be mistaken with idiots who muck up society by claiming to be for a certain group.
Like I stated before. You don't understand.
I need gaybows now. NOW!
Gaybows, coming right up!
Will that be all?
I don't really care for religion, so you aren't special.
Righto weighing in here. First off I do recognise that religion was integral for the foundation of much culture, and the Bible itself is a valid part of our history. I also recognise that religion can be used for a force for good. But I believe this can only occur on the small scale, once you have religion on a large scale things tend to go awry.
Other than that Religous people, both Muslims, Christians ect. need to recognise the flaws in their respective beliefs and modify it accordingly. Science is ever changing whereas religion is stagnant and follows principles that may have been more relevant thousands of years ago.
Other than that I hate their stance on Gay marriage.
I hate their stance on abortion and sexuality.
I believe the world would be better without religion.
And another thing those religous people who say Aethiests are immoral are completely retarded. In my mind in a modern society can we not have the base of our values to be based on principles that are mutually agreed on Humanist principles and not Biblical principles.
Christianity and Islam are also very violent religions. This doesn't mean I think that all aspects of it are, but a very large percentage is. You only have to look at the Old Testmanent and specifically at Leviticus(???). And Christians can not use the argument of the New Testament as the new moral code to follow, or as an example of how God changed from being genocidist chauvanist. Because the Old Testament is a valid religous text considered as Holy scripture, God is supposedly All Powerful and there should be no reason to suddenly change his whole stance. Finally if Hitler had changed and ran a puppy shelter, we would still charge him for genocide!
Overall while this sounds douchy, Aethiests are more enlightened than Christians, I find most Aethiests to be more socially progressive, believe in greater freedom and human rights and are more likely to progress Modern Society.
Sounds really douchy but I want to this to be near the top of the next page, it feels overall more informed than most other comments.
I totally agree with you, but then i think all this would yield would be a kind of modern day philosophy, similar to Secular Humanism, maybe with a bit of Agnosticism built in.
True. Ideologically, there are belief systems that do this already. But I'm talking about ending the way organized religions operate, which is the nearly impossible part.
I think religion should be re-defined as a personal set of beliefs and moral standings. Take out the word god, then it can apply to everyone and everyone can be their own. If they choose to follow a larger group like those of Christianity or the like so be it.
I hate all religions equally.
Everyone is gay to some extent.
I'm not sexually attracted to men therefore I'm not gay.
I am not saying you are stupid for not understanding it, after all how can you if you don't have a religion.
Why are you implying that to understand religion, you need to be religious?
Life is way to complex to have a simple answer.
I think you need to read up on the Big Bang Theory. Saying life was created by someone is multitudes simpler than the complexity of chemical reactions, quantum physics, and evolution.
And lastly, how can you flaunt a religion? Brag your a Christian? You think that because someone is proud of there religion that they are flaunting it?
If you're running around with Jesus shirts and constantly trying to convert people, you're flaunting your religion.
I don't really disagree with you much, but I'm pointing out some things that just make no sense.
People who try to shove religion down others' throats irk me.
I'll really only talk about my religion if someone asks and is actually interested. If not, I won't bring it up usually.
Gaybows, coming right up!

Dick butt.
I'm not sexually attracted to men therefore I'm not gay.
Do you like males in your porn? You know... a guy with a nice big cock going into that luscious little red heads cunt?
Yep, thought so.
Parents forcing their beliefs on to their children at a young age, where the children think everything they're told is true is brainwashing.
Don't forget ethics. And manners like saying "thank you" or "please." And school. Holy shit, the government has the ability to take your kids away if they don't go to school and read the books that the DOE wants like "The Hungry Caterpillar" or "McGraw Hill's US History." And culture, while you are at it. Forcefeading children to eat broccoli, american pie, making them play baseball(American propaganda, of course), making them wear clothing, teaching them the proper way to fold clothes, fix cars...
I could go on. You're forced to do a lot of things when you are a kid. But no matter what, when you grow up, you have the choice of leaving. Its called apostasy. It is very common in adulthood. Just like conversion. Grow up.
I totally agree with you, but then i think all this would yield would be a kind of modern day philosophy, similar to Secular Humanism, maybe with a bit of Agnosticism built in.
True. Ideologically, there are belief systems already out there that are like this. What I'm proposing would be a reestablishing of the main organized religions and their basic tenets. That's the nearly impossible part.
I love religious jokes.

No, I don't.
But no matter what, when you grow up, you have the choice of leaving. Its called apostasy. It is very common in adulthood. Just like conversion. Grow up.
Except in some countries apostasy has the death penalty.
No, I don't.
Well then that settles it.
But I'll find some gay in you! Even if thats the last thing I do! :fist:
In my eyes, Christianity (and religions in general) are not bad. The bible is full of bullshit symbolistic stories because it was written for the simple people of the creators' era. Actually the only books that are worth following are the gospels, which provide the most useful informations to a good christian.
But you know what IS bad? The christians' community. A whole bunch of manipulative sheep, ready to burn a house if they were told an atheist lives inside. Not to mention the leader of all this, the big B16.
That's partially why I'm an atheist, apart from not really believing in god.

If you found gay in him, it would be pretty obvious :smug:

Of course not everyone is like that, but the idiot type is rather a majority.

No, the idiot type is a very small minority that just gets more media attention than the rest.
Still generalizing.

If you're running around with Jesus shirts and constantly trying to convert people, you're flaunting your religion.
Here is what I think. Wearing a jesus shirt is not flaunting anything. It would be like wearing a nike shirt or a coca-cola shirt. YOu aren't flaunting ford or coke are you? No, you are showing you support for those companies. Why can't we show that we follow a religion?
Trying to convert people is not flaunting, it is sharing a religion. If you don't want to hear it then simply tell them your not interested. Or tell them your beliefs. Flaunting means showing off, and neither of the things you mentioned is really showing off. How can you show off a religion?
Except when those Mormons come to your door and INSIST that you listen to them.
That's just annoying as fuck.
