Haha yeah, don't get me wrong, I love the idea! I was just imagining the problems that could cause down the line.
There's gonna be a lot of different aliens with their own languages--I'm definitely not going to try and develop them all to this degree, but I'll definitely keep the pheremones thing in mind :)
Haha all good!
Is this for a sourcemod?
It's going to get used in this webcomic I'm doing: http://www.dullahan-comic.com/
It probably would have been used in Galactopticon if that was still a thing--there may be future projects in the same setting that could end up using it.

Awesome dude! Lookin good
Actually, I wonder if you guys have any thoughts on this, something I've been debating myself.
When aliens speak alien languages, would it be better to have the speech bubbles use the Romanized characters (like I have written under the script) or the script itself? Obviously using the script makes them seem more alien, but using our alphabet gives the reader a better sense of what it actually sounds like (for whatever that's worth). It'd also be possible to use Romanized lettering in the speech bubbles and then use the script for signs and stuff in the scenery, so you get both.
What u think

Perhaps you could create an alien looking font for the Romanized letters?

really badly translated romanized in a nigh-on illegible font
Is the reader going to have to translate the symbols or romanised phonetic text into English?
I guess if you're playing with setting up the vocalisation so that the pronunciation alone carries some tone and meaning based on the qualities that the word illustrates then roman text could work well. Remember that Tolkein's Mordor language sounds harsh and nasty, his Elvish language sounds nice and pure; if you had words like 'gore' actually sound rough and nasty in pure vocalisation then roman lettering could be good.
Perhaps you can look at the speech bubbles as a sort of HUD; it's part of the lens that we look through to view the comic. It's like the 'narrator' putting his hand in and giving the ability to 'listen' to the scene - the bubbles are obviously not a part of the world itself. I'd have the physical signs and text in the environment written as they would be if the world was real. The content of the speech bubbles though should be more of a user-experience consideration
[editline]11th April 2013[/editline]
but yeah the shape of the letters in the speech bubbles could also display some of the inherent meaning of the word
Is the reader going to have to translate the symbols or romanised phonetic text into English?
Definitely not, I'm going to have it so that the meaning is either obvious through context or the reader just doesn't need to know what they're saying, but theoretically someone could translate it if they wanted.
Cause the pheremones would degrade over time, making it harder (or impossible) to understand if you dig it up a thousand years later :v
Also yes! There's some now

They don't really have lips, so they can't pronounce labial sounds like P and M (or O). I imagine the ones that are raised speaking English or other languages are able to simulate those sounds (since parrots are able to) but I figured their native language would avoid them.
Looks very Moebius inspired.
The drawing looks very flat though. I remember seeing some of your other drawings and they were a lot better. Like that one fighting/ shooting scene i can't remember exactly.
At the start of each new thread should we do a highlights-of-the-previous-thread type thing like they do in the What Are You Working On programming thread?
I think it'd be neat to show a bunch of significant achievements (like Menter's recent impressive value studies). I dunno who would compile such a list (I'd probably accidentally forget some people), but I think it's an interesting idea
I'm sure that would lead to some disgruntled artists :v:
Sounds fine though
And TH I think you should leave it as your alien script, the syllable translation is a bit weak/generic in my opinion
have them do an interpretive dance to express themselves instead
Twenty panels of that every time they want to say good morning
It will be motivation to to try and get into the next thread's OP :v: Certainly beats "Continue." if anyone can be bothered to do it
and dont forget the most important piece of all...

i accidentally hid a few layers.
but honestly, If were gonna do the top 10 thing in every thread, I would at least like to see other things that are not just digital painting. I want more variety in this thread, its always 90% digital painting
I'm working on a huge project which will be done hopefully May 10th for my AP Studio Art portfolio. Gotta do 9 more paintings (just finished a big 30"x30" one in oil and acrylic). It's weird how I just decided to do this all of a sudden and I completely changed my painting style and I think it's one of the best paintings I've done. It'll take forever to dry so I might try to take a picture to post it tomorrow.

Yeah, it's actually just a colored version of something I doodled in my notebook while I was listening to a lecture, so it's not very well-composed at all haha. I had to crop it because everything below that point was blatantly messed up

worked on it for a bit more, fixed some values and started on characters

I was bored. Can't be arsed to finish it up. She looks too precious the way she is right now
A Shared Journey
There once was a journey shared by two distant souls,
a fox and some kind of horned rabbit, it is often retold.
It's brought up at gatherings, at all sorts of times
when a new circumstance brings about memory's melodic chimes.
Fiery passion took them when this journey began
with both moving forwards and together
with little care for any master plan.
As time wandered on, the fox began to wither
troubled by college and the realization that he had no thought
of what he wanted to be other than this bunny's fox
He was a good student - he knew that
but when handling life-related problems he soon fell flat
He feared his rabbit's growing distance, aware of time's
ever persisting march. He wore out every ounce of patience
trying to find some magic spark. Something to make him normal,
and get him through the day - something that would let him handle life's pain
and enable him to play.
His bunny honestly didn't approve, and thought his herbal magic stank
But he allowed the indulgence, and the fox felt he'd found the cure.
In reality he'd found comfort, and to this he did quickly take.
Time continued to move forwards, as it is wont to doing
And though this fox felt placated, in reality his world was shifting.
He'd grown distant from his lover, and closer to the toke.
Rushing away from everything scary, so he could go and smoke.
One memory that comes up, that sings the most
Is an absurd little lark; a walk back from the park
Where the bunny offered to carry this sore and tired fox
Fear flitted though his mind, of a stranger's contrived reaction
to seeing love.

Leshy groves as anybody knows
is where the washling wind goes
Where lushered grofthes did overtoke
and liners chafe the marsho-nothe
And flurfels monsh did we elosh
wherever the washling wind goes
and nobody knows where the crabid mines go
beneath the leshy groves
but the washling wind knows; it knows
where the crabid mines go
