is this a modern take on Ryu-Gi's infamous elf-rape saga??
So I talked to a lecturer and managed to start to get out of my slump! Work in progress composition practice, rendering not final etc Edit: had to convert from Greyscale to RGB because for some reason it was appearing way too dark when viewed outside of Photoshop. Proper values: The colour issue is weird. I reckoned it was a colour profile issue, but I tried out a bunch of greyscale profiles as well as turning off Photoshop's colour profile embedding but it would always come out too dark when viewed in a browser/viewer. It would be perfectly toned when the exported JPG was viewed in Photoshop though. Strange!
May have just been a simultaneous contrasts issue? I.E the lights pop far better when viewed on PS's dark grey backdrop as opposed to the white of a browser which drowns them out and makes the darks look darker than they should.
i know you guys are probably busy and stuff but i was just wondering if anybody with more experience than i could draw the face from the same reference image that i used so that i can see how someone who is actually an experienced artist would do it? it would be much appreciated! https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1439792/Face.jpg [editline]3:33[/editline] and by draw i mean just a quick sketch, that's what i did but i have 0 experience and also i was using a regular #2 mechanical pencil and computer paper and stuff, i think if i had something a little softer that it would've come out better looking and nicer i really like the way charcoal looks, i want to learn to use that

Odd. [t]http://i.imgur.com/ykTTqax.jpg[/t] - http://i.imgur.com/c4L4AuU.jpg The unrendered areas on the left and the bottom are what the whole thing looked like initially, before I started putting any values in
that does help actually so does that mean my drawing still has hope of looking good if i add more values i just don't know how to do that and get so much contrast like you did
This is the Salticid light-weight exoskeleton armored suit. It is mainly worn by assault squads, the strengthened legs allow for fast mobility as well as for jumping several meters up into the air to catch the foe off guard or as a mean to escape. Both hands are free and mobile and can use multiple types of hand-carried weapons, an extra set of lower arms are incorporated into the design to allow grappling and climbing when jumping as well as formidable close-quarter-combat weapons. The head is armed with a small pair of lasers capable of penetrating thick armor plating and melt flesh. In this design I tried to incorporate a spider-ish design, mainly inspired by the jumping spiders and Metal Gear Solid. I wanted to create something that could resemble a finished piece of concept-art that came from a game studio. Been working on this for like +10 hours, I hope you like it. :)
Interesting! The overall design doesn't seem bulky enough to imply any significant improvement in physical strength - far too skinny, I think. But the double lower arms is fascinating. Are there handles of some sort for the 'real' lower arms to hold onto as the mechanical ones do the pulling? The feet don't really convey a good sense of agility - stumpfeet always (to me at least) imply a significant amount of unsteadiness of posture. Your rendering is sweet as well! I can't wait to see it with the highlights of those plate edges/gaps filled in
i'll paint in some traffic later but for now its done.
is this a modern take on Ryu-Gi's infamous elf-rape saga??
maybe she'll wear bullet proof underwear as combat armor too [editline]4th July 2013[/editline]
Same font? But anyways, that looks really messy. [editline]3rd July 2013[/editline] *Fire cracker
it is i want to change it but i don't know what font's to use ):
that does help actually so does that mean my drawing still has hope of looking good if i add more values i just don't know how to do that and get so much contrast like you did
I'd ditch that drawing and do another one (you can pretty much apply this to the first 50-100 or more drawings you do when starting out actually, don't be precious, it'll slow down your improvement a lot) Keep your sketch very light, it's only the base on which to render. No line you do in your initial stage of drawing should be heavier than a light grey (only use a mid grey if you're certain that area will be dark, never use a dark grey right off). This advice is for more considered pieces though, not quick studies. You're making marks back and forth at the moment, you should only be making them in one direction (ideally your stroke should go from the shadow into the lighter area of whatever plane/surface you're shading, since the taper on the end of each stroke will help the gradation as opposed to making it too abrupt-looking). Practice layers of light hatching, if the style I used is what you want. Your grip should be lighter than it is currently as well. I wrote a huge pencil grip tutorial post like a year ago, but I can't fookin' find it now :/
Any crits on my above painting? I'm keen for it to get ripped to shreds so that I can improve it

I'm gonna fix this one later and have it scanned. OTT, it's mostly done

You get a more consistent mark with them, but they'll never be quite as sharp as you can make a pencil; that's if you're obsessively sharpening for the best hatching result, though. You should be fine, the only thing is I don't know what hardness the graphite is in that? It may deprive you of getting darker values without pushing hard, which isn't ideal since it can score/burnish/cause buckling in the paper. A 2B is what you want for the most part, it's the most flexible consistency. [editline]4th July 2013[/editline] Also, finished that typeface

Or turn it into a futuristic racetrack.. looks amazing man, very clean!

They look kinda random, unnecessary, and can interfere with comfortable shooting imo. But otherwise it's really cool.

I dont this deserves a thread, so I'll post this here: I need a painting for work. Someone stole some of our art out of our airlock, and my boss told me to find something on ebay. Fuck that I'd rather commission somebody. I'll pay for shipping since this is the internet and nobody is local, and I can pay commission. It's an italian pasta/pizza restaurant, so the general theme has to be italian, but it can be anywhere from a cheeky bloke with a huge mustache to something really classy like a landscape. I'd rather have somebody on facepunch make us something (that every person coming into the restaurant will see) than buy something off ebay.
Did this for fun a while ago, not sure whether I'll finish it or not: [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/179603395/ganon%20piggy.png[/t]
