I dont this deserves a thread, so I'll post this here: I need a painting for work. Someone stole some of our art out of our airlock, and my boss told me to find something on ebay. Fuck that I'd rather commission somebody. I'll pay for shipping since this is the internet and nobody is local, and I can pay commission. It's an italian pasta/pizza restaurant, so the general theme has to be italian, but it can be anywhere from a cheeky bloke with a huge mustache to something really classy like a landscape. I'd rather have somebody on facepunch make us something (that every person coming into the restaurant will see) than buy something off ebay.
I've got nothing to contribute, but sorry that happened. Wish you luck getting something

I could do it in acrylic or something, but it would be done two times faster and look two times better if I did it digitally. Do it digitally, that would be a lot easier. I'll have it printed somewhere, frame it myself. I tried to get a picture of our building from our facebook, but the only one on there isnt very telling: [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/mkM2tU3.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/0qf7XF0.png[/img_thumb]
Ok so I made this character as a Megaman Battle Network OC back in Junior High, and I suddenly had an itch to draw him as he was back then. (except more detailed and not so crudely drawn) These last two are what he looks like now though, after many revisions over the years. And you're dumb for posting somebody else's work
I dont this deserves a thread, so I'll post this here: I need a painting for work. Don't have an online portfolio, but I can dig up a landscape I've done.. I think I have a shot at an couple of internships! Exciting. I was real hesitant before because I didn't want to sacrifice my mid term break and go out into that scary real world, but now that things are actually in motion I'm excited! One of them is at Yukfoo who do some really great videos - that short film in that vimeo link is brilliant.
cant remember the last time I pulled an all nighter without realising, time to sleep.

I'm in the midst of playing Cave Story right now. I'm not even half-way through the game and I felt the need to sprite the protagonists. Also, my tablet broke about half a year ago. Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't mind using my mouse for spirte-work, but obviously I can't really draw or sketch with it.

Art is about life, your pictures look cold and dead, efficient, soulless. Even the thumbnail in this one looks and feels way better.
so you're judging me on something I haven't finished yet, and you want me to dump my style based on an an incomplete image really...
The thing is, I think J. F. Christ is kind of wrong here. I personally love Gunsmith's efficient workflow, but I feel his texturing and lighting is too simple. If he were to get into real texturing and makes use of lighting more. For example expand with his brush use, experiment more with hard lighting instead of soft lighting. Imo, I think you should continue with your current style, but you should improve what's wrong with it, instead of ditching it what J.F. Said. I think it would make his pieces blow everyone's minds.
so you're judging me on something I haven't finished yet, and you want me to dump my style based on an an incomplete image really...
It won't get any more alive, no matter how lines or objects you add. 2d art is about emotional 'woah'. Lines, style, colors, imperfections, intentionally making object of the picture more contrasting and sharp and 'background' underdetailed and less contrast, even if it's sitting right besides your object. Using line and color and their properties to define the mood of the piece. Yours have nothing of that. It's about an emotion you get from looking at the picture. You have skills, and your works are technically good and take a lot of time, good for architecture concepts, but it's boring as art. It has nothing to give. The only emotion it gives out is "It's a futuristic city. And a car. And some people over there. [img_thumb]http://fc07.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2012/226/a/6/the_curiosity_bar_by_dimarinski-d5b1nv1.png[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/8xDPLPY.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2012/345/c/5/end_of_the_sea_by_xiaoxinart-d5nq1eb.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/QHOJWSz.jpg[/img_thumb] I'm not saying it has to be stylized. It doesn't have to be some fantasy huge castles with flying planets and fantastic creatures. You can draw a boring old house that you walk past every day in a way that it will take breaths away. You don't have to take a lot of time making the piece either. A picture painted with what I said in mind, in two hours, will always have a bigger effect on the viewer than a perfect but lifeless render of anything done in 200 hours.
hey the futuristic clean dead feel thing is a style too k

He should ditch his style of drawing everything monotonically and add some life with varying strokes and colors and lines. Even though the images you posted are unfair in comparrison they make a good example to make a point. A good piece of art in my opinion much like these images, spark curiosity by giving the impression that there is something much more to the image than can actually be seen, something much bigger outside of the borders of the painting aswell as something much more complex within the image, something that gives it life. Who is the artist of those images btw?
Who is the artist of those images btw?
You can find them here along with the artist names: http://www.reddit.com/r/ImaginaryLandscapes/
Even though the images you posted are unfair in comparrison
I wish I could find more fitting ones, but what I wanted to put his attention is not on the quality or details or time spent, but the 'unity' and individual mood of each image. Spirals, sense of organic growth and age, a lot of mystery. More powerfull, ancient growth. Notice how the bird gestures have something similar with the giant growing roots in general form. This has more square and 'solid' feeling to it. Notice how the clouds are suddenly more square to help reinforce that. Obvious futuristic sharp corners and extreme architecture, but the people support it too - they're sharp around the corners. If not the awesome saturated lightning to reinforce the 'sharpness' of the picture it would be boring. Also notice how undetailed the humans and every other structure besides the main one is. He goes so far even to detail the bright side of the far building but not the dark side, even covering it with a cloud to draw your eyes towards light. Does it bother you? No, it makes the picture a lot better. (My personal interpretations of these may differ from yours, but you get the point - there's something to interpret, and that's what matters.)
To be honest it may help if he changed motive
Eck does anybody have any experience turning a value painting into a coloured image and making it look actually good?
Eck does anybody have any experience turning a value painting into a coloured image and making it look actually good?
Yepp. Play around with the layer options, in the way that you make a new layer and set its layer mode to something and then color. Soft light is really good.
