I bloody-fucking love the way you're doing the plants on the right side.
Thanks, I'd say that thats my faverite part so far :) [editline]15th April 2013[/editline]
That's really your first painting? That's mind-blowing, man,
Thanks :D nice confidence boost. I also love the jerk (its a joke chill) who disagreed :L
I suggest you work on the entire thing and then do detail. You'll get a better sense of the environment as well as making it all seem more structured.
Oh really? where? Informing that there's different hatching styles without giving any unneeded instructions (You have to be a 'deviantart appreciation station' featured artist to not realize where to use/not use different techniques after one or two failed attempts) is better than outright saying "Don't do this style because it doesn't fit in this particular example you've drawn today" I'm logging off of this discussion.
Probably for the best you don't seem to be listening anyway
Yes. Game's still fun to me, though. I guess what I'm wondering, though, is uh... Based on that, do you see potential?
Yeah, sure. It looks like a really crappy lvl 1 encounter pokemon to me :v: It's hard to gauge where you're at from that tiny stylised piece alone though. Have you done any life drawing or anything?
So how was your visit to Silent Hill?
I met Lovecraft while I was there he was a basket case
I know nothing of typography. How can this be improved? [t]http://filesmelt.com/dl/pb.png[/t]
learn typography
learn typography
I hadn't thought of that.
leo tolstoy study [editline]14th April 2013[/editline] still working on that monster beard
still working on that monster beard
and a fine beard it is.

so i decided i would write a little story so this would be one of the first illustrations for it obviously a work in progress
Neo-biblical?
Yeah, sure. It looks like a really crappy lvl 1 encounter pokemon to me :v: It's hard to gauge where you're at from that tiny stylised piece alone though. Have you done any life drawing or anything?
Yeah, but that was all for a class I was taking last summer when I was first starting out. So all my life drawing shit is, well, shit. I'm probably going to take the class again this summer, though.

But you should maybe try practicing painting with only 100% opacity brushes, because it's coming out very muddy. Also, don't forget warm highlights and cool shadows or vice versa. Your shadows are looking kind of gray.
-snip- http://filesmelt.com/dl/stillshit.png slightly better than the horrible thing I posted earlier, but still. I shouldn't post.
[t]http://filesmelt.com/dl/DSCN0337.JPG[/t] look, i'm improving. The trees are really odd compared to the rather nice mountains though.
Hah those are some giant trees At this point honestly drawing out of your head is a waste of time, draw from observation. Look at other artists who work in pencil and how they make their marks and so on. This might bum you out a bit but right now you're making pretty much every mistake you could. However, with some direction you'll improve at a very rapid pace from where you are now, so don't get disheartened. I could give you a whole list of stuff to work on but it would be too much crap to remember at the moment, the first thing you want to get down is drawing the shapes and proportions of objects in front of you accurately. Key words for you to research for step one are measuring, sighting, construction (all followed by "drawing" will get you better results probably). Start by drawing things which are cylinders, cubes, cones, pyramids etc. Focus on reproducing proportion from life, when you're getting somewhere with that you can start playing with ways to make the actual rendering work, even at very simple levels.
Yeah, but that was all for a class I was taking last summer when I was first starting out. So all my life drawing shit is, well, shit. Thanks for the advice, I'll work on my things. [editline]15th April 2013[/editline] [t]http://filesmelt.com/dl/DSCN0340.JPG[/t] More reasonable :v:
@Rapist Holy fuck it took me ~6 minutes to load all of those images. If you can, please resize them.
And I was thinking why my browser lags when I scroll through his image. [editline]15th April 2013[/editline] It looks so small and innocent though...
that might explain my random excursion onto Potato.Netâ„¢
Neo-biblical?
Good guess. A scrappy backwater colony on a desert planet sends an airship crew to the decrepit capital city, in order to send a message to earth regarding the sudden lack of automated supply ships. I keep my flow at 100% as well. I can't look right now, but is there a way to increase the threshold so I get stronger strokes?
A scrappy backwater colony on a desert planet sends an airship crew to the decrepit capital city, in order to send a message to earth regarding the sudden lack of automated supply ships.
Shit man, that is a fucking GREAT story kick-off. 9/10 [editline]16th April 2013[/editline] And here's another birthday gift I did today [editline]16th April 2013[/editline] (More or less no ref)
Roger dodger
Mot tablets also have driver software that will allow you to tweak the default sensitivity of your brush, thus I'd make it more sensitive so you end up defaulting to stronger brushwork.
And here's another birthday gift I did today
Totally love the colours!

That's got a really grim lovecraftian feel to it. If I saw that as part of a game I would buy the shit out of it.
So I went to SVA over the weekend and I loved the Junior thesis. These are just a few paintings from 5 different thesis
[t]http://i.imgur.com/DKEFN0I.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/10014h7.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/ubjmtpn.jpg[/t]
A dude getting his face melted by a UFO! I'm really happy with how this turned out :v: Also I'm super excited as I've ordered a 1:1 skull which I'm going to study the hell out of when it arrives.
My copy of 'Drawing the Figure' by Loomis arrived last night I accidentally tore the dust-jacket but that's ok - dust jackets are shit anyway Under the dust jacket it's got this hot canvas binding with the title inlaid across the spine Holy shit old-school-lookin books rocks my socks
