Just started art school at SVA this past week and I managed to change into like the best painting class in the school (with this guy). Here's the first quick shitty drawing assignment i half assed last night i hate contour lines
Congrats Lil
I had a serious crack at changing the eye, but I was having problems since I couldn't rub it out with out leaving heavy visible indents ): I had to settle with livening the eyes up with some glint which I think actually helped. Was the eye that noticeably bad? :S [img_thumb]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/8557473/img028.jpg[/img_thumb] Unfortunately my scanner is now messing with values on all my scans ): this actually has a good value range irl...promise!

the progress of my buildings are really slow because my motivation was gone. so i made a thid for my portfolio. I hope you don't notice the missing leg.

It kinda gives her a playful look, which is good. A minor critic would be the width of the head, but just from one photo I'm not sure of this, it's also not the most important thing in this type of piece.
Here's my self-portrait so far [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7346219/Arts/scraps/selfportraitwip.jpg[/t] the big problem with it so far is that the belly is just a huge boring expanse and it's right smack in the middle. Drawing it is such effort though.
Hello, I recently started trying to draw as I have a college course that may require it soon, so I started right from the basics by just tracing an image etc. I was wondering if you guys could tell me how I could improve my drawing ability, or will this just come naturally? This was obviously a joke drawing but I do have troubles shading properly, could you guys inform me of a decent tutorial or anything that could help me improve? [img_thumb]http://i.cubeupload.com/hG3DnU.png[/img_thumb]
When I was learning how to shade I used to make fake black and white stencils. The great thing about them is that they're fairly straight forward to make but you mostly concentrate on the shadows (i.e. shading). I'd suggest you find some photos (probably with high contrast lighting) to convert into ink/digital stencils. Also, I'd hate to flog my own thread, but I've had people post a lot of interesting work in a critique section: http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1271904 I imagine some of them are just starting out too, so the design choices that they make can be pretty insightful.

Try just doing some simple sketches on paper before you worry to much about rendering, your rendering will never look right till you can draw the shapes right anyway, but in basics you need to use more than two tones and look more at what you referencing, not making stuff up it will help much much more.

Could you suggest a free one to me?
Congrats Lil
thanks babe Here's a small update. No real concept yet on characters or backgrounds or story or anything
Incoming GIFs ahead :v: Some new progress on our game: A new obstacle and some new animations and gameplay elements working in game like rolling and jumping. (rolling animation still WIP though) Pet skill in-action, each pet has it's own skill, this one is a skill that hits all enemies in the area with low-mid damage in a combo. Since the pet is a giant mushroom we went with a poison theme. No UI yet, but there's a cooldown system to avoid skill spamming. [t]http://i.imgur.com/gBUv1YA.png[/t] Random screenshot showing the player with the shield powerup on, some item drops and treasure chest (lots of coins in a single item that monsters drop) We also changed the FOV because we had a really weird one.

Hey guys, what type of monitors do you like to work with for digital art? Is there a general preference for size or the type of monitor? I hear IPS LCD's are preferred over others... I ask because I'm going monitor shopping soon and I'd like to get something good I can use my tablet with Edit: I'm currently on a 19" and I personally think it's too small for digital painting or editing
19" should be fine to paint on?

We'll try to improve on it.

Monitor doesn't really matter that much as long as you calibrate the color profiles.
Lilyo: Please don't save as jpeg. Not a suuper fan of the colours, reminds me a bit of cave story.
